Railways have decided to suspend the services of Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express for two days from October 15 on the request of Bangladesh Railway to avoid operational complications arising due to stoppage of train operations in that country on Eid festival.
The bi-weekly train between Kolkata and Dhaka will not run on October 15 and 16 due to Eid festival, said a senior Railway Ministry official.
The official said it has been done on the request of Bangladesh Railway to avoid operational complications arising due to stoppage of train operations in Dhaka during the festival.
The train runs from Kolkata every Tuesday and Saturday while in the return direction it departs from Dhaka every Wednesday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, railways is planning to introduce the facility for booking of return tickets in Maitree Express.
"Steps are being taken to introduce the system of booking return tickets by Maitree Express," the official said.
India and Bangladesh had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on February 16, 2013 in Dhaka for construction of a new rail link between Akhaura (Bangladesh) and Agartala (India).
In order to improve trade through railways, the two Railways are jointly working towards containerisation of cargo and setting up suitable rail-linked Inland Container Depots to handle the cargo.
Out of the 16 projects that have been included in the USD 800 million Indian Line of Credit to Bangladesh, 13 are railway projects amounting to USD 687.4 million. Projects include procurement of rolling stock and development of infrastructure.

झाँसी : रेलवे प्रशासन द्वारा तीन ट्रेन के ठहराव का विस्तार कर दिया गया है।
- ट्रेन संख्या 11123/11124 बरौनी-ग्वालियर मेल को लालपुर स्टेशन पर ठहराव दिया गया है। ट्रेन का लालपुर स्टेशन पर अपराह्न 2.48 बजे आगमन एवं प्रस्थान समय 2.50 बजे होगा। इसी प्रकार वापसी में ट्रेन का आगमन शाम 4.51 बजे एवं प्रस्थान 4.53 बजे होगा।
- ट्रेन संख्या 19167/19168 अहमदाबाद-वाराणसी साबरमती एक्सप्रेस का लालपुर स्टेशन पर आगमन रात 8.15 बजे व प्रस्थान समय 8.17 बजे होगा। वापसी में ट्रेन लालपुर स्टेशन रात 2.02 बजे पहुँचेगी व 2.04 बजे प्रस्थान करेगी।
- ट्रेन संख्या 19045/19046 सूरत-छपरा ताप्ति गंगा एक्सप्रेस का ठहराव शंकरगढ़ स्टेशन पर कर दिया गया है। यह ट्रेन शंकरगढ़ स्टेशन सुबह 5.51 बजे पहुँचेगी व 5.53 पर प्रस्थान करेगी। वापसी में इसका आगमन रात 9.16 बजे होगा व 9.18 बजे प्रस्थान करेगी।

V. Narayanasamy, Union Minister of State for PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pension will flag off the inaugural special train no. 06858 Mangalore Central-Puducherry Express at Mahe railway station on September 28.
A press release by the Palakkad division of the Southern Railway said here on Thursday that the Minister would flag off the inaugural special at Mahe railway station at 4.30 p.m. on September 28.
This special train will leave Mangalore Central at 1.45 p.m. on that day and will reach Puducherry at 10 a.m. on September 29.
The special train will have one AC two-tier, one AC three-tier, four sleeper class, six general second class coaches and two luggage brake vans.
The trains will stop at Villupuram, Vridhachalam, Ariyalur, Srirangam, Tiruchi, Karur, Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Shoranur, Tirur, Kozhikode, Mahe, Thalasserry, Kannur and Kasaragod, the release added.

बरेली : रेल अफसरों की मनमानी यात्रियों पर काफी भारी पड़ रही है। गुरुवार को जंक्शन से दिल्ली जाने वाली 14315 इंटरसिटी एक्सप्रेस में डी-09 चेयरकार कोच अचानक हटा दिया। इसमें 104 यात्रियों का रिजर्वेशन था। कोच में सफर करने वाले यात्रियों ने कोच को काफी तलाश किया। लेकिन कोच नहीं मिला। इससे खफा यात्रियों ने प्लेटफार्म पर ही हंगामा किया। ट्रेन के टीटीई ने यात्रियों को समझाने का प्रयास किया। मगर, रिजर्वेशन के बाद भी बर्थ न मिलने से खफा यात्री शांत नहीं हुए। टीटीई ने स्टेशन मास्टर को कोच न होने की जानकारी दी। जिसके चलते स्टेशन मास्टर ने निर्धारित समय सुबह 04:50 बजे ट्रेन को रवाना कर दिया। इससे मजबूरी में यात्री जनरल समेत अन्य कोच में सवार हो गए। इसके अलावा रामपुर, मुरादाबाद, अमरोहा स्टेशनों पर भी यात्रियों ने हंगामा किया। स्टेशन अधीक्षक एजे सिद्दीकी की ने बताया कि कोच में खराबी के चलते कम किया गया था।

Plans to set up the Rs. 960 crore forged wheel factory of the Indian Railways at UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s constituency in Rae Bareli are taking shape, with factory construction work scheduled to begin shortly.“Blueprints of the factory plan have been finalised. The foundation laying function and “bhoomi pujan’ (traditional prayers) is expected this month. Dates are being finalised,” Chairman Railway Board Arunendra Kumar told HT.Proposed as a joint venture project between the Railways and the Steel PSU Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), this is the public transporter’s second gift to Rae Bareli.The new facility, planned over a 27 acre plot adjacent to the existing rail coach factory at Lalgunj, is targeted to be commissioned in 2017-18.Last December,  a Memor-andum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Railways and the RINL. “The Railways will annually buy 50,000 wheels in the first year of production and the orders will go up to 1 lakh in coming years”, Kumar said.According to the terms of agreement, RINL will invest the money to build the factory, while the land has been leased by the Railway ministry for 30 years at the rate of 8% of the current value of land.

