Derailment of a local train near Kalyan yesterday created chaos among commuters. Five coaches of an Ambernath bound loca from Kurla derailed around 5:30AM in the morning. The derailment affected 150 metres of railway track and stretch of overhead wiring. Central Railway took 11 hours to fix everything back to normal. Motorman Mahipal Singh instantly applied brakes when he felt jerk near Vithalwadi station. As the train was moving slowly therefore no injuries reported to any passenger. Due to derailment train services between Karjat and Kalyan were severely affected and caused as many as 163 local cancellations. The Karjat bound line could be opened only at 04:42PM in the evening. A CR spokesperson said, “As many as 66 special suburban services were run for the benefit of commuters. Shuttle train services were run between Ambarnath and Karjat.” To restore the track as many as 1000 personnel were deployed including engineers and gangman. Long distance trains including Deccan Queen and Pune bound intercity were cancelled which forced passengers to travel by road. Commuters from Ambernath and Badlapur complained about CR services on Thursday, saying delays have become normal. Sometimes it is track fracture, sometime overhead equipment failure while sometime some other kind of problem comes in light causing delays. |
