HUBLI: South Western Railway Sports Association (SWRSA) will organize a 7- day mega event of 26th All India Railway Chess Championship-2013-14 from September 22 to 28, 2013 at EMD loco shed in Gadag road in Hubli.It will be inaugurated by Ashok Kumar Mital, General Manager, SWR. A galaxy of chess players including grand masters, international masters are participating.Seven days of competition for team championship followed by individual championship will decide the best team in Indian Railway and best Player in Indian Railways.

Nagpur: Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) are all set to engage in a coordination meeting shortly to thrash out issues between the two different units to ensure better safety of passengers and their properties. Bringing down crimes on Nagpur railway station, among other issues, is likely to take centre stage in the meeting.

The rise in crime on railway stations and trains seems to have left the concerned railway security forces with fresh challenges. Apart from strengthening their own anti-crime mechanisms, RPF and GRP authorities are now also keen to deliberate on synchronized actions to clamp down on miscreants. The top cops from both the units believe that an open interaction will pave way for better understanding of each other’s roles.

RPF’s senior divisional security commissioner, Central Railway, A Ibrahim Sheriff and superintendent of police, (in-charge), GRP, Prakash Jadhav are both gearing up to ensure the coordination meeting ushers a new episode in the relation between the two units engaged in the common objective of security on the railway premises.

RPF’s senior commandant, Sheriff said the meeting would be focused to step up coordination at the grass roots level. “The staffers of either unit should not feel that they are in competition against each other. We have to work leaving behind the disagreements,” said Sheriff. He said that there is steep rise in crime against passengers which has grown by nearly 50%. “Free registration of offences may be one of the reasons behind the bloated crime figure, but we are taking it as a challenge now,” he said. Sheriff said that he is also coordinating with SP Rail (Bhopal).

“RPF and GRP should help each other. If RPF comes across any criminal then the personnel should immediately hand him over to the GRP. The GRP is also expected to inform us about matter that concerns us,” he said.

It’s learnt that RPF and GRP have now taken up the responsibilities of patrolling the outer portions of the Nagpur railway station by sharing the areas. “RPF is also especially focusing on thefts of parcels from small luggage rooms and escorting the trains that run in the night. Rescuing of children is also one our prime focus area,” said Sheriff.

GRP SP Jadhav said he had already invited Sheriff to be present in the railway crime meeting to voice his opinions. “Apart from coordinations, we are also strengthening our local crime branch and detection branch of Nagpur GRP police station,” said Jadhav.

GURGAON: The first phase of Rapid Metro Rail covering a distance of little over 5 km is likely to be inaugurated on October 2.The first phase will have six stations - DLF phase-II, Belvedere Towers, Gateway Towers, Moulsari Avenue, DLF Phase-III and Sikanderpur.Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister S S Dhillon today reviewed the progress of laying of Rapid Metro Network here at a meeting with officers of district administration and Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited.Dhillon said it was the country's first Metro Rail system developed on PPP mode at cost of about Rs 1,100 crore.The interchange station is at Sikanderpur, where Rapid Metro connects Delhi Metro system via a skywalk. This will provide seamless connectivity to Delhi Metro, thereby connecting DLF cyber city to Delhi.Managing Director of Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited Sanjeev Rai informed Dhillon that the construction of first phase of Rapid Metro has been completed.He said work on second phase from Sikanderpur up to Sector 55-56 of Gurgaon has also commenced.Rai said that in the first phase the Rapid Metro will have three coaches with a capacity of 800 passengers.He said the Rapid Metro will have common ticketing system with Delhi Metro which means that the tokens and smart cards of Delhi Metro will work on Rapid Metro system also.This will ensure commuter convenience as there will be no requirement of purchasing multiple tickets.He said a total of five trains will deployed in first phase. CCTV Cameras have also been installed.Rai also said that with the advent of Rapid Metro, the commuters will get relief from traffic woes experienced on Gurgaon-Delhi stretch of National Highway 8.

AHMEDABAD: Security at Ahmedabad railway station in Kalupur will soon be strengthened with sharper vision. Dissatisfied with the unclear and grainy images of the old CCTV network, Western Railway plans to install high definition (HD) CCTV surveillance system at Kalupur railway station to monitor activities at different places more effectively.

