Justice Samudrala Govindarajulu of the High Court on Tuesday declared that the geographical location at which an offence takes place, even in a running train, would decide the territorial jurisdiction of the related case.

The court was dealing with a criminal petition filed by Pramod Shyamlal and Sanjay Suresh.

The petitioners were accused of attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman while travelling in a train between Kagaznagar and Ramagundam. When the accused were produced before the II Metropolitan Railway Court Judge, the case was sent to the appropriate criminal court in Adilabad.

When the petitioners went to court in Adilabad the court there said it had no jurisdiction and opined that the matter should go to back to the court in Hyderabad. However, Justice Govindarajulu said that the court in Adilabad had the jurisdiction for the case.

Reporter gets bail

In the call data case, Justice Govindarajulu granted conditional anticipatory bail to Yadagiri Reddy, a senior reporter with Saakshi newspaper.

He was named as an accused in a complaint made by Chandrabala. She alleged that by publishing the call data relating to her telephone conversations with the Joint Director of CBI in the newspaper the reporter had violated the provisions of the penal code.