16 SPECIAL TRAINS TOWARDS DIFFERENT DESTINATIONS

192 ADDITIONAL COACHES AUGMENTED IN DIFFERENT REGULAR TRAINS.

          More than o­ne lakh additional berths have been created by East Coast Railway to clear the waitlisted passengers during Puja Season this year i.e. from September to October 2013.

          With a view to provide comfort to the commuters and also to clear the huge waitlist of passengers during the peak season, East Coast Railway has taken steps to run special trains towards different destinations from its jurisdiction and also by augmenting additional coaches in different mail/express trains. Through this, 1,76,580 additional berths (including 94,564 additional berths originating from ECoR) have been created to provide comfortable journey to the passengers during this peak Puja-rush Season.

          Similarly, Railways is running 16 Special Trains from and through ECoR jurisdiction towards different destinations of the country out of which 07 special trains (65 trips) are originating from East Coast Railway System. The special trains originating from East Coast Railway jurisdiction will provide 66,544 additional berths to the commuters travelling to their destinations during the period. These trains are- Bhubaneswar-New Delhi AC Super fast Express via Angul and Sambalpur City, Bhubaneswar-Yesvantpur AC Super fast Express,  Visakhapatnam-Tata via Keonjhar, Puri-Santragachhi, Puri-Sealdah, Visakhapatnam-Kollam and Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad AC Super fast Express. Apart from this, 82,026 berths have been created in 09 special trains passing through ECoR jurisdiction to facilitate the passengers between Hatia & Yesvantpur via Sambalpur, Santragachhi-Kochuveli, Hyderabad-Shalimar, Shalimar-Yesvantpur, Secunderabad-Guwahati, Kamakhya-Yesvantpur, Kamakhya-Chennai, Santragachhi-Chennai and Dibrugarh & Kochuveli.

East Coast Railways would like passengers to avail the services of these special trains during the forthcoming Puja Season to avoid rush in regular Mail/Express long distance trains.

To clear extra rush of passengers during the ensuing festival season, the  South Central Railway is running eight special trains between Secunderabad and Vijayawada via Nalgonda and Guntur.

Secunderabad-Vijayawada special train will depart from Secunderabad at 23.15 hours on November 8,15,22 and 29 and arrive in Vijayawada at 05.30 hours the next day.

In the opposite direction, the special train will depart from Vijayawada at 23.00 hours on November 7,14,21 and 28 and arrive in Secunderabad at 05.40 hours the next day.

Police Athletic Meet

The 23rd All-India Railway Protection Force Athletic Duty Meet-2013 is being organised by Secunderabad and Hyderabad divisions of the South Central Railway at Railway Sports Complex Grounds, Secunderabad from September 25 to 27. nearly 201 athletes from 14 Railways/RSPF Camps are participating in this meet. The athletes selected in this meet, will represent Railway Protection Force at the All-India Police Duty Meet-2013 to be held in Lucknow in November

Pantry Car service in Tirupati-Hazrat Nizamuddin AP Samparkranthi Express has been temporarily withdrawn with immediate effect due to expiry of the pantry car catering contract.

Train Rescheduled

Secunderabad-Porabandar Express scheduled to depart from Secunderabad at 15.00 on September 25 is rescheduled to depart at 10.00 on September 26 due to delay in its pairing train on account of breaches on Bharuch-Vadodara Section.

New Delhi(PTI): The bi-weekly train service between Calcutta and Dhaka will be suspended on October 15 and 16 because of Id, a railway official has said. The request to suspend Maitree Express had come from Bangladesh Railway.

Railways plans to induct high power locomotives to carry more goods at higher speed as part of its technological upgrading programme.According to the plan, the national transporter has produced the prototype 5500 horsepower (HP) diesel locomotives which are already running as a pilot project in North Central Railway.Known as 5500 HP WDG5, the high power locomotive is being developed by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) at Varanasi, a production unit of Railways.There will be more such high power locomotives manufactured at the DLW in future, said a senior Railway Ministry official.The 5500 HP WDG5 is primarily aimed at improving the capacity with higher balancing speed. The locomotive is equipped with advanced technology such as electronic fuel injection (for higher fuel efficiency and emission control) to run at 100 km per hour speed higher axle load.DLW's locomotive designs implement collision protection, provision for heating, ventilation and air conditioning and improved visibility thereby setting up new standards for crew comport and safety.Currently, DLW manufactures locomotives with a wide horsepower range, from 1400 HP to 5500 HP for multiple track gauges.Besides meeting the needs of non-railway customers in India, DLW is exporting locomotives to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Malaysia, Tanzania, Sudan, Senegal, Mozambique and Myanmar.The factory is also manufacturing diesel generator (DG) sets and supplying them to Nuclear Power Corporation India Limited's plants at Kota, Narora, Kaiga and Kalpakkam.

Having manufactured over 6700 locomotives till date, DLW is now one of the biggest locomotive manufacturers in the world. In 2012-13, it manufactured an unprecedented 294 locomotives, thereby increasing its production nearly three times from 112 locomotives manufactured in 2002-03.

Set up in 1964, DLW will be completing 50 years of its production service next year.
