New Timings for Booking Tatkal Tickets from Today I.E. 10th July 2012
The Ministry of Railways has further streamlined the delivery of tickets under Tatkal Scheme and the new amendment in the scheme will come into effect from today i.e. 10th July 2012 (Tuesday). Under the new amendment the booking of Tatkal tickets will start at 10.00 hours on the previous day of journey from train originating station instead of 0800 hours at present. For example, if a train is to depart from the originating station on the 2nd of the month, the Tatkal quota booking both through Internet (IRCTC Website) and reservation counters for that particular train shall open at 1000 hours on the 1st of the month. In addition, it has also been decided that no authorised agents, including agents of IRCTC and RTSAs/RTAs will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets from 1000 hours to 1200 hours from counters as well as from Internet.

At the Zonal Railway and the Divisional Railway level, the local Railway administration is also making arrangements at the reservation counters for orderly implementation of the amendment in the scheme like segregation of Tatkal buyers through separate queues, separate counters etc. as per the local requirement and feasibility. The travelling public is being informed about the new arrangements through Press Releases, Press Advertisements, Announcements and Notice Boards. Moreover, installation of CCTVs in all major booking centres to monitor any unusual activities, inspection of the reservation centres by the senior officers, display of helpline numbers for complaints, raids by the vigilance squads are some of the measures being taken to prevent misuse of Tatkal facility. The requirement of indicating Mobile number of the passenger in the application form is also being insisted to cross verify the genuineness of the passenger.

These new measures are in addition to the previously taken measures to revamp Tatkal system from November 2011. In November 2011, the following measures were introduced to reduce/minimize the possibility of booking of tickets by touts/miscreants and which are still continuing:

1. Advance Reservation Period of Tatkal scheme was reduced from two days excluding the day of journey to one day excluding the day of journey.
2. Refunds are not granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets except in case of special circumstances like late running of train by more than three hours, cancellation of trains etc.
3. Duplicate Tatkal tickets are not issued under normal circumstances. In exceptional cases Duplicate Tatkal tickets can be issued on payment of full fare including Tatkal charges.
4. Tatkal tickets are issued only on production of self attested photocopy of one of the 9 prescribed proofs of Identity mentioned in the scheme, at the computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter. While booking e-ticket, the passenger has to indicate the number of identity card in the system. The passenger is required to carry the same proof of Identity during the journey.
5. A restriction of booking of a maximum of four passengers per PNR on Tatkal ticket has been imposed.

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a Public Sector Undertaking of Ministry of Railways which manages Railways e-ticketing website namely www.irctc.co.in has also implemented following additional steps to streamline Tatkal ticket bookings:

1. High capacity Database servers have been installed.
2. Internet Bandwidth has been increased from 344 mbps to 450 mbps
3. Single user registration on one e-mail ID with email verification has been implemented.
4. Mobile validation of users and single user registration on one mobile number has been implemented.
5. Web service agents have been permitted to book only one Tatkal ticket per train per day on internet after 12.00 A.M.
6. Individual users are permitted to book only two tickets between 10.00 A.M. to 12.00 A.M.
7. Only two tickets can be booked per IP address between 10-12 AM. IP address check has helped in preventing multiple bookings from same office complex/internet café etc. This also helps in facilitating bookings by genuine users and prevents bookings for commercial gains.
8. Single session per user ID check has been implemented. With this step, a user on irctc.co.in will be able to open his account for booking of e-tickets only once. Multiple sessions with single user ID cannot be opened thereby enabling maximum users to access website and reduce congestion.
9. Captcha has been put and strengthened for booking in the ‘Plan My Travel’ to check fraudulent booking through automation software.
(CAPTCHAs is a technology used in attempts to prevent automated software from performing actions which degrade the quality of service of a given system)
10. Quick Book Option and Cash Cards option has been stopped between 10.00 A.M. to 12.00 A.M.
11. An IT-Anti Fraud Squad has been created at Internet Ticketing Centre to detect cases of fraud and fraudulent activity and also for constant cyberspace surveillance to detect possible threats to the system.
12. Upon receipt of complaint against the sub-agent, the user –id is deactivated and the sub-agent is black-listed. The details of the black-listed agent are put on the IRCTC website. All the Principal Agents have been instructed not to take on such black-listed agents.

