Information about India’s Nobel laureates, the Prize and Alfred Nobel, the institutor of the Nobel Prize, was put up on a special wall at select Delhi Metro railway stations in the city on Saturday. As part of the Nobel Memorial Wall, organised by the Embassy of Sweden and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), information about the prestigious award is being showcased through photographs and information bullets at Rajiv Chowk and Noida City Centre metro stations up to November 2. Information about India’s Nobel laureates -- Rabindranath Tagore, C. V. Raman, Dr. Hargobind Khorana, Mother Teresa, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Amartya Sen and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan -- will be put up on display. “The aim of exhibiting this wall is to spread awareness about all the Nobel laureates from India,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

Indian pride

DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh and Ambassador of Sweden to India Harald Sandberg unveiled the Wall on Saturday.“It is a matter of pride for us to host the Nobel Memorial Wall with the Embassy of Sweden to honour our Nobel laureates. The contributions of our Nobel laureates have given India recognition all over the world. The Nobel Wall on the Delhi Metro is a unique way to honour them. It also gives an opportunity to our youth to know about them while they are on the move,” Mr. Singh said.

Highlighting innovation

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sandberg observed: “For six years now, the Embassy of Sweden and Swedish companies celebrate The Sweden India Memorial Week – where we pay tribute to the contribution of Alfred Nobel and the Indian Nobel laureates, and highlight the importance of innovations. This year the theme is Co-Creating the Future. What better way to begin that than to reach out to the 1.8 million commuters through the innovation in public transport system that has changed the face of New Delhi!”
