The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has booked a total of 239 cases and levied fines from the offenders this calendar year (ie. from January 1 till July 17) for offences committed on board trains and at railway stations in Tirupur district.Official sources said that as many as 30 persons were penalized for unauthorized transfer of tickets while a tout had been caught for selling reserved tickets in an ‘organised manner’ on a regular basis.On pulling chains in trains without valid reasons, the officials said fines at the rate of Rs. 500 a person were levied from a total of 10 travellers.“Many of them have pulled the chain because their co-passengers alight en route for getting snacks on the platform and are not able to board again on time. Some others pulled the chain in inebriated condition,” officials added.In case of people causing nuisance on board the train and on platforms, fines were levied from 72 persons this year, according to official sources here.Nineteen people were fined for smoking and spitting on railway platforms or on board trains.Penalty was collected from 97 people who were either found begging or for selling edible items without valid permits, on board the train and at platforms in Tirupur and a few nearby railway stations between January 1 and July 17 this year, sources said. |
