अभी सूने-सूने और बदहाल नजर आने वाले बिल्लोचपुरा रेलवे स्टेशन की रंगत जल्द ही बदलने जा रही है। इसे ट्रांसपोर्ट हब बनाया जाएगा, जिसके बाद पैलेस ऑन व्हील्स सहित अन्य प्रमुख ट्रेन यहां रुकेंगी। इसके साथ ही आगरा फोर्ट स्टेशन के कायाकल्प की भी योजना है।
उत्तर मध्य रेलवे की छठवीं क्षेत्रीय रेल उपयोगकर्ता परामर्शदात्री समिति की बैठक बुधवार को होटल क्लार्क शीराज में हुई। पत्रकारों से बातचीत में जोन के महाप्रबंधक आलोक जौहरी ने बताया कि आगरा कैंट और इलाहाबाद को डी कंजक्ट किया जा रहा है, जिससे ट्रेन की वापसी के लिए इंजन बदलने की मशक्कत न करनी पड़े। इसमें समय और पैसे की बर्बादी होती है। इसके लिए आगरा फोर्ट, राजा की मंडी व इलाहाबाद में छिवकी, सूबेदारगंज स्टेशनों को विकसित किया जाएगा। उन्होंने बताया कि पहले चरण में जोन के छह प्रमुख स्टेशनों आगरा कैंट, मथुरा, झांसी, इलाहाबाद जंक्शन, ग्वालियर और कानपुर सेंट्रल का मास्टर प्लान यात्रियों की सुविधाओं के नजरिए से तैयार किया जा रहा है। मथुरा, छिवकी और जियोनाथपुर में रेल फ्लाईओवर के सर्वे का कार्य किया जा रहा है। वहीं, इस वित्तीय वर्ष में जोन में 75 आरओबी बनाए जाने का प्रस्ताव है। अब तक आठ बन चुके हैं और 54 पर निर्माण कार्य चल रहा है। उन्होंने कहा कि दलालों पर अंकुश लगाने के लिए आरक्षण केंद्रों पर सीसीटीवी कैमरे लगाए जा रहे हैं। चूहों से होने वाले नुकसान को बचाने के लिए इंटीग्रेटेड सिस्टम के तहत ठेका उठाया गया है।
मिल सकता है राजधानी का ठहराव
बेंगलूर राजधानी का कैंट स्टेशन पर ठहराव हो सकता है। इसका प्रस्ताव जोन द्वारा रेलवे बोर्ड के पास भेज दिया गया है। वहीं, यात्रियों की मांग पर इलाहाबाद-नई दिल्ली दुरंतो एक्सप्रेस अब शनिवार के बदले रविवार को चलेगी।
ग्वालियर व कानपुर के प्लेटफॉर्म पर स्वचलित सीढि़यां
आगरा कैंट के बाद ग्वालियर व कानपुर के प्लेटफॉर्म पर स्वचलित सीढि़यों की सुविधा उपलब्ध कराई जाएगी। इसके आदेश जारी हो गए हैं। इससे पहले महाप्रबंधक ने कैंट स्टेशन पर स्वचलित सीढि़यों का उद्घाटन किया। फिर उन्होंने ईदगाह स्टेशन का निरीक्षण किया। अफसरों ने पौधरोपण भी किया।

गुरु का ताल पर अंडरपाथ की मांग
कुशवाहा, शाक्य, मौर्य, सैनी महासभा के प्रतिनिधिमंडल ने महाप्रबंधक से मुलाकात की और गुरु का ताल आरओबी पर अंडरपाथ के निर्माण की मांग की। प्रबंधक राजेश कुमार ने कहा कि हर दिन सैकड़ों की तादाद में लोग रेल लाइन क्रॉस करते हैं। इससे दुर्घटना की आशंका है। प्रतिनिधिमंडल में राजपाल सिंह, अमर सिंह, फूल सिंह, नरेंद्र सिंह, योगेंद्र कुमार शामिल रहे।

