Work on the proposed new road overbridge (ROB) at Viralimalai Road intersection near the Railway Junction in Tiruchi is set to takeoff in the next three to four months as the Highways Department finally called for tenders for the project recently.

The project has been in the planning stage for the past three to four years. The new multilevel ROB will replace the existing narrow bridge that has turned a traffic bottleneck in the city. The State government had sanctioned the ROB at an estimated cost of Rs.74 crore. The ROB would run 1.8 km. The existing bridge, leading from the Aristo Hotel Traffic Island and the Railway Junction, runs across railway lines leading to the Chennai Bypass and the Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway (NH 45-B).

It leads to the Central Bus Stand and the Tiruchi-Dindigul National Highway (NH 45). The narrow bridge has steep gradients and the police in recent years had to install multiple signals to regulate the traffic flow across the bridge.

Notwithstanding the traffic signals and the policemen on duty, chaos prevails on the bridge as vehicles pile up from different directions. To ease the congestion, the Projects Wing of the Highways Department came up with a plan to build a trestle and embankment bridge. The bridge has been designed taking into account the traffic volume at the Aristo Hotel Junction, the Railway Station Junction, and the Madurai highway Junctions. The ROB will have seven arms each with two to three lanes leading towards the Chennai Bypass, Aristo Hotel Junction, Dindigul Highway, Central Bus Stand, Railway junction, Madurai Highway, and a new road to be laid near the MSP camp.

The arms towards Chennai Bypass Road and Aristo Hotel junction would have three lanes each at the higher and lower levels. Service roads would be provided at the ground-level along all important arms.

Last week, the Highways Department had called for tenders for the first stage of the project under which a new three-lane ROB with five arms will be built at a cost of Rs. 44.28 crore adjacent to the existing bridge. “Traffic will continue to the allowed through the existing bridge until the structure was ready. In the next stage, the old bridge will be dismantled and a new bridge with two arms will be built in its place.

Work on the project will begin after the completion of the tendering process in the next three months,” said an officer in the Highways Department. The Railways will build the portion of the ROB across the tracks.

The Highways Department recently completed the demarcation of land to be acquired or alienated by different government agencies for the ROB and the district administration is actively pursuing the acquisition/alienation process.

About 4,600 square metres of private lands are to be acquired for the project apart from alienation/transfer of lands from Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion grounds (about 18,500 square metres), the Railways (about 7,300 square metres), the P&T Quarters (about 350 square metres) and Defence lands (about 2,500 square metres). Since most of the land required is held by government agencies, land acquisition is not expected to pose much of a problem for the project, unlike several other ROB projects that ran into land acquisition delays in the city.

Bangalore / Guwahati / Kolkata:   South Eastern Railway (SER) is to run weekly superfast trains on the Shalimar-Yesvantpur-Shalimar route (Train Nos 02863/02864) during October and November.

Similarly, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has advised South Western Railway (SWR) that it would run weekly trains between Kamakhya-Yesvantpur-Kamakhya stations (Train Nos 02552/02551) during October and November.

Both SER and NFR are to run eight trips and nine trips in each direction respectively.

Accordingly, Train No 02863, the Shalimar-Yesvantpur superfast, will depart Shalimar station at 11.00 hours on Mondays and arrive at Yesvantpur at 16.30 hours, on Tuesdays, on October 7, 14, 21, 28 and in November on 4, 11, 18 and 25.

In the return direction, Train No. 02864, the Yesvantpur-Shalimar superfast, will depart Yesvantpur station at 11.15 hours on Wednesdays and arrive in Shalimar at 16.20 hours on Thursdays on October 9, 16, 23, 30 and in November on 6, 13, 20 and 27.

Enroute the train will stop at Santragachi, Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Brahmapur, Vizianagaram, Duvvada, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada Junction, New Guntur, Ongole, Nellore, Gudur Junction, Renigunta, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Bangarpet, and Krishnarajapuram.

Kamakhya-Yesvantpur

Train No.02552, the Kamakhya-Yesvantpur train, will depart Kamakhya station at 14.00 hours on Wednesdays and arrive at Yesvantpur at 18.30 hours on Fridays on October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and in November on 6, 13, 20 and 2.

