MUMBAI: The bookings for the special air-conditioned trains from Mumbai to Delhi will open from Monday.

To cater to the rush of passengers during the Divali holidays, the Western Railway will run bi-weekly Rajdhani-type AC superfast special trains from Mumbai Central to New Delhi from October 16 to November 27.

Said a WR spokesperson, "The train no 09005 Mumbai Central-New Delhi bi-weekly Rajdhani type AC train will depart from Mumbai Central at 7.45 pm on every Sunday and Wednesday and reach New Delhi at 5.35 pm the next day.""

Similarly, train no 09006 New Delhi-Mumbai Central bi-weekly AC superfast special train will depart from New Delhi at 11.40 pm on every Monday and Thursday and reach Mumbai Central at 9.15 pm the next day. This train will run from October 17 to November 28, the official said.

The train will halt at Borivali, Surat, Vadodara, Ratlam, Bhavani Mandi, Ramgunj Mandi, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur city, Hindaun City, Bharatpur and Mathura Jn stations on both the directions.

The following special trains will be run to clear the extra rush of passengers.
1)Nagercoil – Chennai Central – Nagercoil Special (via. Madurai, Dindigul, Karur, Salem & Namakkal):T.No.06310 Nagercoil – Chennai Central Special will leave Nagercoil at 17.00 hrs. o­n Sundays from 29.9.2013 to 10.11.2013 and arrive Chennai Central at 07.45 hrs. the next day. T.No.06309 Chennai Central – Nagercoil Special will leave Chennai Central at 11.15 hrs. o­n Mondays from 30.9.2013 to 11.11.2013 and arrive Nagercoil at 03.15 hrs. the next day.  The composition of the trains will be 1 AC 2-tier, 2 AC 3-tier, 12 Sleeper Class,          3 General Second Class and 2 second class cum luggage coaches. The trains will stop at Valliyur, Tirunelveli, Vanchi Maniyachchi, Kovilpatti, Sattur, Virudunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Karur, Mohanur, Namakkal, Rasipuram, Salem, Jolarpettai, Vaniyambadi, Gudiyattam, Katpadi and Arakkonam.  T.No.06310 will stop at Perambur also.
2)Nagercoil – Kacheguda – Nagercoil Special (via. Dindigul, Karur, Namakkal, Salem, Namakkal, Tirupati & Renigunta): T.No.06308 Nagercoil – Kacheguda Special will leave Nagercoil at 08.10 hrs. o­n Tuesdays from 1.10.2013 to 12.11.2013 and arrive Kacheguda at 13.55 hrs. the next day. T.No.06307 Kacheguda – Nagercoil Special will leave Kacheguda at 16.00 hrs. o­n Wednesdays from 2.10.2013 to 13.11.2013 and arrive Nagercoil at 21.15 hrs. the next day. The composition of the trains will be 1 AC 2-tier, 3 AC 3-tier, 8 Sleeper Class, 4 General Second Class and 2 second class cum luggage coaches. The trains will stop at Valliyur, Tirunelveli, Vanchi Maniyachchi, Kovilpatti, Sattur, Virudunagar, Madurai, Kodaikanal Road, Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli, Karur, Namakkal, Rasipuram, Salem, Jolarpettai, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Katpadi, Tirupati, Renigunta, Koduru, Razampetta, Cuddapah, Yerraguntala, Thadipatri, Gooty, Dhone, Kurnool City, Gadwal, Mahbubnagar and Jadcherla.
Advance reservation for the above trains will commence from 22.9.2013.

Union Minister for Railways Mallikarjun Kharge said on Saturday that the new railway projects are getting delayed as the State government is slow in sanctioning funds and acquiring land.

After flagging off the Yeshwantpur-Mangalore-Yeshwantpur16565/16566 Weekly Express, Kharge said that the Union government is quick in implementing the railway projects, but the State government is not able to cope up with the Centre in this regard.

The Centre has taken up 13 new railway projects and some are almost complete. Four more projects will be completed in the next four to five months.

For the new railway project, the State had to release Rs 700 crore, but till now only Rs 50 crore has been released with delay in the acquisition of land to lay the new track.

Mangalore-Kadur railway track laying work has been completed and  it will become functional in another two months. Kottur-Harihar route will start in another three months and Kolar-Chikballapur route has completed trials, he said.

