The Central Railway (CR) is planning to bring down the woes of millions of commuters who use its suburban lines by trying to lessen the queues at the ticket windows.

With the passenger count reaching abnormal levels —between 53 lakhs on Raksha Bandhan day and 65 lakhs on immersion day — authorities predict that without the plan, queues would be unbearable.

The plan is to get 400 Automated Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) and 200 Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking (JTBS) counters to add to the current strength of 300 ATVMs and 174 JTBS and thereby ensure that more than half the tickets vended on the suburban railways are by these two outlets rather than ticket windows.

The JTBS is a system where shops and other establishments in civil areas can have ticket vending systems in their premises. For this, they get a rupee as commission for every ticket sold. Speaking to dna, Mukesh Nigam, CR’s divisional railway manager, said that the vending of tickets from these non-conventional outlets had touched 45%. “With this plan, we are looking at taking the level to 60%. We are good at transporting people in time and at low costs. The problem is the waiting time for tickets. That is what we are trying to rectify,” said Nigam.

With the recent decision to allow Class IV railway employees to become facilitators to help people get tickets at ATVMs, the authorities believe sale of ATVM tickets would also increase.

प्रतापगढ़। स्टेशन परिसर में लगने वाले स्टैंड में गाड़ियां ज्यादा हो जा रही हैं। इससे स्टैंड को सड़क तक लगाया जा रहा है। इससे आने जाने वाले यात्रियों को खासी दिक्कत का सामना करना पड़ रहा है। रेलवे के आरक्षण काउंटर के बगल में वाहनों को खड़ा करने के लिए स्टैंड बनाया गया है। दो दिन से स्टैंड में गाड़ियों की संख्या ज्यादा हो जा रही है। इससे गाड़ियों को सड़क पर खड़ी कराकर घेर दिया जा रहा है। इससे लोगों को परिसर तक वाहन ले जाने में दिक्कत का सामना करना पड़ रहा है।

पाकुड़: हावड़ा-मालदा रेलखंड पर स्थित तिलभीट्टा रेलवे स्टेशन के लूप लाइन में रविवार की सुबह तकरीबन 9:20 बजे एक मालगाड़ी के इंजन का दो पहिया पटरी से उतर गया। इससे दो पैसेंजर गाड़ियों का परिचालन कुछ देर के लिए बाधित रही।
इंजन पाकुड़ यार्ड से तिलभीट्टा लाया जा रहा था। इसका पहिया रेलवे लाइन में घसीटने के कारण एक्सेल काउंटर का ट्रेक डिवाइस पूरी तरह से क्षतिग्रस्त हो गया। ड्राइवर केसी दास ने बताया कि किस तरह से इंजन बेपटरी हुई, नहीं पता। स्टेशन मास्टर मुकेश कुमार ने बताया कि इस घटना की सूचना हावड़ा व रामपुर हाट के अधिकारियों को दे दी गई है। इधर सूचना मिलते ही रेलवे विभाग के अधिकारियों ने एक्सीडेंट रिलीफ ट्रेन(एआरटी) को तुरंत तिलभीट्टा के लिए भेज दिया। उक्त गाड़ी के माध्यम से दिन के करीब 1 बजे इंजन की पहिया को पटरी पर लाया गया। इसके बाद इस रेल खंड पर परिचालन सामान्य हो गया। पहिया के बेपटरी होने से व‌र्द्धमान-मालदा पैसेंजर ट्रेन तकरीबन एक घंटा व रामपूरहाट गया पैसेंजर ट्रेन करीब 15 मिनट तक पाकुड़ रेलवे स्टेशन में रूकी रही। इसके अलावा अन्य सभी गाड़िया 10-15 मिनट बिलंब से चली। खबर मिलने पर रामपुरहाट के अधिकारी एइएन नरेन्द्र कुमार, एरिया ऑफिसर व एएमई घटना स्थल पर पहुंचे।

पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे के मुख्यालय के गोरखपुर स्टेशन में यार्ड री-माडलिंग के तहत नानइंटरलाकिंग कार्य रविवार को पूरा हो गया। इसके साथ ही स्टेशन पर विश्व का सबसे लंबा प्लेटफार्म अस्तित्व में आ गया है। इस प्लेटफार्म से पहली ट्रेन के रूप में गोरखधाम एक्सप्रेस हिसार के लिए रवाना की गई। शाम को 4.35 बजे प्लेटफार्म नंबर दो से महाप्रबंधक कृष्ण कुमार अटल ने हाथ हिलाकर ट्रेन को रवाना किया। इसके साथ ही पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे ने इतिहास के पन्नों में नया अध्याय लिख दिया।
इसके पूर्व महाप्रबंधक कृष्ण कुमार अटल ने प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक के सामने रेल लाइनों के बीच बने रूट रिले इंटरलाकिंग केबिन (आरआरआइ केबिन) का फीता काटकर उद्घाटन किया। रूट रिले केबिन के अंदर उन्होंने विशेष पूजा भी की तथा मुख्य द्वार पर यार्ड री-माडलिंग के शिलापट्ट का अनावरण किया।
तैयार हुआ प्लेटफार्म : नानइंटरलाकिंग पूरा होते ही गोरखपुर में विश्व का सबसे लंबा प्लेटफार्म बनकर तैयार हो गया। रैंप सहित इसकी लंबाई 1366.4 मीटर, जबकि बिना रैंप की 1355.3 मीटर हो गई है। रेल प्रशासन ने गुड़गांव स्थित लिम्का बुक आफ व‌र्ल्ड रिकार्ड के कार्यालय में इस प्लेटफार्म का नामांकन करा दिया है। दिसंबर में इसकी बकायदा घोषणा भी हो जाएगी। बता दें कि अब तक सबसे बड़ा प्लेटफार्म खड़कगपुर में है। उसकी लंबाई 1072.5 मीटर है। इसके पहले सोनपुर 738 मीटर के नाम दर्ज था।

ALLAHABAD: Incessant rain severely affected the movement of trains at Allahabad railway station. With the railway yard heavily waterlogged and signal failure reported early in the day, several trains were delayed.

The problem was worse on platform number 1 and 2 of the railway junction where the movement of severak New Delhi-bound trains was affected. The trains which arrived late at the station included Kalka Mail and North East Express. Due to the non-functioning of signals for a certain period, train traffic was handled through log books until the signal failure was rectified.

MARGAO: A locomotive and a compartment next to it of Konkan Railway's CST-Margao Mandovi Express derailed at Khed in the Konkan region Sunday afternoon. There were no casualties.

Konkan Railway Corporation senior public relations manager Baban Ghatge said the accident occurred at around 12.30pm, though it was not immediately known what caused the derailment. "There are no reports of any injuries or casualties on account of the derailment. The train was slow as it was approaching the Khed railway station. The cause of the derailment will be known only after a proper inquiry is conducted," Ghatge said.

Though train movement along the route will be regulated until the line is restored, there will be no diversions or cancellation of trains, KRC said. The route was expected to be restored soon. The current train positions on KRC's website Sunday night indicated that several trains were running late.

While 16312 Bikaner bound weekly express and 12998 Hapa-Trivandrum were running nearly 7 hours late, 11004 Sawantwadi-Dadar and 12052 Margao - CSTM Jan Shatabdi were running behind schedule by nearly four hours. 12620 Mangalore - Mumbai Matsyagandha express was also running late by almost an hour.

GORAKHPUR: The Gorakhpur railway station became the proud owner world's longest home platform on Sunday after GM, NER, KK Atal inaugurated the remodelled Gorakhpur Yard.The remodelling work was completed on war-footing within the scheduled time. With the inauguration of the remodelled yard, Gorakhpur now has a platform measuring 1366.33 metres with ramp and 11355.40 metres without it. With this achievement, the NER has also secured a place in the Limca Book of Records. The certificate for the same would be issued soon. The achievement of the Gorakhpur station would also be incorporated in the Guinness Book of World Records. The postal department too is likely to release a special cover to mark the achievement.After inaugurating the newly installed route relay interlocking system, the GM also flagged off 12555 Gorakhdham Express (Gorakhpur to Hisar). Later, talking to reporters, Atal, said, "I congratulate the people of Gorakhpur on getting the privilege of world's longest railway platform in the city. I also appreciate the cooperation of the people of Gorakhpur as more than half of the work was completed within 11 days. I also appreciate the dedication of rail employees and officers who worked day and night for to ensure completion of work within the time limit."On the occasion, the GM announced award of Rs 1 lakh each for the construction department, signal construction department and Lucknow division and an award of Rs 50,000 for the headquarters.

Southern Railway has cancelled a number of trains between Chennai and Andhra Pradesh on Monday due to agitation by some workers of Andhra Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation over the Telangana issue.

The Jan Shatabdi Express running between Chennai Central and Vijayawada, scheduled to leave the city on Monday, has been cancelled, a Railway release said. Similarly, Chennai Central-Gudur Passenger, Vijayawada-Chennai Central Pinakini Express and Bitragunta-Chennai Central Passenger have also been cancelled, the release said.
