Passenger Amenities Committee of Indian Railways has given nod to print railway tickets in local language from January 1, 2018 onwards. Tickets will be printed in languages other than Hindi and English. Language campaigners are seeing it as a victory of sorts. One of the campaigner said that across the country travellers had their problems with their railway tickets as they do not know whether they have the right ticket or not because many do not know how to read English or Hindi. Also there were some cases such travellers paid the penalty without any fault from their side. Dual language policy has been going on for a very long time but now with software is getting more rigorous with time; a third language option is a must require amenity. The software will be updated by the end of the year, and this would be applicable for all classes of journeys, and would be for passenger tickets bought manually at counters -- and not those booked online. |
