CR TO ATTACH ADDITIONAL COACHES

Railways have decided to augment train No. 13202 / 13201 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus – Rajendra Nagar (T) – Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express with two additional coaches i.e. o­ne AC-2 tier cum AC-3 tier and o­ne sleeper class with immediate effect o­n permanent basis for the benefit of passengers.

Wait listed Passengers of above train are requested to please note the augmentation and check their reservation status before commencement of journey.

Normal life was thrown out of gear in all the 13 districts of the Seemandhra region on Friday after anti-bifurcation activists took to the streets protesting the Cabinet’s green signal for the formation of a separate Telangana State.

Protesters squatted on the rail-cum-road bridge on Godavari near Rajamundry, while miscreants stoned the ticket booking office at Kadapa railway station.

Railways have decided to increase passenger fare and freight tariff by about 2 percent from next week to offset the financial burden arising out of increased input cost. Railways is expected to mop up about Rs 1250 crores from the hike in the last six months of the current fiscal, sources in the ministry said. The suburban and non-surban fares would, however, remain untouched. The decision on the fresh round of hike has been taken under the system of fuel adjustment component (FAC) about which an announcement was made in the 2011-12 rail budget. Railways has taken into account the additional burden of 7.3% increase in diesel price and about 15% in electricity hike. While the fare of AC and sleeper class will be increased by about 2%, the freight rate will go up by 1.7%, as per the decision. Railways has imposed 15% levy as the busy season charge on all commodities from October 1 and the FAC-linked revision is likely to take effect from October 10. According to the budget proposal, the fuel component is segregated from tariff as FAC and the railways is expected to revise the passenger and freight tariff after every six months taking into account the input cost and the prevailing market condition.

The company is also executing, for the first time in India, a technology-intensive project involving mechanized laying of tracks within India's upcoming heavy axle load freight corridor. Such mechanised track laying is happening for the first time in India.Bharat Forge has a keen interest in modern locomotives, metro train systems, EMU and DMU, mechanical electrical components like traction motors and electronics including control systems, and project activities of such transport systems. It also aims for advanced technology maintenance systems for rolling stocks.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has decided not to acquire land for property development while executing Namma Metro Phase 2.The decision is among the measures being taken to cut down the project cost, which was estimated at Rs 26,405 crore at the 2011 rates.The Corporation had estimated that about 2,000 properties spread over 200 hectares of land would be required for the 72 km Phase 2, for construction of four extension lines of the East-West and North-South corridors of Phase 1 and two new lines.Acquisition would be restricted for lands required for viaduct and stations alone.

2-LEVEL STATIONS

Another important decision taken to bring down the land requirement and project cost was to construct two-level elevated stations instead of the three-level stations constructed on Phase 1. Ground floors of elevated stations on Phase 1 have passenger amenities and some commercial space, first floors are used for passenger concourse and the second floors have train platforms.Reduction in floor numbers would not only cut down the project cost, but would also require lesser land even as the ground floor was felt sufficient to house all passenger amenities and concourse facilities.

PHASE 2 COSTS

With the conservative 5 per cent increase in the project cost every year, the cost of Phase 2 is likely to cross Rs 30,000 crore when project implementation begins in a few months. The Centre, a partner in Namma Metro, will bear the cost escalation only if it is due to increase in Central duties and cess. Cost escalation for any other reason including delay, will have to be borne by the State government and hence this decision by BMRCL.Asked about the exact land requirement after these two exercises, the official said it was difficult to quantify the same at present. However, it would definitely be lesser than the estimated 200 hectares, he said.

CONSULTANT APPOINTED

BMRCL has appointed Jones Lang LasSalle as the consultant to assist the Land Committee headed by retired IAS officer C. Krishnappa to determine the market value of the properties to be acquired. The consultant would assess the market value and help the committee to fix the compensation amount, he said.The official said the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), which is acquiring lands for Namma Metro, has already issued three preliminary notifications. The first one is for 24 hectares of private and three hectares of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) land for the Mysore Road Terminal-Kengeri line.Another notification is for 7.8 hectares of private land between Byappanahali and Mahadevapura on the Byappanahalli-Whitefield sector. One more notification is issued for 1 hectare of land for construction of Ragigudda and Central Silk Board Stations on the R.V. Road Terminal-Bommasandra line.

The Indian Railways proposes to utilize natural gas as fuel for its fleets of diesel locomotives in line with the international trend, Railways Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday.This will have a substantial effect on reducing the emission of carbon and in making the railway system environment-friendly, he added.Inaugurating 10th edition of the International Rail Exhibition and Conference organized by Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII) in the capital today, Kharge said the Research, Design and Standard Organization (RDSO) is doing considerable work in developing highly fuel efficient diesel locomotives.He disclosed that an Indian manufacturer has established a joint venture with a reputed foreign firm for design and development of the system under the overall supervision of RDSO.Kharge said that FDI was welcome in infrastructure projects, such as the elevated rail corridor in Mumbai, high speed rails and dedicated freight corridor. FDI is also open for factories in rolling stock, such as locomotives and coaches, he stated.

Referring to the ambitious project of the railways - the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC), he said that it would be a game changer for connectivity and freight easing all transportation significantly by connecting the northern hinterland and similarly the eastern side to the plants in the north.

There is considerable scope for private public partnership in railways in general and DFC in particular, Kharge said.

