After launching UTS mobile app on October 9, 2015 by railway it invited very few takers on its app. Railway felt that there were many reasons behind this like –

• Feeling of vulnerability despite fully safe
• Cash balance can only be recharged through Railway’s own R-wallet or internet banking
• Tickets availability in soft version only

Now railway has tried to overcome such limitations and has added host of features in its app to book tickets on the go. Added features are –

• Option of third party wallet like Paytm and Mobikwik
• Print out of tickets can be made through ATVM machine of originating railway station

According to central railways, there were complains about unavailability of hard copy. In case of theft or batteries drained out passengers were unable to produce ticket when required. Railway is seriously concerned about passengers not adopting smart ways to book tickets instead they prefer wasting time by standing for hours in a long queue.

Currently app is used by a mere 3000 commuters every day. These commuters comprise 2680 single journey tickets including platform tickets and 320 season tickets.

Railway data shows that nearly 60% tickets are for season passes.

Through app facility off purchasing general tickets is also available but somehow it has not attracted much attention between passengers.