In the return direction, Train No. 02551 the Yesvantpur-Kamakhya train will depart Yesvantpur station at 8.30 hours on Saturdays and arrive at Kamakhya at 13.30 hours on Mondays, on October 5, 12, 19, 26 and in November on 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

En route, the train will halt at Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, New Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Kishanganj, Barsoi, Malda Town, Rampurhat, Durgapur, Asansol, Adra, Bankura, Midnapur, Hijli, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Brahmapur, Palasa, Vizianagaram, Duvvada, Samalkot, Vijayawada Junction, New Guntur, Gudur Junction, Chennai Central, and Katpadi.

Bhopal:  Decks have been cleared for the running of a double-decker train between Habibganj and Indore, railway sources said in Bhopal. Commissioner of Railway Safety (Central Circle), Chetan Baksh cleared the proposal for the double-decker train on Tuesday evening, they said. The train is expected to run within a week as all the necessary clearances have been issued. The trial run of the train was conducted on April 13 but the Commissioner of Railway Safety was not satisfied with trial report sent to him by the Bhopal Railway Division of West Central Railway (WCR).

He had asked the railway administration to ensure several safety measures including raising platform shed height at all the stations through which it had to pass, they said. “Now all the hurdles have been cleared for smooth running of the train following which Baksh provided clearance to the running of the double-decker train,” sources said. Baskh suggested to the WCR that the train should run at an optimum speed of 75 Kmph, they said.

പദ്ധതിക്കായി റെയില്‍വെയ്ക്കും സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍ക്കാരിനും തുല്യ ഓഹരിപങ്കാളിത്തമുള്ള സ്‌പെഷല്‍ പര്‍പസ് വെഹിക്കിള്‍ രൂപവത്കരിക്കാനും യോഗത്തില്‍ തീരുമാനമായി. സബര്‍ബന്‍ കോറിഡോര്‍ പദ്ധതിയുടെ രൂപരേഖ തയാറാക്കാന്‍ മുംബൈ റെയില്‍ വികാസ് കോര്‍പറേഷനെ ചുമതലപ്പെടുത്തും. ഡിസംബറിനകം ആദ്യ പദ്ധതിരേഖ സമര്‍പ്പിക്കാന്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെടും. നാളെ ചേരുന്ന മന്ത്രിസഭായോഗം ഈ തീരുമാനത്തിന് അനുമതി നല്‍കും.

തിരുവനന്തപുരം-ചെങ്ങന്നൂര്‍ റൂട്ടിലും, തിരുവനന്തപുരം-ഹരിപ്പാട് റൂട്ടിലുമാണ് സബര്‍ബന്‍ സര്‍വീസ് വിഭാവനം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരു കിലോമീറ്ററിന് ശരാശരി 20 കോടി രൂപ ചിലവ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്ന പദ്ധതിക്ക് ആകെ വേണ്ടിവരുന്നത് 3000 കോടി രൂപയാണ്. ഇതിന് ലോകബാങ്ക് വായ്പ ലഭിക്കുമെന്നുമെന്നും മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ഭൂമി ഏറ്റെടുക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നില്ല എന്നതാണ് സബര്‍ബന്‍ പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അനുകൂലഘടകമെന്നും മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു

मंदारहिल-हंसडीहा के लिए रेल सेवा बुधवार से शुरु हो गया। चार माह पूर्व इस ट्रेन को मंदारहिल से हंसडीहा के लिए शुरू किया गया था। इसे रेल राज्य मंत्री अधीर रंजन चौधरी, सांसद पुतुल कुमारी एवं रेलवे के वरीय अधिकारियों ने हरी झडी दिखाकर चालू किया था। लेकिन मंदारहिल से आगे कमराडोल हाल्ट से पहले सरैया गांव के लोगों ने हॉल्ट बनाये जाने की मांग को लेकर रेल परिचालन बाधित किया था। इससे दो दिन पूर्व हंसडीहा तक रेल सेवा बंद कर दिया गया था। जानकारी के अनुसार रेल परिचालन बाधित होने का कारण रेलकर्मी के साथ दु‌र्व्यवहार बताया गया था। इसकी जांच को लेकर रेलवे ओपेन लाइन के एरिया मैनेजर एसके मुर्मू, रेल टै्रफिक इंस्पेक्टर बीबी तिवारी, आरपीएफ के इंस्पेक्टर निरज कुमार ने सलैया गांव पहुंचकर लोगों को समझाने का काम किया है। इसके बाद परिचालन शुरू कर दिया गया। बता दें कि झारखंड क्षेत्र की व्यस्तम गांव डांढे के नाम से हॉल्ट का शिलान्यास गोड्डा सांसद निशिकांत दूबे ने 14 सितंबर को किया है। बिहार के सुखिया से गोड्डा जिला का डांढ़े गांव डेढ़ किलोमीटर पर है। मंदारहिल से हंसडीहा तक में तीन हॉल्ट स्टेशन हो गया। अभी वहां रेलगाड़ी नहीं रूकेगी। क्योंकि, हाल्ट काउंटर की बहाली होने के बाद ही यहां अप डाउन दोनों गाड़ी रूकेगी।

