The Chambre de Commerce, Puducherry, has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to revive the Special Economic Zone in Puducherry, which has been dormant for some time, a release from the Chambre de Commerce said.It has also requested an early commissioning of the Puducherry Port by the Ministry of Shipping and Transport, opening of the Puducherry airport by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, laying of a new railway line to Chennai from Cuddalore, introducing long distance train services to Ahmedabad, Rajasthan and Mumbai and also a train to Kanyakumari, the release said. The Chambre also requested Dr. Singh to defer the implementation of the Food Safety Standard Act in Puducherry as it would adversely affect small manufacturers and traders of food products, the release said.
