Kolar : Toilet doors in the lone train locked because of lack of water. Happinesss of passengers over new train to Bangalore could not last long, as the lone train has all its toilet doors locked. The passengers, who commute to Bangalore, 70 km from the district centre, were happy that the old train was replaced with new colourful train which departs at 7.15 am and arrives at 8.30 pm.Apart from the local train, the passengers have to depend on the rail bus that links Kolar-Bangarpet.The passengers have been inconvenienced by the “lack of sensitivity” on the part of railway officials who have locked the toilet doors in the train, alleged Rukmangada, president of the railway commuters’ association. The railway station, which is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore for the past two years, has not yet provided the passengers with any facility. The passengers who board the train at 7.15 am here, have to alight at Contonment Station in Bangalore and scurry for auxiliary services such as auto rickshaws or city bus services to reach their workplace. They are angry that the officials have deprived them of toilets by locking its doors. When asked, the officials said there is no water to fill the tankers in the railway station, due to which the toilets could not be opened for public use, But, the passengers are not convinced by the answer. They argued that the officials could have arranged for filling the tankers at Contonment railway station in Bangalore or at Bangarpet station.“The only train to Bangalore is not passenger-friendly and it’s a shame that the voters in the home constituency of the Union Minister of State Railways, K H Muniyappa, has to suffer,” said Rukmangada. They are more worried over the rumours that the railways may divert the lone train service to the Kuppam line. The railway station in the city, however, has become a recreation centre for the residents with its green canopy and tranquility as there are other trains on this rail route between 7.15 am and 8.30 pm. |