South Central Railway to Run 104 Special Trains for Dussehra and Diwali

South Central Railway will run 104 special trains for Dussehra and Diwali for the convenience of the passengers.  These will run between Secunderabad-Vijayawada, Secunderabad-Mumbai, Secunderabad-Kolkata and Kachiguda-Mangalore. Hyderabad: South Central Railway decided to run 104 special trains for Dussehra and Diwali festivals.  These trains will run between Secunderabad-Vijayawada, Secunderabad-Gowhati, Secunderabad-Mumbai, Secunderabad-Kolkata, Kachiguda-Mangalore and Tirupati and Aurangabad. This was informed by south central railway CPRO K. Sambasiva Rao.

Aurangabad-Tirupati services via Secunderabad – 18 services

Train number 07405 special trains will start from Aurangabad on 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th October and 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th dates at 6.40 pm and reach Tirupati the next day at 7.00 pm. 07406 number trains will start from Tirupati on 5th, 12th, 189th, 26th of October and 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of November at 9.15 pm and reach Aurangabad the next night at 8.30 pm. These trains will halt at Renigunta, Srikalahasti, Venkatagiri, Guduru, Nellore, Ongole, Chirala, Tenali, Vijayawada, Khammam, Warangal, Kazipet, Secunderabad, Kamareddy, Nizamabad and Basara stations. Secunderabad – Vijayawada 18 special services

Special trains with 07203 numbers will start from Secunderabad on 4th, 11th 18th, 25th October and 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th dates at 11.15 and reach Vijayawada the next day at 5.00 am.  Train number 07204 will start from Vijayawada on 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st October and 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th dates at 11.00 pm and reach Secunderabad the next day at 5.20 am. These will halt at Kazipet, Warangal, Khammam and Madhira Secunderabad – Mumbai superfast AC services (16 services)

Train number 02701 AC superfast special trains will start from 6th, 13th, 20th, 20th and 27th October and 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th dates at 11.45 pm and reach Mumbai LT station the next day evening at 5.05 pm. 02702 AC superfast special trains will star from Mumbai LT on 7th, 14th 21st, 28th October and 4th, 11th, 18th and 25thdates at 8.50 pm and reach Secunderabad the next day at 1.45 pm.  These special services halt at Begumpet, Vikarabad and Tandur stations in Andhra Pradesh.  Hyderabad-Shalimar(Kolkata) 16 special services

Special trains with number 07128 starts from Nampally on 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th October and 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th (Sundays)at 9.50 pm and reach Shalimar on Tuesdays at 3.00 am.  Special trains with number 07127 starts from Shalimar on 8th, 15th, 22nd , 29th October and 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th (Tuesday)at 11.05 am and reach Secunderabad at 3.00 am. These trains halt at Jangaon Kazipet, Warangal, Khammam, Vijayawada, Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Rajahmundry, Samalkot, Anakapalli, Duvvada, and Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram, Srikakulam and Palasa stations. Kachiguda-Mangalore 18 special services

07606 special trains start from Kachiguda on 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th October, 5th, 12th 19th and 26th November at 6.00 am and reach Mangalore Central station at 11.20 am the next day. 07605 special trains start from Mangalore on 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th October and 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th November (Wednesdays) at 8.00 pm and reach Mangalore on Friday at 3.40 am. These trains will stop at Jadcherla, Mahaboobnagar, Gadwal, Kurnool City, Done, Gutti, Cuddapah, Rajampet and Renigunta stations.

Every traveller has experienced chaotic scenes at the reservation counters of railway stations — serpentine queues, jostling for vantage positions, arguments over someone trying to sneak in, distracting counter clerk by asking innumerable queries.

At Ranchi station, you are not going to witness these familiar scenes any more. For, the railway authorities have installed a hi-tech electronic queue management system for passengers seeking reservation/cancellation of tickets.

DRM Gajanan Mallya inaugurated the ATM-like terminal at the reservation centre of Ranchi station on Tuesday. It was pressed into service on Wednesday.

