Karnataka State Women’s Commission chairperson C. Manjula has urged the State government to come out with stricter laws to curb crime against women.She was speaking after meeting the 19-year-old woman who was pushed out of the train at Maddur on Monday, at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences here on Thursday. She urged the elected representatives to discuss the issue in the ongoing Assembly session.“The authorities should take steps to provide security to women who travel by trains between Mysore and Bangalore. I will discuss the issue with the Government Railway Police,” she said.Demanding that the Department of Women and Child Development provide medical help and counselling to the victim, she said the commission would request the authorities to provide food and shelter to her.Ashwath Narayan, MLC, and Padma Mohan, member, Mandya City Municipal Council, were present. |
