Employees of the railway workshop here affiliated to the South Western Railway Mazdoor Union staged a dharna on Wednesday seeking better working conditions and filling vacancies.Nearly 400 employees of the workshop participated in the dharna outside the chief workshop manager’s office at Ashokapuram.The protesters demanded that technician I and technician II grades be merged. They asked that Group C staff at the apex level be made Group B and demanded that outsourcing of railway works be stopped.T.D. Anil Kumar, secretary of the union, said in a release here that even though the All-India Railwaymen’s Federation and the Railway Board arrived at agreements, orders pertaining to their demands had not been issued.The union members also urged the authorities to fill vacancies and called for scrapping the new pension scheme.The dharna was led by general secretary of the union A.M.
