Northern Railway, Delhi Division has join hands again this year with South Delhi Municipal Corporation to check mosquitoes, however, this time it is too late. Every monsoon this joint initiative is being run for last ten years; this year it seems green signal by Indian Railway took some extra time so much so that monsoon came and went back. It is said that SDMC was not well equipped to start the initiative. In Delhi spread of epidemic diseases is largely related to mosquitoes, therefore, in order to check mosquitoes insecticides are sprayed along railway tracks. The train named as ‘Terminator’ – is equipped with a high-pressure spraying truck fitted with a nozzle that can cover an area of 60 meters, on a low-lying platform. It is to be noted that as much as 2,625 mosquito born cases were reported in Delhi until date, apart from 1378 dengue and 1500 chikunguniya cases. Mosquitoes usually breed in areas where water is accumulated for long time, especially alongside tracks. Spraying of insecticides with help of Terminator train check mosquitoes breeding effectively. |
