PUNE: The Pune-Daund railway electrification project is set to be completed by September, 2014.So far, more than 50 per cent of the project has been completed."Electrification of this rail route will boost travel from Lonavla to Daund, making it more convenient for passengers," stated Railway officials. The electrification project began in January and is set to cost a total of Rs 167 crore. Officials stated that work from Daund and Pune side began simultaneously.“For electrification, a foundation for the poles is necessary. Building this foundation takes a lot of time,” stated railway officials. The railway officials added that around 70 per cent of this work is complete. After the foundation is laid, the poles need to be erected, which will then be connected by power transformers.“After this work is completed, the local running from Lonavla to Pune will be able to travel up to Daund,” stated the officials. The local which comes to Pune from Lonavla can travel ahead on diesel, but this costs more. After the electrification work on Pune-Daund route is complete, it will benefit the regular movement of trains from Pune, making it more cost efficient. | ||