Kharge further said, all the projects which were promised by the Central government have been completed, for women safety, Centre is planning to appoint women constables and inspectors.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundurao, Home Minister K J George and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy were present.

NASHIK: The Maharashtra government has urged the Central Railway (CR) to commence work planned for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela in Nashik.  The Office of the Nashik Divisional Commissioner has sent a letter to the CR, urging it to undertake Kumbh-related works at the earliest. The state has also urged the CR to start a permanent reservation counter at Trimbakeshwar town and begin construction work of platforms 4 and 5 at the Nashik Road Railway station.

With just 19 months left for the Kumbh Mela scheduled in 2015-16, the Maharashtra government has already twice asked the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to commence infrastructure work related to the Kumbh, given that such work will require 18 to 20 months to be completed.

“Follow-ups pertaining to Kumbh work are being done regularly,” divisional revenue commissioner Ravindra Jadhav told on Saturday.

In its last Mumbai meeting, the High Power Committee for Kumbh had in principle approved a Rs.2,297-crore Kumbh plan for all government departments, including Rs 1,031.91 crore for the NMC, Rs.654.21 crore for the PWD, Rs.80.76 crore for the Water Resources Department WRD and Rs.25.75 crore for the Railways. The plan will soon be presented to the apex committee of the state government, chaired by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, for approval.

Kochi: To rehabilitate families staying at the railway quarters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to construct a multi-storey building on railway land.  The purpose is to enable the commencement of metro construction activities at the south station.The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) was striving to resolve the rehabilitation crisis, after an earlier, similar proposal, was shelved. Plans to construct a flat for the families at Karshaka Road on the Eastern Entrance side were put on the backburner, due to the high land acquisition cost.Also, action had to be stalled as one of the conditions of the French Agency Agence Francaise Developement (AFD) for extending loans was non-existence of rehabilitation issues.“KMRL has promised to construct multi-storey buildings on suitable railway land to rehabilitate the remaining 65-odd families from the staff quarters. We’ve identified the land at the northern end of the south station premise itself,” Area Manager P.L. Ashok Kumar said.18 families will be relocated from the staff quarters before Oct 15 so as to hand over a portion of property to KMRL immediately. While the rlys provided the accommodation for 12 families, the KMRL agreed to rehabilitate the rest of them.

A metro station would be set up at the Ernakulam Jn station premise to provide commuters the interchange facility. 

MG Road piling: Road caves in

Kochi: One-way traffic was enforced in the stretch between Madhava Pharmacy Junction near Chennai Silks and Padma Junction for several hours on Saturday after a small portion of road caved in near the piling site.

“It was filled with concrete and the traffic was allowed on both directions No work was affected,” an official said. Meanwhile, works on the North Railway over Bridge is almost done with the installation of the last girder above the railway line .

Allahabad : थोड़ी राहत और थोड़ी जेब की टेंशन को रेलवे एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन ने हरी झंडी दिखा दी है. राहत की खबर यह है कि जल्द ही पैसेंजर ट्रेनों में भी तत्काल कोटा स्टार्ट किया जा रहा है. यानी अब आपको पैसेंजर ट्रेन का भी तत्काल टिकट मिलने लग जाएगा. वहीं टेंशन इस बात की है कि तत्काल कोटा इंट्रोड्यूस करने के बाद काफी सीटें तत्काल कोटा में शिफ्ट हो जाएगी, ऐसे में कंफर्म टिकट के लिए आपको तत्काल का चार्ज भी देना पड़ेगा. रेलवे बोर्ड के ऑफिसर्स ने इस संबध में सभी जोन को सर्कुलर जारी कर दिया है. पैसेंजर ट्रेनों में तत्काल कोटा शुरु होने के बाद इलाहाबाद की कई ट्रेनों में भी पैसेंजर्स को तत्काल कोटा की यह सुविधा मिलेगी.