Freight terminals, parts of the DFC, redevelopment of stations and elevated rail corridor in Mumbai are areas proposed for private investment during the 12th Plan period, he said.

He emphasized that during the 12th Plan period, there would be continuous effort to add new routes, augment capacity on existing routes, and invest in terminals, rolling stock and in workshop and maintenance facilities.

In absolute terms, he said that the Railways plan to add 4000 kms of new lines besides over 7,500 kms of doubling and 5,500 kms of gauge conversion and 6500 kms for electrification.

The Railways also plan to procure over one lakh wagons, 24,000 coaches and nearly 4000 locomotives. The Minister pointed out that in the last decade, Indian Railways have reduced the number of accidents per million train kilometers from 0.44 in 2003-04 to 0.13 in 2012-13,Kharge said.

Arunendra Kumar, Chairman, Railway Board, spoke about the large scale bio-toilets being introduced in the railway network. These cheap but effective toilets would be retrofitted in 55000 coaches.

The total number of bio-toilets when fully implemented would be around 2,50,000, he said.

Calling for public private participation in enhancing the speed of the passenger trains.

Kumar said "Our objective is to cover Mumbai-Ahmedabad by one hour and 52 minutes. It is a tough call and we need the support of the private sector in this regard".

He also informed about the signing of a joint venture between Railways and the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam today for setting up a coach factory.

The International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREEE), the only international event in India for the Railway and allied sectors, in its 10th edition this year has over 400 exhibitors. The expo has direct participation from 24 countries including China, Czech Republic, France and Germany, as well as first time participants like Japan, Korea and Russia, with country pavilions.

This year's event also sees the maiden edition of the Urban Mass Transit Expo (UMTE) 2013, a concurrent international exhibition cum conference with a clear focus on Metro and light rail.

The Central Railway (CR) will run two air-conditioned superfast special trains between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Hazrat Nizamuddin. 02109 AC will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Tuesday, October 8 at 2.30 p.m. and arrive at Hazarat Nizamuddin at 10.20 a.m. the next day. 02110 AC will leave Hazarat Nizamuddin on Wednesday, October 9 at 3.50 p.m. and arrive at LTT at 11.50 a.m. the next day. The trains will stop at Nashik Road, Bhusawal, Bhopal, Jhansi, Gwalior and Agra cantonment. “Bookings for train No.02109 will open from Septemeber 4,” a CR spokesperson said.

2 special trains for Santragachi CR will run four festival special trains, in addition to 82 festival specials already announced.  Two will be between Mumbai CST and Santragachi while the other two will be between LTT and Santragachi during the festive season. Train No. 01069 will leave Mumbai CST at 11.05 a.m. on Tuesday, October 8 and will arrive at Santragachi at 7.15 p.m. the next day. Train No. 01070 will leave Santragachi at 06.05 a.m. on Thursday, October 10 and will arrive at Mumbai CST at 2.10 p.m. the next day.  Train No. 01073 will leave LTT at 00.45 a.m. on Thursday, October 10 and will arrive at Santragachi at 12 noon the next day. Train No. 01074 will leave Santragachi at 06.05 a.m. on Saturday, October 12 and will arrive at LTT at 1.55 p.m. the next day.  All the four trains will halt at Kalyan, Igatpuri, Nashik Road, Manmad, Bhusawal, Akola, Badnera, Wardha, Nagpur, Gondia, Durg, Raipur, Bilaspur, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Chakradharpur, Tatanagar and Kharagpur.  “Bookings for 01069 and 01073 will be open from Sept. 4,” a CR spokesperson said.

Weekly Express to Hubli CR will introduce a new Weekly Express train between LTT and Hubli.  Train No 17318 Weekly Express will leave LTT at 12.25 p.m. every Tuesday w.e.f. October 8 and will arrive at Hubli at 04.35 a.m. the next day. Train No 17317 Weekly Express will leave Hubli at 6.50 p.m. every Monday from October 7 and arrive at LTT at 11.05 a.m. the next day. This train will halt at Lonavala, Pune, Satara, Karad, Sangli, Miraj, Kudachi, Ghatprabha, Belgaum, Londa and Dharwar. “Bookings for Train No. 17318 will open from October 5 onwards,” said a CR spokesperson.

Train services at Canning section of Sealdah south section was disrupted for five hours today due to passengers' agitation alleging late running of trains. Railway officials said the driver of an early morning train being ill couldn't remember where he had kept the keys and so the train was delayed.When the 6:30 a.m. Up Canning local got delayed in leaving the Canning station due to the loss of keys, the daily passengers started an agitation in the platform and put up a rail block demanding immediate departure of the train.

The driver took 15 minutes to find the keys, but when the train was ready to leave the station the passengers continued to block its passage. The blockade spread to Betberia and Ghola stations also. 

In the meantime, railway officials took the decision to turn back all Canningbound trains to Sealdah from Champahati station. Then the passengers who were going to Canning started a blockade at Champahati station. 

The agitation continued for five hours and at 11:30 a.m. and after the intervention of higher officials the trains in that section started running as usual.

Revision of Passenger Fares with effect from 7th October, 2013



The Ministry of Railways have decided to revise Fuel Adjustment Component (FAC) linked Passenger fare with effect from 7th October, 2013. The revised fares will also apply to tickets issued in advance for journeys to commence o­n or after 7th October, 2013.
The revised fare for some important pairs of stations is attached herewith.
