माती मुख्यालय के पास स्थित लालपुर स्टेशन पर पहली अक्टूबर से ग्वालियर-बरौनी मेल व साबरमती एक्सप्रेस का ठहराव होगा। इसके लिए कांग्रेस सांसद के प्रस्ताव पर रेल मंत्रालय ने मंजूरी प्रदान कर दी है।
लालपुर स्टेशन पर एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनों का ठहराव दिये जाने तथा स्टेशन को जिलास्तरीय बनाने की मांग काफी समय से चल रही है। लोगों की मांग पर क्षेत्रीय कांग्रेस सांसद राजाराम पाल ने रूरा, लालपुर व बरीपाल स्टेशन पर एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनों का ठहराव करने के प्रस्ताव रेल मंत्रालय को दिये थे। इसमें रूरा स्टेशन पर गोमती व इंटरसिटी एक्सप्रेस तथा घाटमपुर स्थित बरीपाल स्टेशन पर कानपुर-चित्रकूट एक्सप्रेस के ठहराव को रेल मंत्रालय ने पहले ही मंजूरी दी थी। अब लालपुर स्टेशन पर ग्वालियर-बरौनी मेल तथा साबरमती एक्सप्रेस के ठहराव को भी मंजूरी प्रदान कर दी है। उत्तर मध्य रेलवे जोनल सलाहकार समिति के सदस्य शेख मोहम्मद ने बताया कि पहली अक्टूबर से लालपुर स्टेशन पर 11124 ग्वालियर-बरौनी मेल शाम 4.50 बजे आएगी और 4.52 पर रवाना होगी। 11123 बरौनी-ग्वालियर मेल दोपहर 2.48 पर आएगी और 2.50 बजे रवाना होगी। साबरमती एक्सप्रेस अहमदाबाद से फैजाबाद के लिए रात 8.15 बजे आएगी और 8.17 बजे रवाना होगी और फैजाबाद से अहमदाबाद के लिए 2.02 बजे आएगी और 2.04 पर रवाना होगी।

In a bid to avoid rush in regular trains to New Delhi and Yesvantpur and provide comfort to passengers, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has decided to run weekly special trains for New Delhi and Yesvantpur from Bhubaneswar and between Visakhapatnam and Tata via Bhubaneswar, Jakhapura, Keonjhar and Banspani.

The 02815 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi special train will leave Bhubaneswar at 8.10am every Sunday and arrive at New Delhi at 6.05pm every Monday starting from September 29 to November 24. In its return direction, the 02816 New Delhi-Bhubaneswar special train will leave New Delhi at 1pm every Monday and arrive at Bhubaneswar at 11.05am every Tuesday between September 30 to November 25. The train will have stoppages at Cuttack, Bhadrak, Baleswar.

Similarly, the 02845 Bhubaneswar-Yesvantpur special train will depart Bhubaneswar at 7.45am every Wednesday, which will reach Yesvantpur at 12.10 pm every Thursday between September 25 and November 27. In its return way, the 02846 Yesvantpur-Bhubaneswar special train will leave Yesvantpur at 11.30 pm every Thursday and reach Bhubaneswar at 3.30am every Saturday from September 26 to November 28. The train will have stoppages at Khurda Road, Balugaon and Brahmapur.

Besides, the 08516 Visakhapatnam-Tata special train will leave Visakhapatnam at 5.45pm every Sunday and arrive at Tata at 10.45am on the next day between September 22 to November 24. In its return direction, the 08515 Tata-Visakhapatnam special train will depart Tata at 1pm on every Monday between September 23 to November 25 and reach Visakhapatnam at 4.40pm the following day.

The train will have stoppages at Brahmapur, Chhatrapur, Balugaon, Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Mancheswar, Cuttack, Jakhapura, Sukinda Road, Harichandanpur, Kendujhargarh, Nayagarh and Bansapani.

JAIPUR: The Jaipur Metro project has come at the right time to cover up for the poor public transport in the state capital. Relating the project to boom in population, private vehicles, industrialization and employment in the recent times, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which has complied several reports finds that the existing public transport system is inadequate in terms of quality, quantity and coverage, which could not cope with ever increasing pressure.

The reports say that the Rajasthan Transport Department has about 0.82 million registered motor vehicles (2011), of which 76% or 629,265 are 2-wheelers. A total of 2.7 million vehicular trips are generated every day (2006). A meagre 13-19 % trips are by city buses covering an average distance of about 9 km.

The city has about 350 buses and some 3,500 minibuses, but it is not sufficient to cater to the city people. Most of the people are dependent on private vehicles for daily commuting. A senior Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) official said, "It is expected 2 lakh people will commute by Metro per day till 2014. It is not possible to increase the buses as it would lead to congestion on the roads. Mass rapid transport is the only possible solution."

In terms of population, Jaipur is the 10th largest metropolitan city of India. The city has been growing at a higher rate compared to the population growth in the district. The development area of the city as per Jaipur Master Plan 2025 extends over 600 sq km. An official said, "It is not possible for other mode to travel quickly with large number of commuters. A Metro can accommodate commuters of 5 buses in one coach. The total capacity of the train is 1,034 passengers."