The establishment of railway zonal headquarters in Visakhapatnam is a must to ensure development of the region, says Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Panchayat Raj V. Kishore Chandra Deo.His proposal for relocation of South Eastern Railway (SER) zone headquarters in Bhubaneswar and shifting of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) zone headquarters from Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam is seen as a viable solution to end the decade-long injustice suffered by Waltair Division under the ECoR dispensation.While the proposal is being hailed by the people in Visakhapatnam region, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has raked up an ‘unnecessary controversy’ saying that Odisha would not allow shifting of the headquarters. Kolkata is the headquarters for both Eastern Railway (ER) zone and SER. Kolkata is situated in the eastern part of the country and cannot claim to be a part of South Eastern Region. The reshuffling of zones will ensure equitable growth of both Andhra and Bhubaneswar.“Vishakhapatnam is situated at the centre of the east coast between Kolkata and Chennai. The ECoR headquarters, which should have been located in Vishakhapatnam, was unfortunately established in Bhubaneswar. The SER headquarters should be shifted to Bhubaneswar with the Khurda Division attached to it and ECoR headquarters must be shifted to Visakhapatnam with the addition of Vijayawada Division in lieu of Khurda Division,” Mr. Deo has written to the Antony Committee.

“If they (Odisha leaders) are so attached to the name (ECoR) let them retain it. Waltair Division must be de-linked from ECoR and a new zone can be formed with headquarters in Visakhapatnam, with the addition of Vijayawada and Guntur Divisions to it,” Mr. Deo has told The Hindu over phone from Delhi, when his attention has been drawn to the issue.

Other proposals

Several proposals related to Visakhapatnam that have already been announced in the successive railway budgets have not materialised so far. These include construction of a railway line that could spur the development of the tribal areas, announced in the budget two years ago and introduction of a second train to Araku, announced by former Railway Minister Mamata Bannerjee.

Construction of four additional platforms at Visakhapatnam station, for which a survey has already been made, laying of a third line from Visakhapatnam to Gopalapatnam are some of the other pending proposals.

The Malabar Rail Users’ Association (MRUA) has appealed the Southern Railway authorities to make alternative arrangements for alleviating the struggle of passengers ahead of beginning the proposed track renovation works from September 15. The renovation work will result in the closure of Shornur junction for nearly 22 days amounting to the cancellation of 14 passenger train services and the rescheduling of several other trains, they pointed out. The association leaders headed by MRUA chairman U.K. Damodaran also submitted a memorandum to the railways on the issue. —Staff Reporter

Dehradun: Accusing the Centre of failing to address their concerns, members of the Northern Railway Men's Union (NRMU), Dehradun, staged a dharna at the railway station here yesterday.The protesters alleged that the new pension scheme introduced by the Centre was not employee friendly and must be scrapped. They demanded reinstatement of the old pension scheme.They also resented reduction in bonus.The union members resorted to sloganeering against the Centre. Ugrasen Singh, Hari Om Singh, PK Chaubey, RC Yadav, Mukesh Chaturvedi and Prem Kishore Raturi were prominent among the protesters.

South Central Railway will run 104 special trains for Dussehra and Diwali for the convenience of the passengers.  These will run between Secunderabad-Vijayawada, Secunderabad-Mumbai, Secunderabad-Kolkata and Kachiguda-Mangalore. Hyderabad: South Central Railway decided to run 104 special trains for Dussehra and Diwali festivals.  These trains will run between Secunderabad-Vijayawada, Secunderabad-Gowhati, Secunderabad-Mumbai, Secunderabad-Kolkata, Kachiguda-Mangalore and Tirupati and Aurangabad. This was informed by south central railway CPRO K. Sambasiva Rao.

Aurangabad-Tirupati services via Secunderabad – 18 services

Train number 07405 special trains will start from Aurangabad on 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th October and 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th dates at 6.40 pm and reach Tirupati the next day at 7.00 pm. 07406 number trains will start from Tirupati on 5th, 12th, 189th, 26th of October and 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of November at 9.15 pm and reach Aurangabad the next night at 8.30 pm. Rameswaram:  Fishermen in Rameswaram, Mandapam and Pamban have come under one umbrella to stage a rail roko agitation at Pamban on Thursday, demanding the release of 41 fishermen from Rameswaram and 35 from Pamban lodged in Sri Lankan prisons for more than a month.