रेलवे के सीनियर ऑफिसर्स ने बताया कि प्रयाग से चलने वाली प्रयाग-लखनऊ पैसेंजर में स्लीपर क्लास की फैसेलिटी है, लेकिन इसमें तत्काल कोटा नहीं है. ऑफिसर्स ने बताया कि इस नियम के लागू होने के बाद इस ट्रेन के स्लीपर क्लास में भी तत्काल कोटा लागू कर दिया जाएगा. ऑफिसर्स ने बताया कई और ट्रेनें भी हैं जिनमें तत्काल कोटा की इस फैसेलिटी को लागू किया जाएगा. इसमें एक बात यह है कि इन ट्रेनों के स्लीपर में 60 प्रतिशत तक सीटों का रिजर्वेशन हुआ हो. जोनल रेलवे द्वारा इसकी गणना की जाएगी.

तत्काल सहित अन्य कोटे में करीब 30 प्रतिशत सीटें कम हो जाती हैं. ऐसे में रिजर्वेशन के लिए आपको तत्काल चार्ज भी देना होगा. रेलवे द्वारा प्रजेंट में कई पैसेंजर-एक्सपे्रस ट्रेनों में स्लीपर का रिजर्वेशन किया जा रहा है. लेकिन पॉपुलर न होने के चलते इसमें तत्काल का कोटा नहीं दिया जाता है. रेलवे द्वारा कुछ ही पैसेंजर ट्रेनों में स्लीपर कोच लगाया जाता है. जानकार बताते हैं कि इस तरह से रेलवे की इनकम में भी काफी ग्रोथ होने की उम्मीद है. फिलहाल, हो सकता है कि तत्काल का खेल इन पैसेंजर ट्रेनों में भी स्टार्ट हो जाए.

KOLKATA: Alok Kumar Roy still feels the pain at the base of his spine. His daughter hasn't yet overcome the trauma she suffered four years ago and every time he leaves home to join duty at Howrah, his child asks: "GRP'r lok e ra aar tomake maarbe na to (Make sure that you are not beaten up again by the GRP men)."The Government Railway Police (GRP) wasn't involved in what happened to Roy on May 2, 2009. The miscreants who threw him out of the Howrah-Hatia Express and thrashed him merely claimed that they were GRP personnel but for the child, who saw her father suffer for four long months, this made little difference. The worst part is that Roy's effort has remained unrecognized by the railways. Roy's wife has sent several letters, even to railway ministers, but he has not been considered for an award.Roy was the train superintendent on the Howrah-Hatia Express and knew that a marriage party of 47 from Burrabazar in Kolkata was travelling in the B1 and B2 coaches. He later came to know that it was an affluent family of goldsmiths from Burrabazar travelling on the train.When the train reached Tatanagar at 2.15am that dayon May 2, 2009, six persons approached the two compartments. Roy could make out that they were not passengers from Tatanagar. One of them wore a khaki shirt and trousers and the rest wore normal clothes. All of them had gamochhas tied around their heads and also on their shoulders.

When Roy the train superintendent wanted to know where they were headed, they replied that they were GRP constables. Roy asked them to move to the general class coaches but they tried to push through the door of the AC-III tier ones. Roy wouldn't let them through though. Suddenly, the miscreants pushed him out of the doorway. Fortunately, the train hadn't started moving as yet. He fell on his back on the platform and the six started beating him up. Roy's screams alerted ticket checking staff and coach attendants, who got off the train and intervened. Finding themselves outnumbered, the miscreants fled via the foot over bridge. Roy and the others gave chase but couldn't catch up.

"My husband's white shirt was covered in his own blood. He was bleeding profusely from injuries to his face. He had also hurt his spine and couldn't move normally.

Nobody attended to him till he reached Ranchi, nearly seven hours later.

He received four stitches to his lips there. He took charge of the return train back to Howrah.

He was later admitted to the South Eastern Railway's central hospital at Garden Reach for 17 days and was declared unfit by doctors for the next four months. He protected the property of so many passengersand may have also saved them from possible injury. We had expected the railways to recognize his effort. I even wrote to senior officers and railway ministers but to no avail," said Roy's wife Monideepa.

Senior South Eastern Railway (SER) officials said that Roy had performed a commendable feat and deserved an award. Though his name was recommended, it failed to make the list of those who receive awards on the occasion of Railway Week every year. This hasn't changed Roy's attitude towards life though. A TS on the Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express, he took charge of 19-year-old Shamima Yasmin on Thursday after coming to know that she had lost her way while on her way to college in Balurghat from Kushmundi in South Dinajpur. He escorted her back to Howrah and handed the girl over to her parents.
