At present there are 2.7 million followers of Indian Railways on Twitter. Twitter has become an effective tool for railways to monitor and address passenger’s grievances and acts. As per the released data as many 3000 complaints are handled by railway officials daily through Twitter. According to railway social media platform has become a contact point between Railways and its commuters. Soon after Suresh Prabhu became Railway Minister under Modi government; he set up the department for railways that works exclusively on social media platform. The Ministry’s Twitter handle has logged 3.78 lakh tweets so far. On a daily basis 6500 mentions are done on Indian Railways twitter account out of which 3000 are in form of complaint. To handle such huge amount of complaints a team comprising of 150 staff across 68 divisions of Indian Railways has been dedicated. This team ensures that passenger’s woes are solved within the stipulated time or say within 30 minutes |