Around 50 HD CCTV cameras are to be installed at ticket booking counters, platforms, reservation centers, parking space and also in the shunting yards. "The entire HD CCTV project will cost Rs 17 lakh and should be installed in two months. The new cameras are based on the latest HD-IP technology," said Jitendra kumar Jayant, public relations officer of Western Railway, Ahmedabad.

Nearly 175 trains stop at the Kalupur station daily and, on an average, 1.20 lakh to 1.30 lakh passengers pass through it every day. But the security arrangements at the station were not up to the mark. The station got its CCTV system in 1998 but these were now proving inadequate in providing clear video images of the goings-on at the station.

The Ahmedabad railway terminus at Kalupur has only 17 CCTV cameras. Moreover, they are not able to provide clear images of commuters' faces and other details. Moreover, the 17 cameras cover only Platform Nos. 1 to 5 while Platform Nos. 6 to 12 are without any electronic surveillance. At these platforms, long distance trains bring passengers daily from the border states.

The new HD CCTV network will have zoom facility and will help the police identify and locate troublemakers and untoward occurrences from the control room.

Jayant said that the Western Railway was setting up an 'RPF Sankul' near the reservation office at the Ahmedabad railway station. "This will enhance security and safety and improve services. The RPF Sankul will be the control point from where goings-on within and outside the railway station will be monitored," he said.

Officials at the CCTV control room will also keep an eye on ticket black-marketers and track movement of unauthorized personnel near booking centers. The 'RPF Sankul' will be run round-the-clock by RPF personnel who will keep an eye on platforms, the railway yard and ticket-booking counters. "They will be better equipped to initiate immediate action in times of emergency," said a railway official.

MANGALORE: Konkan Railway will augment train no 12051/12052 Dadar - Madgaon 'Janshatabdi' Express (Daily) and trains 12432/12431 Nizamuddin - Trivandrum 'Rajdhani' Express (tri-weekly) on temporary basis with effect from September 13 to November 22 during Ganpati, Deepawali and Chhath Festival.

Apart from this, Konkan Railway has also decided to provide two minute halt to 12133/12134 Mumbai CST-Mangalore Express at Kundapur Station from September 25 to March 24, 2014 on experimental basis.Regarding the two-minute experimental halt at Kundapur, Vaishali Patange, chief public relations officer, Konkna Railway said: Train No 12133 will arrive at Kundapur Station at 12.50 am and depart at 12.52am during monsoon period - up to October 31. From November 1, train 12133 will arrive at Kundapur Station at 10.40am and depart at 10.42am.The Train no 12134 will arrive at Kundapur Station at 6.10pm and depart at 6.12pm during monsoon period and train no 12134 will arrive at Kundapur Station at 3.28pm and depart at 3.30pm. The experimental halt will be withdrawn if the traffic during the period does not justify the halt, she said.

Dr Atasi Chatterjee, Member, Heritage & Culture Committee, Indian Railways visited the Regional Rail Museum at Howrah and the Heritage Museum at Eastern Railway’s Headquarters, Fairlie Place and attended Heritage Committee meeting at Eastern Railway’s Headquarters this morning. The meeting was presided over by Shri B. K. Patel, Addl. General Manager, Eastern Railway.Dr Atasi Chatterjee addressing the members of the Heritage Committee said that Eastern Railway being one of the oldest zones of the Indian Railways and has a rich heritage and culture. She appreciated the efforts of the Eastern Railway in upholding the great culture and heritage of entire Eastern India. She praised for the maintenance of Regional Rail Museum at Howrah. The Heritage & Culture Committee of Indian Railways will recommend Railway Board for the upliftment of the museum and enhancement of fund to complete the pending works which includes a seating gallery near musical fountain, a working model of train signaling system to be made functional, tunnel for toy-train etc. Toy-train at the Regional Rail Museum needs major overhauling of its engines and coaches as observed by Dr Atasi Chatterjee. She urged upon the Eastern Railway’s officials to maintain the standard of the museum as it is one of the national standard museums located in Eastern India.                

After the Heritage & Culture Committee meeting, she had an informal discussion with the General Manager, Shri G C Agarwal and other Principal Heads of the Departments and Additional General Manager Shri B K Patel. She was accompanied by PS and APS of Minister of State for Railways.

