The double-decker chair-car train will consist of nine coaches, including seven AC double-decker chair-cars, with 128 seats in each coach. The carrying capacity of the train is thus 65-70 per cent more than a normal train
The wait for Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Ahmedabad fully air-conditioned double-decker train is finally over. The one-of-its kind train arrived in Ahmedabad from Kapurthala coach factory on Friday for a trial run.



The concept has been developed by Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala In its 2011 budget, railway ministry had promised that the double-decker train service would begin by December-end. However, it could not happen due to unavailability of AC double decker coaches and other technical glitches reported by Mumbai railway division.

Rakesh Behal, Divisional Railway Manager, Ahmedabad, said, “We received the fully air-conditioned double-decker train on Friday. Soon, we shall conduct a trial run of the train under the supervision of experts to check for safety and technical aspects before it is pressed into service.”

Features of the train

The double-decker chair-car train will consist of nine coaches, including seven AC double-decker chair-cars, with 128 seats in each coach.

With 65-70 per cent increase in the carrying capacity, the overall height of double-decker coaches has been increased marginally (four-and-a-half inches) keeping in view the constraints such as overhead structures, bridges, electric traction equipment and platforms.

Created by Research Development and Standard Organisation and developed by Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, the train will use end-on-generation configuration where power for train lighting and air-conditioning is supplied by two power cars.

The new AC design has features such as stainless steel body, high-speed Eurofima design bogies with air springs and many other safety-related measures. The coaches are fitted with control discharge toilet system.

Ministry of Railways have decided to increase the frequency of 12268/12267 Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Duranto Express from Tri-weekly to daily w.e.f. 26th April,2012 ex. Ahmedabad and w.e.f.27th April,2012ex Mumbai Central.



Train No. 12267 Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Duranto Express departs from Mumbai Central at 23.25 hrs to arrive Ahmedabad at 06.00 hrs. Similarly, Train No.12268 Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Duranto Express leaves Ahmedabad at 23.45 hrs to reach Mumbai Central at 06.15 hrs, the next day.

Moreover many long distance trains has been instructed to stop on unusual stops to facilitate the supporters journey.Kanthapuram Aboobakkar Musliyar claims that he has in his possession the hair of Prophet, for which he is building a 40 crore worth Mosque museum at an unknown location. While scholars says that they want to test his claim by burning the hair, if it is original it will not burn, but Kanthapuram is not willing to go for test claiming that it is not necessary.

Ludhiana : A proposal has been sent by the divisional headquarters of the northern railway at Ferozepur to the zonal headquarters and the railway ministry to convert Duronto Express (running between Amritsar and Chandigarh) into an inter-city express train with commercial halts at Jalandhar and Ludhiana. From the day one, when it was launched with much fanfare on August 24, 2011, the lone Duronto train announced for Punjab has been facing low occupancy. The railway authorities were under immense pressure to give stoppages to the train at Jalandhar and Ludhiana to make it commercially viable. But Duronto trains are supposed to run non-stop from the originating station to the terminating point, barring a stopover for technical or operational reasons.Senior railway officials said in view of the low occupancy and poor utilisation, an air-conditioned chair car and four chair car coaches of the train were withdrawn from December 21, 2011. “As the Duronto train had failed to draw the travelling public with the average occupancy ranging between 25 and 60 per cent, or at times even less, a formal proposal has been sent by the divisional headquarters to the northern railway headquarters in Delhi to convert the train into an inter-city express train with commercial stoppages at Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Since it involves a policy decision, it might have to be referred to the railway ministry before any action can be taken,” the officials stated. They were optimistic that the proposal would meet the acceptance of the headquarters because rather than the complete withdrawal of the train due to its commercial failure, it would be better to convert it into an inter-city express train and keep it running in a new avatar in the larger interest of the public.

Providing connectivity with Delhi Metro railway's Dwarka Line, the Delhi Airport Metro Express has launched shared cab services between Shivaji Stadium and Rajiv Chowk stations.This service is likely to provide hassle-free interchange between Reliance Metro and DMRC for commuters.A Reliance Infra spokesperson said Reliance Metro has tied up with Iris cabs to provide this service and commuters can also travel to inner circle of Connaught Place, Barakhamba Road and Pragati Maidan with a fare starting from Rs.10.
