Expressing concerns on large number of commuter’s deaths due to falling of sub urban trains Public Accounts Committee is batting for automatic doors in coaches like Metro. In its latest report PAC has asked authorities to redesign coaches and install automatic doors. Quoting number of deaths due to falling off train PAC said that it shocked that 6000 innocent passengers lose their lives every year. This number is apart from the number in thousands more passengers are maimed every year due to unwanted incidents and accidents. The committee has also suggested the number of coaches to be 15 on each train in all the suburban sections. The committee also asked authorities to construct foot over bridges and boundary walls to curtail trespassing. The committee observed the decline in number of passengers in suburban trains, mounting operational losses, high number of ticketless travellers and inadequate provision of ticket booking facilities at many suburban stations. |