हिसार : मॉडल स्टेशन पर सीसीटीवी कैमरे लगाए जाने के प्रस्ताव को हरी झंडी मिल गई है। पांच साल से इस प्रस्ताव का इंतजार कर रहे स्टेशन को जल्द ही एक दर्जन से अधिक कैमरों की सुविधा नसीब होने वाली है। सभी छह प्लेटफार्म, दो प्रवेश द्वार व बुकिंग परिसर में सीसीटीवी कैमरे स्थापित किए जाएंगे। बीकानेर मंडल के अधिकारियों ने स्थान निश्चित कर कैमरों के दायरे में आने वाले स्टेशन परिसर का नक्शा तैयार कर लिया है। इन कैमरों की फुटेज संकलन व नजर रखने के लिए नियंत्रण कक्ष स्थापित किया जाएगा। आरपीएफ थाना से सटे कक्ष में कंट्रोल रूम बनाया जाएगा।
हर रोज आवागमन करने वाले 12 हजार से अधिक यात्रियों से सौ से अधिक रेलगाड़ियों की आवाजाही के कारण सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से सीसीटीवी कैमरों की दरकार कई साल पहले से ही महसूस की गई है। अधिकारिक सूत्रों अनुसार फिलहाल कैमरों को लगाने के साथ नियंत्रण कक्ष अस्थाई तौर पर प्लेटफार्म नंबर दो व तीन के बीच भवन में बनाया जा रहा है। नए भवन का निर्माण कार्य पूरा होते ही कंट्रोल रूम शिफ्ट कर दिया जाएगा।
जीआरपी व आरपीएफ को मिलेगी राहत
कम स्टाफ और पुराने साधनों से सुरक्षा का जिम्मा उठा रही रेलवे की जीआरपी व आरपीएफ फोर्स को सीसीटीवी कैमरों से काफी मदद मिलेगी। दोनों बलों के प्रभारियों का कहना है कि कैमरों से 24 घंटे निगरानी में सहयोग के अलावा किसी घटना के बाद भी फुटेज को देख अपराधी तक पहुंचने में मदद मिलेगी।
बहुत जल्द लगेंगे सीसीटीवी कैमरे
बीकानेर मंडल के एडीआरएम जीत सिंह ने बताया कि सभी औपचारिकताएं पूरी हो चुकी हैं। जल्द ही स्टेशन परिसर सीसीटीवी कैमरों से लैस हो जाएगा। सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से प्लेटफार्म, टिकट घर, प्रवेश द्वार व यात्री पुल पर कैमरे लगाने का निर्णय लिया गया है।

पूर्वोतर रेलवे के सिवान-थावे रेलखंड पर पूजा के अवसर पर स्पेशल साप्ताहिक ट्रेन का परिचालन किया जाएगा। इस स्पेशल ट्रेन का परिचालन गुवाहटी एवं गोरखपुर के बीच होगा।
पूजा स्पेशल ट्रेन संख्या 05609 अप प्रत्येक शुक्रवार को गुवाहटी से 21 बजे चलेगी तथा थावे में 18.30 मिनट पर पहुंचेगी। उसके बाद यह ट्रेन 21 बजकर 35 मिनट पर गोरखपुर पहुंचेगी। यह ट्रेन 11 अक्टूबर, 18 अक्टूबर, 25 अक्टूबर, 1 नवंबर, 8 नवंबर,15 नवंबर, 22 नवंबर एवं 29 नवंबर को गुवाहाटी से गोरखपुर आएगी। वहीं दूसरी तरफ गोरखपुर गुवाहटी गाड़ी संख्या 05610 प्रत्येक शनिवार को गोरखपुर से 23 बजकर 30 मिनट पर चलेगी तथा थावे में 2 बजकर 35 मिनट पर पहुंचेगी। उसके बाद गुवाहटी में 23 बजकर 30 मिनट पर पहुंचेगी।
यह ट्रेन 12 अक्टूबर, 19, 26, 2 नवंबर, 9, 13, 23 एवं 30 नवंबर को गोरखपुर से गुवाहटी जाएगी। साप्ताहिक ट्रेनों के परिचालन शुरु होने से लोगों में काफी खुशी है।
