Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will hold a meeting of MPs and MLAs in Thiruvananthapuram on December 11 to clear doubts about the proposed high-speed rail corridor between Thiruvananthapuram and Udupi in Karnataka. This was announced by G. Radhakrishnan Nair, Chief Engineer, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Thiruvananthapuram, during an interaction with presspersons after a seminar ‘High-speed rail corridor in Kerala – dream and reality’ organised by the Association of Engineers Kerala here on Wednesday. The meeting had been called in the wake of protests by the people against the project survey for fear of losing their property, he said.“Already, 50 per cent of the survey has been completed. But it has been temporarily stopped. Of course, we can carry out the survey using modern tools such as GPS without actually conducting the survey on the site. We wanted to submit the detailed project report in December. Now, it is not possible to say when we can,” Mr. Nair, who was entrusted with the task of preparing the report, said.Earlier, it was proposed that the corridor would extend from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangalore. But it was extended to Udupi following a request from the Karnataka government.Travel time between Thiruvanan-thapuram and Kasaragod, a distance of 525 km, would be 142 minutes and to Mangalore 156 minutes. |
