GUWAHATI, Sept 11 – The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) today said it has started running 76 trips by four weekly special trains to Chennai, Chandigarh, Varanasi and Yesvantpur to clear the extra rush of passengers during the upcoming Puja festive season.
The 02508 will depart from Kamakhya to Chennai every Monday at 2 pm between September 9 and November 25, while the 02507 will leave from Chennai to Kamakhya every Thursday at 11 am between September 12 and November 28.

The train will stop at Bongaigaon, New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, Rampurhat, Asansol, Khurda Road, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada and will be composed of one AC-2 tier coach, one AC-3 tier coach, seven sleepers, four general second class and two SLR/SLRD coaches.

The 05903 will depart from Dibrugarh to Chandigarh every Friday 8.40 am between October 11 to November 29, while the 05904 will depart from Chandigarh to Dibrugarh every Sunday 11.15 pm between October 13 and December 1.

It will halt at New Tinsukia, Dimapur, Lumding, Guwahati, new Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Muzaffarpur and Lucknow among other stations and will consist of one AC-2 tier coach, one AC-3 tier, nine sleepers, four general second class and two SLR/SLRD coaches.

The 02552 from Kamakhya will depart every Wednesday at 2 pm to Yesvantpur between October 2 and November 27. The 02551 will leave from Yesvantpur for Kamakhya every Saturday at 8.30 am between October 5 and November 30.

The train will stop at Rangia, New Jalpaiguri, Malda Town, Asansol, Bhubaneshwar, Vizianagaram, Vijayawada Junction and Chennai Central and it will consist of one AC first class coach, besides one AC-2 tier, one AC-3 tier, six sleepers, six general second class and two GSLR coaches.

The 05653 will depart from Guwahati to Varanasi every Saturday at 4.45 pm between October 5 and November 30, while the 05652 will leave from Varanasi to Guwahati every Sunday at 9.05 pm between October 6 and December 1.

The Guwahati-Varanasi Weekly Special will go via Rangia, New Bongaigaon, New Alipurduar, New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Begusarai, Patna and Mughalsarai. There will be one AC-2 tier, one AC-3 tier, 14 sleepers, four general second class and two SLR/SLRD coaches in the train.

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs V K Deo's demand to shift East Coast Zonal Headquarters (ECoR) of the Railways from here to Vishakhapatanam sparked protests in Odisha with the ruling BJD announcing agitations and BJP criticizing it today.

Deo in a recent letter to A K Antony headed committee, which is looking into the demand for a zonal headquarters of Indian Rails, has suggested to shift the headquarters of ECoR to Vishakhapatnam.

The union minister while speaking to a local TV channel yesterday argued that Vishakhapatnam was situated at the Centre of the east coast between Kolkata and Chennai.

Deo also suggested that the South Eastern Zonal Railway Headquarters should be shifted from Kolkata to Bhubaneswar as "by no stretch of imagination can Kolkata be said to be any part of the South Eastern region."

Terming Deo's statement as a conspiracy against Odisha, Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya today said "I can't understand what the need for such a proposal is. We strongly condemn it and we'll raise voice if the Centre moves ahead with the idea."

BJD Youth Wing President Sanjay Dasburma announced that the party workers and supporters would hold peaceful one-hour agitation before all railway stations in the state on September 12, 13 and 14. "The people of Odisha will not tolerate such an idea of Deo as they have got the ECoR after a long struggle," he said.

"This is a conspiracy of the BJD and the Congress who have a tacit understanding to raise frivolous issues to divert people's attention from serious matters," a release issued by the state BJP said

South Central Railway will run the following Special Trains between Hyderabad-Kakinada Town  in order to clear extra rush of passengers as per the following schedule:-

1.Special Trains between Hyderabad-Kakinada Town via Guntur (2 Services)

      Train No. 07101 Hyderabad-Kakinada Town Special train will depart Hyderabad at 22 40 hrso­n 13thSeptember, 2013, arrive/depart Secunderabad at 23 10/23 15 hrs and arrive Kakinada Town at 09 45 hrs o­n the next day.

    In the return direction, Train No. 07102 Kakinada Town - Hyderabad Special trainwill depart Kakinada Town at 18 00 hrso­n 14thSeptember, 2013 and arrive / depart Secunderabad at 06 00/06 05 hrs and arrive Hyderabad at 06 40 hrs o­n the next day.

    Enroute, these trains will also stop at Nalgonda, Miryalguda, Nadikude, Piduguralla, Sattenapalle, Guntur, Vijayawada, Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Nidadavolu, Rajahmundry, Anaparti and Samalkot stations in both the directions.