Leaders of 11 associations in Rameswaram, seven in Mandapam and three in Pamban met on Saturday and decided to launch the agitation in Pamban at 3 p.m. on Thursday and block the Tirupathi Express, scheduled to leave Rameswaram at 4 p.m., P. Sesu Raja, district secretary, Tamil Nadu Coastal Mechanised Boat Fishermen Association, said.

“The agitation is to draw the attention of the Central and State governments to secure the release of fishermen from Sri Lankan’s jails and to protect the livelihood of the island’s fishermen,” he said, adding the entire fishing community, including women and children, would take part in the agitation.

He said fishermen of both Rameswaram and Pamban had been on an indefinite strike for more than a week protesting against the extension of the judicial remand of the fishermen, arrested by the Lankan Navy for alleged illegal fishing in their waters, but Indian authorities took no efforts to secure their release.

Traditional Rights

The agitation would also demand their traditional rights to fish in the Palk Bay, he noted.

As the fishing activities came to a standstill, a section of the fishermen moved to Kerala, Mangalore and other places, while others were pledging their jewellery to meets both ends meet, he said.

Mr.Raja said the leaders would announce the next course of agitation if the fishermen were not released.

The Lankan courts extended the remand of the Rameswaram fishermen till September 20 and Pamban fishermen till September 23.

Meanwhile, country boat fishermen in Mandapam abstained from fishing on Monday, expressing solidarity with Rameswaram and Pamban fishermen.

Work on the proposed new road overbridge (ROB) at Viralimalai Road intersection near the Railway Junction in Tiruchi is set to takeoff in the next three to four months as the Highways Department finally called for tenders for the project recently.

The project has been in the planning stage for the past three to four years. The new multilevel ROB will replace the existing narrow bridge that has turned a traffic bottleneck in the city. The State government had sanctioned the ROB at an estimated cost of Rs.74 crore. The ROB would run 1.8 km. The existing bridge, leading from the Aristo Hotel Traffic Island and the Railway Junction, runs across railway lines leading to the Chennai Bypass and the Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway (NH 45-B).

It leads to the Central Bus Stand and the Tiruchi-Dindigul National Highway (NH 45). The narrow bridge has steep gradients and the police in recent years had to install multiple signals to regulate the traffic flow across the bridge.

Notwithstanding the traffic signals and the policemen on duty, chaos prevails on the bridge as vehicles pile up from different directions. To ease the congestion, the Projects Wing of the Highways Department came up with a plan to build a trestle and embankment bridge. The bridge has been designed taking into account the traffic volume at the Aristo Hotel Junction, the Railway Station Junction, and the Madurai highway Junctions. The ROB will have seven arms each with two to three lanes leading towards the Chennai Bypass, Aristo Hotel Junction, Dindigul Highway, Central Bus Stand, Railway junction, Madurai Highway, and a new road to be laid near the MSP camp.

The arms towards Chennai Bypass Road and Aristo Hotel junction would have three lanes each at the higher and lower levels. Service roads would be provided at the ground-level along all important arms.

Last week, the Highways Department had called for tenders for the first stage of the project under which a new three-lane ROB with five arms will be built at a cost of Rs. 44.28 crore adjacent to the existing bridge. “Traffic will continue to the allowed through the existing bridge until the structure was ready. In the next stage, the old bridge will be dismantled and a new bridge with two arms will be built in its place.

Work on the project will begin after the completion of the tendering process in the next three months,” said an officer in the Highways Department. The Railways will build the portion of the ROB across the tracks.

The Highways Department recently completed the demarcation of land to be acquired or alienated by different government agencies for the ROB and the district administration is actively pursuing the acquisition/alienation process.

About 4,600 square metres of private lands are to be acquired for the project apart from alienation/transfer of lands from Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion grounds (about 18,500 square metres), the Railways (about 7,300 square metres), the P&T Quarters (about 350 square metres) and Defence lands (about 2,500 square metres). Since most of the land required is held by government agencies, land acquisition is not expected to pose much of a problem for the project, unlike several other ROB projects that ran into land acquisition delays in the city.
