The Madras High Court has directed a person belonging to Ayandur in Villupuram district to send a representation to the Southern Railway General Manager to upgrade the village railway station to a Block Station instead of downgrading it from a Clerk-in-Charge station to a contractor run halt-in station. If such a request was made, the authorities should consider it and do the needful in accordance with law.The First Bench comprising the Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam passed the order while disposing of a writ petition by one P.K. Narayanan of Ayandur and the panchayat vice-president, Subitha Rajamani. The petitioners said if a contractor was appointed all existing facilities at Ayandur railway station would be withdrawn.