14. The Ministry of Railways has also initiated steps to augment e-ticket handling capacity of its website through short term and long term measures. Both IRCTC and CRIS are working jointly in this direction. Due to these steps, the present e-ticket capacity will increase from existing about 3.5 lakh bookings to around 5 lakh bookings per day in about four months period in the short term which will further be increased to about 8 lakh bookings per day in the long term plan.

नगर संवाददाता, भागलपुर : तत्काल टिकट की नई व्यवस्था मंगलवार से लागू हो गई। मालदा मंडल के सहायक वाणिज्य प्रबंधक (एसीएम) शंभू आचार्या की निगरानी में आरक्षण टिकट केंद्र के सभी काउंटरों से सुबह दस बजे से टिकट निर्गत किया गया।

काउंटर सुबह आठ बजे ही खुल गई। टिकट के लिए लंबी लाइन लगी थी। पंक्ति में तत्काल और सामान्य आरक्षण दोनों तरह के टिकट लेने वाले शामिल थे। दस बजते ही आधा घंटे यानि साढ़े दस बजे तक आरक्षण टिकट निर्गत पर रोक लगा दी गई। इस दौरान नंबरिंग के आधार पर सिर्फ तत्काल टिकट काटे गए। 30 मिनट का समय पूरा होते ही पुन: सामान्य आरक्षण टिकट काटने की प्रक्रिया शुरू हुई। एसीएम ने बताया कि परिचय पत्र की फोटो स्टेट कापी के आधार पर तत्काल टिकट निर्गत किया गया। दावा किया कि पहले दिन नई व्यवस्था में टिकट लेने वालों को परेशानियों का सामना नहीं करना पड़ा। भागलपुर से कितनी संख्या में तत्काल निर्गत हुई के संबंध में जानकारी नहीं मिली। ----------

बदलते रहे नियम

तत्काल टिकट के नियम भी बदलते रहे हैं। रेलवे दस-बारह वर्ष पूर्व इस सिस्टम को लागू किया था। शुरूआती दौर में लंबी दूरी वाली महत्वपूर्ण ट्रेनों में ही इसकी व्यवस्था थी। इस व्यवस्था में टीटीई मनमानी करने करने लगे। अवैध कमाई बढ़ गई। धांधली को रोकने की दिशा में पूर्व रेलमंत्री लालू प्रसाद ने इसे सिस्टम से जोड़ दिया। सिस्टम में पांच दिन एडवांस तक टिकट निर्गत करने का नियम लागू किया गया। इस नियम को कुछ महीनों बाद समाप्त कर दिया गया। इसके बाद सिस्टम में दो दिन पूर्व की व्यवस्था लागू की गई। फिर इसमें परिवर्तन किया गया। ट्रेन परिचालन से 48 घंटे की जगह 24 घंटे पूर्व टिकट का प्रावधान किया गया है।

A time when Vallakadavu 'boattupura' was the hub of trade and commerce, Parvathy Puthanar was the National Highway and the railway station was located at Chackai... | Mukesh Venu On Jul 11, 2012 The Trivandrum (Thampanoor) railway station was inaugurated by Rani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi on November 4, 1931. But the first train had arrived at Trivandrum way before that, in 1918, during the reign of Moolam Tirunal Rama Varma Maharaja. The railway station was located at Chackai. This railway line was built as an extension of the Quilon-Shenkottai stretch and brought the first train to Trivandrum.   Colonel Goda Varma Raja then decided to have an aerodrome for Trivandrum and the land at Chackai was chosen for it. The railway line was re-laid through Pettah to Thampanoor. The present Central Railway Station was opened in the year 1931 and the aerodrome was established in 1932. Old timers living in the area say that remains of the station wall and the well – the railway well at the station premise used to be the largest well in the region - were to be seen till a few years ago. But everything was lost to the airport’s expansion project as land was taken up to build the aircraft maintenance hangar.       Thampanoor station was opened as a secondary station to Trivandrum Pettah, as the Pettah station held the primary importance in those days. The reason being that the main centre of commercial activity was in and around Pettah, with its proximity to Parvathy Puthanar and the Vallakadavu Boat House.   Parvathy Puthanar is an artificially created river-canal that provided the vital link to the capital city connecting it with the commercial waterways up north. This water channel was the lifeline to the city, equivalent to the present day National Highway. The water used to be clean in those days and several bathing spots were built along the stretch of the canal.   Parvathy Puthanar now stands still as a carpet of water hyacinth, with its waters black as death.       When the sewage system of Trivandrum was set up in 1938, Parvathy Puthanar was utilised to take the waste water to the sea. The waste water generated in those times was 16 MLD (Million Litres per Day). At present it stands at around 160 MLD, with Muttathara sewage plant is still months away from purring into operation. Raw sewage  and more recently any waste are dumped into the Parvathy Puthanar by calloused citizens.     The last thing we heard about the cleaning up of the canal was the Rs.500 crore project announced by Water Resources Minister P J Joseph in March this year. The stretch is included in the National Waterway project, but still, the fate of the river-canal which had once sustained the capital through its commerce, remains infested with weed, burdened with waste and destined to lie in oblivion, even as the city that it helped grow, continues with its rapid growth.          

