To generate more revenue railway has decided to reduce number of confirm berths that are available to book in sleeper and AC coaches so that it can accommodate more passengers in RAC (Reservation against cancellation) category. It will allow railways to carry more passengers besides increase in earning. According to railways number of RAC berths will be increased by four in sleeper and AC three coaches while in AC two coaches it will be increased by two. As per the ongoing arrangement there were 10 RAC passengers allowed to travel in Sleeper coaches, 4 in AC three coach and four in AC two coach. With increase in number it will now be fourteen in Sleeper, eight in AC three and six in AC two. As per the RAC arrangement two passengers are provided sitting arrangement on one side lower births despite paying full fare. By January 16 the new arrangement will come into play; however this will reduce chances of birth confirmation for RAC and waitlist passengers. The officer said that at the time of preparation of the chart, RAC list is cleared first and then wait-listed tickets are taken up for confirmation. |