Although it developed a minor snag within four hours, commuters at the station were not complaining. They rather lauded the well-intended efforts of the railways.

“Reservations will hopefully be hassle-free now as we do not have to stand in long queues. Instead, we can relax sitting on the chairs and wait for our respective turns,” said Aneeta Sharma, a Ranchi resident, who was ironically standing in a queue, after the machine conked out.

Those seeking reservation or cancellation need to approach the token dispenser first and has to press the button of the unit that specifies their purpose, namely general, cancellation/modification, tatkal and privileged service. The machine then ejects a numbered paper token.

Once done, they need not stand in queues. Instead, they have to look at the visual display unit for their serial number and the specific counter where they have to go.

One passenger can present only one such slip. “Since a person can present only one token, the system is expected to eliminate touts,” hoped Priya Ranjan, a ticket-seeker.

കേരളത്തില്‍ പുതുതായി ആരംഭിക്കാന്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന സബര്‍ബന്‍ ട്രെയിന്‍ സര്‍വീസിന്റെ പദ്ധതിരേഖ തയാറാക്കുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ചര്‍ച്ചചെയ്യാന്‍ ചേര്‍ന്ന ഉന്നതതല യോഗത്തിന് ശേഷം മാധ്യമപ്രവര്‍ത്തകരോട് സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി.

പദ്ധതിക്കായി റെയില്‍വെയ്ക്കും സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍ക്കാരിനും തുല്യ ഓഹരിപങ്കാളിത്തമുള്ള സ്‌പെഷല്‍ പര്‍പസ് വെഹിക്കിള്‍ രൂപവത്കരിക്കാനും യോഗത്തില്‍ തീരുമാനമായി. സബര്‍ബന്‍ കോറിഡോര്‍ പദ്ധതിയുടെ രൂപരേഖ തയാറാക്കാന്‍ മുംബൈ റെയില്‍ വികാസ് കോര്‍പറേഷനെ ചുമതലപ്പെടുത്തും. ഡിസംബറിനകം ആദ്യ പദ്ധതിരേഖ സമര്‍പ്പിക്കാന്‍ ആവശ്യപ്പെടും. നാളെ ചേരുന്ന മന്ത്രിസഭായോഗം ഈ തീരുമാനത്തിന് അനുമതി നല്‍കും.

തിരുവനന്തപുരം-ചെങ്ങന്നൂര്‍ റൂട്ടിലും, തിരുവനന്തപുരം-ഹരിപ്പാട് റൂട്ടിലുമാണ് സബര്‍ബന്‍ സര്‍വീസ് വിഭാവനം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരു കിലോമീറ്ററിന് ശരാശരി 20 കോടി രൂപ ചിലവ് പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്ന പദ്ധതിക്ക് ആകെ വേണ്ടിവരുന്നത് 3000 കോടി രൂപയാണ്. ഇതിന് ലോകബാങ്ക് വായ്പ ലഭിക്കുമെന്നുമെന്നും മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു. ഭൂമി ഏറ്റെടുക്കേണ്ടി വരുന്നില്ല എന്നതാണ് സബര്‍ബന്‍ പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അനുകൂലഘടകമെന്നും മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു

മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിക്ക് പുറമെ കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രി ശശി തരൂര്‍, മന്ത്രി ആര്യാടന്‍ മുഹമ്മദ്, മുംബൈ റെയില്‍ വികാസ് കോര്‍പറേഷന്‍ എം.ഡി രാകേഷ് സക്‌സേന, ദക്ഷിണറെയില്‍വെ ജനറല്‍ മാനേജര്‍ രാകേഷ് മിശ്ര എന്നിവരും ഉന്നത ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും യോഗത്തില്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു.

ഷൊര്‍ണൂര്‍-കണ്ണൂര്‍ മേഖലയിലെ പാത ഇരട്ടിപ്പിക്കല്‍ ജോലികള്‍ ഒരു മാസത്തിനുള്ളില്‍ പൂര്‍ത്തിയാകുമെന്ന് ദക്ഷിണറെയില്‍വെ ജനറല്‍ മാനേജര്‍ യോഗത്തില്‍ അറിയിച്ചു. കേരളത്തില്‍ റെയില്‍പാത ഇരട്ടിപ്പക്കലിന് ഭൂമി ഏറ്റെടുക്കുന്നതിലാണ് വീഴ്ചയുണ്ടായിട്ടുള്ളതെന്ന് മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി പറഞ്ഞു.