These trains will have 15 coaches viz., seven Sleeper Class, six General Second Class and two Second Class Luggage Cum Brake van Coaches.

2.Special Trains between Kakinada Town-Hyderabad via Gudivada, Bhimavaram & Guntur (2 Services)

Train No. 07201 Kakinada Town-Hyderabad Special Trainwill depart Kakinada Town at 16 00 hrso­n 13th September 2013arrive / depart Secunderabad at 04 15/04 20 hrs o­n the next day and arrive Hyderabad at 04 45 hrs.

In the return direction, Train No. 07202 Hyderabad -Kakinada Town Special trainwill depart Hyderabad at 21 00 hrso­n 14th September 2013,arrive / depart Secunderabad at 21 30/21 35 hrs and arrive Kakinada Town at 09 30 hrs o­n the next day.

Enroute, these trains will also stop at Samalkot, Anaparti, Rajahmundry, Nidadavolu, Tanuku, Bhimavaram Town, Akivedu, Kaikalur, Gudivada, Vijayawada, Guntur, Sattenapalle, Piduguralla, Nadikude, Miryalaguda and Nalgonda stations in both the directions.

        These trains will have 18 coaches viz., o­ne AC II Tier, o­ne AC III Tier, ten Sleeper Class, four General Second Class and two Second Class Luggage Cum Brake van Coaches.

To clear extra rush during the festive season and facilitate passengers in view of ensuing o­nam festival, o­neAC Super Fast special train will be run for the benefit of passengers from New Delhi to Kochuvelli via Vasai Road station o­n 12th September, 2013.


Train No. 04096 New Delhi – Kochuvelli Super Fast Special train will depart from New Delhi at 23.30 hrs o­n 12th September, 2013 (Thursday) and reach Vasai Road at 21.00 hrs. o­n 13th September, 2013 (Friday), and will reach Kochuvelli at 02.45 hrs. o­n Saturday. This train will run o­nly o­n i.e 12th September, 2013 from New Delhi.



In return Direction train no 04095 Kochuvelli– New Delhi AC Super Fast Special train will depart from Kochuvelliat 09.40 hrs o­n 17th September, 2013 (Tuesday) and reach Vasai Road at 16.30 hrs o­n 18th September, 2013 (Wednesday), and will reach New Delhi at 15.20 hrs. o­n Thursday. This train will run o­nly for o­ne day i.e 17th September, 2013 from Kochuvelli.



The train will halt at Mathura, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Nagda , Ratlam, Dahod, Godhara, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Vapi, Vasai Road, Panvel, Roha, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pernem, Madgaon, Karwar, Udupi, Manglore Jn. , Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur Jn., Thrisur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Tiruvalla, Chengammur, Kayankulam and Quilon stations in both direction .



The train will have Ist AC, AC II Tier & AC III Tier coaches.

Due to heavy rush in view of o­nam festival being celebrated in Kerala, South Central Railway will augment Train No. 07166/07165 Hyderabad - Kollam - Hyderabad Special Train by attaching three extra Sleeper Class Coaches as per the details mentioned below:-

1) Train No. 07166 Hyderabad-Kollam Special train departing Hyderabad o­n 14th September 2013 will be augmented with three extra Sleeper Class Coaches

2)  Train No. 07165 Kollam-Hyderabad Special train departing Kollam o­n 16th September 2013 will be augmented with three extra Sleeper Class Coaches.


These extra Sleeper Class Coaches will benefit more than 200 waitlisted passengers by confirmation of berths in each direction.

New Delhi: The Himachal Pradesh Government today sought a special assistance from the Centre for development projects underway in the state and requested Rs 500 crore to strengthen infrastructure network.In his meeting with Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram here, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh also requested that the Chandigarh-Baddi railway line be declared as a project of national importance, considering the geographical and strategic importance.Virbhadra urged the Union Minister to speed up the work on the pending Bhanupalli-Bilaspur railway line and provide funds for the rail project at the earliest. He reminded Chidambaram that it was decided by the Prime Minister’s Office in August 2007 that the state government would provide 25 per cent of the funds and the rest by the Railways for the project.Since Independence, the state has seen the construction of just 44-km rail line. Referring to the report submitted by the Central team on the loss caused by floods in the state, Virbhadra asked the Centre to expedite early release of funds so that development work in the flood-affected areas could be undertaken.

