There was no good news for railway commuters even on the second day of the nationwide strike with five major auto-rickshaws and taxi unions joining the strike and remaining off the roads on Thursday also. A large number of railway passengers were stranded at the New Delhi, Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations. With Delhi Metro being the only available means of transport, there were large crowds at the New Delhi metro stations.Even though a section of passengers arriving at the station at the end of their journey had made arrangements, a large number of them had a harrowing time getting transport. As their only relief was Delhi Metro and DTC buses, there were long queues of porters carrying luggage to the Delhi Metro station and nearby bus stops.Passengers also complained about porters overcharging them.“We had no idea that the strike would really affect us in such a big way. After giving the porter more than double the fixed rate, I am here in the queue for the token. The place where I stay is not really connected by metro but its 15 minutes walk from the nearby station,” said one passenger. | ||
