Indore: A proposal for developing another railway station at MR-10 is in the offing for residents of a large area around the proposed site. Plans are also afoot to develop Rau and Mhow railway stations. During a meeting with DRM Lokesh Narayan, local BJP Lok Sabha member Sumitra Mahajan discussed various issues for infrastructural development of Indore railway station on Friday afternoon. The DRM said that work of gauge conversion is going at a fast pace. After completion of work, rail traffic will increase manifold on Indore Dahod and Indore Mhow Khandwa routes as this will benefit passengers seeking direct connectivity for New Delhi and Bombay. Indore will have some more trains as the timing of travel will reduce considerably after gauge conversion, he said. "Since there is a limited space for development of city railway station, the railway should opt for development of Rau and Mhow railway stations which have a larger space and scope of development of platforms and other amenities" Mahajan opined. After the gauge conversion, rail traffic and number of trains are going to increase, so there should be enough platforms for halting of trains, she suggested. If Rau and Mhow railway stations are developed additional trains could be stationed there. A multifunctional complex is being constructed at railway station for housing all the offices and facilities including 2 or 3 waiting halls under one roof and railway will also develop a food zone at platform no 1. |
