Ludhiana : Railway authorities have proposed to close all unmanned level crossings in the district. They have urged the district administration to close four unmanned level crossings- C-8, C-18, C-20 and C-23-and construct diversion roads as these could prove fatal.Talking to The Tribune, the railway authorities said they met the officials of the district administration in this regard yesterday. The administration has constituted committees comprising officials to check whether the proposal forwarded by the Railways was viable or not. If not, then the committee will come up with other suitable alternative.Committee members comprising Gurmit Singh, SDM West (additional charge), Rohit Gupta, Tehsildar (West), and Harbhajan Singh, Divisional Engineer, Railways, Patiala, will see the C and B unmanned level crossings between Alamgir village and Dhandran village.In second such committee, Ajay Sood, SDM (East), Rakesh Kumar, naib-tehsildar, Dehlon (additional charge) and Harbhajan Singh, Divisional Engineer, Railways, Patiala, will check and submit the report of the unmanned crossing numbers C-18 and C-20, which is on Dehlon to Raikot road and from village Gill to Kila-Raipur Railway Station.The third committee comprising Ajay Sood, Rakesh Kumar and Harbhajan Singh will look at unmanned crossing number C-23 from Khera village to Mehtabgarh. “The meeting was held under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner. We have submitted that these unmanned level crossings be closed to avoid fatal accidents, but it depends on the officials of the district administration to see whether our submission is viable or not. They will submit the report to the Deputy Commissioner within 15 days,” an official added. |
