BARNALA: Opposing the foreign direct investment in retail, 17 farmer and labour organizations have decided to block rail traffic for three hours on October 5. The mass organizations are leaving no stone unturned to make the rail blockade a grand success. The farm organizations have printed 1.25 lakh paper bills to be pasted or distribute among member organizations and meeting are being conducted to earnestly prepare for the protest.Farm organization BKU Ugrahan general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri said "apart from allowing FDI in retail, the farm organizations are dead against increasing price of diesel, capping the supply of LPG cylinders and the levying of taxes by Punjab government". He said the activists of 17 organizations will disrupt the rail traffic across Punjab from 1PM to 4PM on October 5.BKU Ugrahan president Joginder Singh Ugrahan said voice will also be raised for compensating the Punjab farmers for dry spell which the state faced in previous months. He said not only the congress led UPA government has tried to push farmers and labourers to bankruptcy but SAD-BJP led Punjab too is toeing the same line by levying taxes and increasing the rates of electricity. He said by allowing FDI will prove doom for small farmers, labourers and Punjab farmers will go to any extent to oppose it. |
