A new railway station was proposed earlier between Thane and Mulund but work on its development got hit a major hurdle as Central Railway and civic body were unable to form a consensus. However, it seems that consensus over the project has been formed. Both the agencies were unable to finalize the location and design for the new station over the years; now it is said that engineers have finalized the location and design. Development will take place on a 340meter stretch within the Thane mental hospital precincts. This project dates back in 2002 when MP Prakash Paranjape proposed this new railway station to ease the strain on Thane station. Then in 2011 Thane civic body also proposed this project as solution to overcome Thane station overcrowding. | ||
