An alleged railway ticketing scam has been unearthed by CBI earlier this week. Anti-corruption department of CBI nabbed a former employee of IRCTC for operating an illicit software over the website that allowed agents to book hundreds of tatkal tickets in a singe click.

Ajay Garg was a former software programmer who with his front man developed a software that can manipulate system of tatkal ticket booking. CBI received information about illegal operations to book tatkal tickets of Indian Railways in such illegal manner. Soon after receiving information, a swift enquiry revealed Ajay Garg's name. He was running the entire network involving numerous other persons. 

Railway minister Piyush Goyal further ordered an enquiry into the scam and also told agencies to continue this drive. CBI traced that, agents who paid for the software channeled money in the form of bitcoins or through hawala channels. Apart from the software cost, Garg also charged money per ticket by agents who used his software. 

The CBI has carried out searches at 14 locations in Delhi, Mumbai and Jaunpur during which it recovered Rs 89.42 lakh in cash, gold jewellery valued at Rs 61.29 lakh which include two gold bars of one kilogram each, 15 laptops, 15 hard discs, 52 mobile phones, 24 SIM cards, 10 notebooks, six routers, four dongles and 19 pen drives.
