According to Crisil, Indian railway will create a business opportunity of 6.7 lakh crore in five years of span. There are high expectations from Union Budget in which allocation of funds might be announced to help in faster execution of projects.

In its Crisil says that government’s move to reinvigorate railways will create unprecedented business opportunities by 2020. The report went onto say that these business opportunities could be the largest in world except China where capital expenditure will rise more than 2.5 times compared to last five years.

"We expect the upcoming Union Budget to earmark Rs 1.3 - 1.4 trillion spending for next fiscal."

Crisil Research senior director Prasad Koparkar said that secured debt of Rs. 1.5 trillion from LIC and a loan of Rs 523 billion from World Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency have already been tied up. This will help in faster execution of projects like electrification and track-doubling thereby offering good returns.

Crisil also estimates that a business opportunity of Rs 2.4 lakh crores will open up as high impact projects like decongestion will be completed on priority.
