The agency in charge of parking facility at the two Metro stations has introduced a couple of steps to encourage people to use Metro—it is issuing flash cards, using which motorists can avail of 20% discount on parking charges, and is waiving off parking fees for electric and hybrid cars. The initiatives will come into effect from August 1, courtesy Central Parking Services (CPS), in charge of parking at Namma Metro’s stations at SV Road and Baiyappanahalli. N Sathyanarayanan, managing director, CPS, said people who park at Metro stations follow park-and-ride model, and by providing flash cards, the CPS was helping commuters save time and money. He said those having flash cards would not have to waste time in the rigmarole of tendering change and collecting receipt even for a single day. An added advantage is that the commuters can use the card at any other CPS-managed parking facility in the city.Explaining the motive behind waiving off parking fees for electric and hybrid cars, Sathyanarayanan said the CPS wants to encourage the use of eco-friendly vehicles and that is why it has decided to provide free parking to such vehicles at its parking facility at the two Metro stations in the city. |
