New Delhi: Massive power failure in North India since late Sunday night has affected at least seven states, including the national capital. According to media reports, a breakdown in the northern grid has led to the power failure.Apart from Delhi, power crisis hit Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, HP, UP and J-K. Latest reports state that the electricity has been restored in Jaipur, Rohtak and Chandigarh.Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said,"I got to know that Northern Grid had failed at 4:30 am."Addressing a press meet, Shinde said that 60 percent grid is up now.Sushil Kumar said that the problem occurred due to excess frequency.Power Minister said the last time north India faced such a power crisis was in 2001.He added that they have drawn 8000 mw from Bhutan.He added that they have set up a three-member committee to study the breakdown.The Director of Power Grid Corporation, IS Jha said that within 1.5hrs most of the grid should be restored.Thousands of commuters in the capital faced a harrowing time Monday morning as services of the Delhi Metro were disrupted due to tripping of power supply. However, officials said 25 percent of the trains on all the lines were put into service from 7 a.m.Reports state that the Delhi Metro services have been full restored.Worsening the situation, even traffic signals in many parts of Delhi are not working, which may lead to traffic snarl during the peak hours.Even train services have been affected. Hundreds of passengers are stranded at the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, New Delhi, as no trains travelling via Agra-Mathura are reaching Delhi due to a technical failure.The list of trains that were affected by the power crisis are Amritsar Delhi Shatabdi, Allahabad Chandigarh Unchahaar, Lucknow Chandigarh Sadbhavna, Howraha Kalka Mail and Delhi Jammu Mail.Almost all Shatabdi, Rajdhani trains delayed by over 4 to 5 hours in North India.The whole of Rajasthan, which is one of the states affected due to power supply failure from the Northern Grid, witnessed a complete black out for almost 4 hours between 1 am to 5 am.Delhi airport issued a statement saying,"DIAL would like to confirm that all flight operations at IGIA are normal with no cancellations and delays."The statement said that the power supply was restored to DG Systems, has been running smoothly for the last 7 hrs, will continue till normal supply is restored. |
