Salem Railway Division is planning to introduce escalators and passenger lifts at Coimbatore Railway Junction, medical assistance booths at Coimbatore and Mettuppalayam, electrification of Coimbatore North – Mettuppalayam section and ticket booking arrangement at PN Pudur Post office.The other facilities on the cards included, facility to book unreserved tickets at nine more stations through Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks, facility to provide tickets through automated ticket vending machines (ATVMs), according to a release from Sujatha Jayaraj, Divisional Railway Manager – Salem.It has also been planned to establish a vehicle scanner at the Coimbatore Railway Junction. Battery operated cars would be introduced for disabled and senior citizens at Coimbatore and Erode stations.She added that Salem Division completed its fifth year. It serves 14 districts with 97 stations covering a distance of 862 km of which 337 have already been electrified. Salem – Karur BG Link via Namakkal is all set to be commissioned shortly.