The official added that the project will benefit all sections of the society, especially weaker ones as they will use the most equipped mode of transport at a low cost. "Rajasthan has more population in the lower bracket of per-capita consumer expenditure compared to the national figures," the report reads.

Many students who come from across the country are expected to benefit once the Metro starts operating. "The city is very peaceful and many north Indian families prefer to send their children to Jaipur for higher and technical education. Jaipur has more than 60 engineering colleges, 40 business management institutes, 15 pharmacy institutes, 4 hotel management institutes, 3 medical colleges and 6 dental colleges. It also has eight universities including Rajasthan University and Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, which is one of the best technical institutes in India," reads the report.

Commemorating 100 years of Indian Cinema and 160{+t}{+h}anniversary of Indian Railways, Films Division, in association with SCR, Vijayawada, will organise special screening of films on the theme ‘Indian Railways and Indian Cinema — 100 years of Togetherness’. The event will be held at Railway Institute at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Six films will be screened on the occasion. They are : ‘Train Within 24 Frames’, ‘Century of Progress’, ‘Railways and Civic Sense’, ‘I am 100 Years Young’, and a biographical film ‘Raj Kapoor’ on the legendary actor.

NAGPUR: Cracking the whip on large-scale irregularities in Central Railway Institute at Guard Line, the administration on Tuesday suspended chief office superintendent (COS) and secretary RC Shankhwar. Despite a two-member committee consisting of then divisional personnel officer (DPO) N D Gangurde and divisional finance manager (DFM) Ramesh Kumar having submitted a report way back in 2011 pointing out irregularities, no action was taken against office-bearers.

TOI on September 21 had reported that after DRM Brijesh Dixit's orders, the institute was sealed and administrators appointed. DRM is the patron of the institute. On September 20, treasurer FJ Frank was suspended. On Tuesday, Shankhwar was suspended. Shankhwar had denied the allegations but had admitted that probe was ordered because institute elections were not held as scheduled in 2009.

He also said that the committee report had no substance. The report was submitted in 2011 but action has been taken when 10 days were left for the committee's term to expire. Shankhwar has already been issued a major penalty chargesheet in December 2012.

When contacted, PRO P D Patil confirmed Shankhwar's suspension owing to irregularities in the institute.

The East Coast Railways (ECoR) conducted a 36-hour-long ticket checking drive and awareness programme at the Bhubaneswar railway station to discourage ticketless travel in trains and unauthorised visits to the station premises.

During the special massive ticket checking on Monday and Tuesday, the ECoR detected about 600 passengers who had travelled without tickets or with improper tickets and also collected a fine of Rs 1.60 lakh. Apart from this, 42 persons were fined for spitting, littering and violating cleanliness rules.

Similarly, the passengers have been counseled and educated to buy bonafide tickets from the ticket counters to make their journey hassle free. Daily commuters have also been advised to buy Monthly Season Tickets (MST) to avoid standing in the queue at the Booking Counters.

The MST is also much cheaper (about one third) than the regular journey fare of a month.

Passengers were also encouraged to buy ATVM (Automatic Ticket Vending Machine) Smart Card which is one of the most convenient ways to buy tickets now- a-days. Passengers were advised to carry minimum luggage during their train journey so that their journey is more comfortable.

About 67 ticket checking staff, including commercial supervisors, Chief Ticket Inspectors (CTI), Train Ticket Examiners (TTE) form Khurda Road Division along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were deployed for the drive. It was headed by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Khurda Road Division HL Luang.

Altogether 14 minor children were rescued by the Samastipur RPF from the clutches of touts from the Samastipur railway platform late on Monday evening. They were to board a Ambala-bound train when RPF men detained them. Two persons identified as Anil Kumar of Ballochak under Dalsingsarai police station of the district and Baldeo Sada of Gangapur village under Sarairanjan police station were arrested in this connection. The rescued children hailing from Sahpur Patori block of the district were handed over to Bal Kalyan Samiti for sending them to their respective homes.

AHMEDABAD/VADODARA: The train services between Ahmedabad and Mumbai were badly affected for the second consecutive day following heavy rains in Vadodara, Bharuch and most parts of south Gujarat.On Tuesday, 11 trains were cancelled after water level at the railway bridge between Palej and Miyagam in the Vadodara division started flowing above the danger mark. Many trains were moving late by nearly three to four hours.Some long distance trains bound for northern, central and eastern part of the country were diverted via Ratlam and Bhopal. The trains that were cancelled were Mumbai Central - Ahmedabad Double Decker, Bandra (T) -Ahmedabad, Shatabdi Express, Surat Intercity Express, Bhilad-Vadodara Express, Vadtal Swaminarayan - Bharuch Passenger, Ahmedabad - Bandra (T), Ahmedabad - Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad - Borivili.

The Vadodara division suspended narrow gauge operations till further intimation due to heavy rainfall. Trains on this gauge on the Bharuch-Jambusar-Kavi, Chorana-Moti Koral, Jambusar-Pratapnagar, Malsar-Chandod, Nadiad-Bhadran and Kosamba-Umarpada sections have been suspended.
