A recent meeting here discussed setting up of a railway station at Parvathipuram. Kanyakumari District Railway Users’ Association organised the meet, presided over by J. Helen Davidson, MP. The need for a new railway station at Parvathipuram and for moving the goods shed from Nagercoil junction to Nagercoil town were stressed. The issues of transferring Tirunelveli-Nagercoil-Kanyakumari and Nagercoil-Thiruvanathapuram sections to Madurai division, improving the terminal facilities at Nagercoil by providing additional stabling lines and platforms, creating a new railway terminal at Kanyakumari were discussed. The meet also stressed for a new train service between Thiruvananthapuram and Velankanni via Nagercoil, extension of one of the three Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram evening trains to Nagercoil, extension of the Tiruchi-Tirunelveli intercity to Nagercoil and to operate MEMU trains in the Kanyakumari-Kollam and Nagercoil from Thiruvananthapuram sections. |
