Now railway passengers can transfer their confirmed tickets onto another person’s name however terms and conditions still say that that customers cannot transfer a berth or seat reserved in the name of the respective person. Railway has announced that request for change in name of the ticket holding passengers would be granted only once. Accordingly, government servants would be allowed to transfer their tickets to others. Government servants can do this by submitting a written application. “Where the passenger is a Government Servant, proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of trains,” the railways said. The other exception is that if a passenger would like to transfer the ticket to one of his or her family members provided a hand written request is made 24 hours before the scheduled departure time. The third exception can be made by railways to students who can transfer his or her ticket to another student of the same educational institute provided a hand written application is given 48 hours prior. A fourth exception would be when passengers were traveling on account of a marriage event. “Where the passengers are members of a marriage party and any person deemed to be Head of such party makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any member of the marriage party be transferred to any other person,” the notice said. Lastly the railways would allow change in the name of the ticket holding passengers on account of National Cadet Corps who makes such a request. |