  The procedural formalities for the re-laying of the track from Chackai to Thampanoor and the construction of Parvathy Puthanar wasn't complicated as it could have been today, simply because in those days it was still monarchy and not democracy; the king's decision was always the final one. But those days of kings' rule are long gone, a fact which gets exemplified by the abandoned and in-ruins Vallakadavu Boat House   Vallakadavu Boat House is one of the oldest surviving historical signatures of Trivandrum. The 'boattupura' was built in the early 19th century and the area was the hub of trade and commercial activities. The 'boattupura' had barges which were specifically meant for the use of royal families and high class scholars and priests who came to the city. It used to be a symbol of pride for the royal family of erstwhile Travancore.     The centuries’ old original building was mostly pulled down under a TRIDA project and the boat house was renovated with the aim of it to be developed to a place of tourist attraction. The work started in 2002, and after several lags, was finished in 2006. The renovated boat house still stands there, half buried in waste and clad in moss and weed, with no one permitted to enter the building as per the instruction given to the security by the City Corporation!       While many pictures have been permanently lost to the past, some still exist alongside the present. Parvathy Puthanar and Vallakadavu Boat House played pivotal roles in the past are now allowed to rot in peace by the same capital city Parvathy Puthanar could never substitute the high speed transportation that is needed by the busy population nor could Vallakadavu Boathouse contain the huge container barges of today; But forgetting the past means forgetting about the future, and which is the last thing that Trivandrum needs in midst of all the controversies and confusions reigning with almos

MANGALORE: Palakkad division of the Southern Railway has revised the timings of train no. 56661 Charvattur-Mangalore passenger train with effect from Friday. The train will henceforth leave Charvattur at 6.50am and reach here at 8.45am instead of 9.05am as per timings mentioned in the revised timetable that came into effect on July 1.

The decision of the railway authorities had evoked strong resentment among the student community, and the Students' Federation of India had taken the lead to stage a protest against it in front of Mangalore Central Railway Station early last week. They had pointed that the new timings was inconvenient to students and office goers.

As per the revised timings, the train will depart Nileshwar at 6.58am, Kanhangad at 7.09am, Bekal Fort at 7.18am; Kottikula at 7.24am; Kalanad at 7.33am; Kasargod at 7.39am; Kumble at 7.50am; Uppala at 7.58am; Manjeshwar at 8.06am; Ullal at 8.15am; Thokkottu at 8.21 am and reach Mangalore Central at 8.45am.

Train extended

Train no. 22609/22610 Mangalore Central-Palakkad intercity express will be extended to Coimbatore from Friday. Train no. 22609 Mangalore Central -Coimbatore intercity express will reach Palakkad at 5.40pm and will leave at 5.45pm and reach Coimbatore at 7.05pm. Train no. 22610 Coimbatore-Mangalore Central intercity express will leave Coimbatore at 6.20am and reach Palakkad at 7.20am. The train will leave Palakkad at 7.25am. There is no stoppage for this train between Palakkad and Coimbatore.

चक्रधरपुर : चक्रधरपुर-बड़बिल इंटरसिटी ट्रेन की समय सारणी जारी कर दी गई है। 15 जुलाई से आरंभ होने वाली चक्रधरपुर से यह ट्रेन रोजाना सुबह 5.15 मिनट पर खुलेगी। चाईबासा 6 बजे, डांगवापोसी 6.53 बजे तथा बड़बिल 7.50 बजे पहुंचेगी। शाम में यह ट्रेन बड़बिल में पांच बजे, डांगवापोसी में 5.53 बजे, चाईबासा 6.50 बजे तथा चक्रधरपुर 7.45 बजे पहुंचेगी।
