In India Railways is the largest public transport and caters to millions of people everyday. There are several factors associated to make a journey comfortable, it's not just about clean coaches but the quality of food served on long distance trains too matters.

last week 26 passengers travelling on Tejas Express, the country's first semi high speed train fell ill after they ate meals served on the train. later IRCTC in its preliminary investigation report stated that food served to passengers on train was not the reason of passengers falling ill, rather it was cooked hilsa fish carried on the train by group of passengers triggered the mass vomiting.

the real reason is yet unknown but this incident has once again brought meals served by railways under the scanner not just the quality of food served on trying but also about the hygienist standard maintained by the caterers.

 perception about quality of food and the hygiene maintained by Indian Railways between passengers has become a big area of concern for Railways as most of the people agree that they do not believe that Railway will maintain decent quality or hygiene.

most passengers say that food served by IRCTC is of very poor quality besides quality many passengers spoke about the variety in menu which is not available on trains.

Experts say that Railway authorities do very little to put checks on the quality of food served on long distance trains. there are no external checks  to keep a tab on the quality of food being provided to crores of passengers in the trains by IRCTC or even in stalls.
