केन्‍द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने आज कोच्चि मेट्रो रेल परियोजना के प्रस्‍ताव को मंजूरी दे दी। कोच्चि मेट्रो रेल से वहां सार्वजनिक परिवहन प्रणाली में सुधार होगा। परियोजना पर 5181.79 करोड़ रूपये की लागत आएगी और इसकी कुल लम्‍बाई 25.612 किलोमीटर होगी जिसमें 23 स्‍टेशन शामिल होंगे। इसकी पटरियों को सतह से ऊंचा उठाकर खंभों पर बिछाया जाएगा और यह अलवाये से पेट्टा तक जाएगी। परियोजना की कुल लागत में भारत सरकार का हिस्‍सा 1002.23 करोड़ रूपये और केरल सरकार का हिस्‍सा 1772.23 करोड़ रूपये होगा। बाहरी कर्ज 2,170 करोड़ रूपये के होंगे और बढ़ी हुई लागत सहित 237.33 करोड़ रूपये के राज्‍य कर केरल सरकार वहन करेगी। परियोजना के लिए कार्य शुरू होने के चार वर्ष के भीतर इसे पूरा कर दिया जाएगा।

Madurai: Southern Railway on Wednesday announced cancellation and regulation of passenger train services to Dindigul from July 17 to 20 to facilitate non-interlocking work at the junction as a part of gauge conversion work on the Dindigul-Pollachi sector.Consequently, the Madurai-Dindigul passenger would stand cancelled for three days from Jul 17, Dindigul-Tiruchirapalli passenger for the same number of days from July 18 and Tiruchirappalli-Dindigul passenger service for three days from July 17 and Dindigul?Madurai passenger for three days from Jul 18, a railways press release said.All other express/passenger trains running via Dindigul junction would be regulated at Dindigul junction for five to 30 minutes from Jul 17, it said.

Thiruvananthapuram: The conversion of the tri-weekly Kochuveli-Bangalore Express to a daily train now depends solely on the pressure exerted by the peoples’ representatives from the state. Highly-placed sources in the Southern Railway (SR) said that a decision in this matter might take months since no discussion in this regard is going on at the headquarters in Chennai at the moment.
    A senior official from the SR operating department in Chennai told TOI that for the time being, train no 16315/16316 Kochuveli-Bangalore-Kochuveli express would continue to be a tri-weekly one with the same timings.
    “SR has completed all formalities related to running the train as a daily service. However, following protests by passengers from Kerala and Bangalore regarding the change in timings, the decision was withdrawn. The change in timing was inevitable since it would be very difficult to operate the train considering the already congested lines. Now both the railway zones require time to analyze the situation and arrange other services without causing problems for the train in question. However, no discussion is underway at the moment and a decision might take three to four months,” the official said. Meanwhile, passenger associations are planning to continue their protests till the objective is met.
    “We are studying the matter. Steps will be taken to ensure that people face no difficulties due to change in timings,” said state minister in charge or railways Aryadan Mohammed.

CHANDIGARH: The northern railways have introduced a new passenger train from Rohtak to Panipat, extended the Jind-Sirsa passenger train to Hisar, and Delhi-Jind train to Narwana.

Besides, a number of other mail and express trains have also been extended, which would benefit a number of towns in Haryana.


The daily Rohtak-Panipat passenger train will leave Rohtak at 11:15 am and reach Panipat at 2 pm. It would start return journey from Panipat at 2:30 pm and reach Rohtak at 4.40 pm.

This would benefit communters and others in the three districts of Rohtak, Sonipat and Panipat, said railway officials.

The Jind-Sirsa passenger train has been extended up to Hisar. It would leave Jind at 4.25 pm and reach Sirsa at 10.45 pm; depart from Hisar after five-minute halt at Sirsa to reach Hisar at 12:25 am.

The train would depart from Hisar at 4:20 am and reach Sirsa at 6.10 am.

It would leave Sirsa at 6:20 am and reach Jind at 2.50 pm.

The would benefit the people of Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa.

Delhi-Jind passenger express has been extended from Jind to

Narwana. The train would reach Jind at 9.45 pm and touch Narwana at 10.45 pm.

The train would start from Narwana at 11.15 p.m to reach Jind at 12.05 am.

The extension of the train up to Narwana would provide people another link train to Delhi and vice-versa.

Similarly, Kathgodam-Delhi-Ranikhet express has been extended up to Jodhpur and it would benefit the people of Gurgaon, Pataudi Road and Rewari, said railway officials.