To take the industrialisation process in the state forward, he requested that the industrial package be extended till 2020. He clarified that providing incentive to the state would not affect investment in neighbouring states and as against the proposal of Rs 48,000-crore investment, only Rs 14,000-crore investment by industrial houses had materialised.The state also requested the release of Rs 2,100 crore for the annual plan of 2013-14 in view of the financial constraints and the Planning Commission’s nod to enhanced funds for the plan period.

State Revenue Minister Kaul Singh and Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri accompanied the Chief Minister in the meeting.

Three days after train theft victim Aarti Gholapkar succumbed to injuries last weekend, the Mumbai Police wants CCTV cameras on all local trains.

Dombivli resident Gholapkar, 43, was a single mother, and was returning home after work at a shirt-manufacturing unit in Pawane MIDC, when an unidentified person struck her with a stick that had a sharp hook at one end in a bid to snatch her handbag, around 7.30 pm Thursday.

Gholapkar had boarded a Thanebound train at Koparkhairane, and the incident took place near Ghansoli station. The victim, standing on the footboard of a ladies compartment, lost her balance and fell off the train. She slipped into coma on the spot, even as the thief took away her jewellery and money. Gholapkar died on Saturday.

This was the fourth case of attack on women commuters on local trains in the last three weeks, and the underfire Mumbai Police wrote to both Central and Western Railway a couple of days ago, seeking a CCTV camera surveillance system that will cover at least the ladies compartments.

Barely hours before Gholapkar was attacked last Thursday, a robber hit three women travelling on the footboard of a crowded local at Chinchpokli with a stick, and escaped with a mobile phone dropped by one of them.

Eight days later, a Nalla Sopara resident, Rupali Shinde, was hit on the head by an unidentified man while she was boarding the train at Goregaon railway station around 8 pm.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Protection & Security) Madhukar Pandey confirmed the police department wrote to the railways regarding the feasibility of CCTV cameras on trains, but refused to give out details.

The Mumbai Police says the CCTV surveillance has worked very well for the BEST. "The BEST has a fleet of more than 6,000 buses, of which around 3,500 have CCTV cameras. Besides helping in identifying the suspects, the cameras act as deterrent. They have been a great help in solving cases of thefts and sexual harassment on buses," a senior police officer said.

The BEST caters to 40 lakh commuters every day, and the local trains carry 60 lakh passengers. "The BEST has covered more than 50 per cent of its buses with CCTV cameras, and such surveillance has been made mandatory for the metro rakes," the officer said.

Every time there has been a case of robbery or assault on local trains, the Government Railway Police, in-charge of security of the suburban rail network along with the railways, points to the lack of manpower. After the attack on Michelle Marks, the GRP demanded 900 personnel.

The railway officials said they did install CCTV cameras on some locals on an experimental basis, but "things didn't work out". A senior railway official said, "Local trains are parked at desolated spots in the night, and CCTV cameras are often stolen. Besides, many women commuters objected to the cameras, saying it was intrusion in privacy. Then there is the cost factor. Such surveillance is very, very expensive."

Another official said women themselves said they preferred cops in the compartments, rather than CCTV cameras. "During one of our meetings with the commuters, several women said they were not comfortable with the idea of being filmed. Recently, the Western Railway installed CCTV cameras in few of their rakes, but dropped the idea as the results weren't satisfactory," the official said.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways is fast-tracking its land monetisation plans of generating over Rs 1000 crore of revenue from railway land. It has prepared a focused action plan for developing 75 Multi Functional Complexes (MFC) it has identified as potential revenue earners. It plans to leverage these sites in the current financial year and the bidding process for which will be initiated in phases.

So far, nine bids have been invited in the current year for developing 43 MFCs across India in stations like Dehradun, Ujjain, Gulbarga, Vijayawada, Amritsar, Amethi and Chandigarh. There has been very good response for the last bidding carried out in Western Railway in which a total of 25 financial bids were received, said the railway ministry statement.

The total present value of the lease premium and annual lease rent received for MFCs at eight stations is Rs. 20.27 crore from these sites. This is much more than the minimum expectation of the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory authority established by the Ministry for this purpose.

RLDA is holding a pre-bid conference at Hyderabad tomorrow to invite bids for commercial development of MFCs at eight stations in regions of tourist and religious significance in the state. These eight complexes will have facilities such as shopping, food stalls or restaurants, book stalls, ATMs, medicines and variety stores, budget hotels and so on.

According to the railways, several leading brands, like Pantaloon, Cafe Coffee Day, Woodland, have evinced interest. However, while MFCs at 26 railway stations have already been developed jointly by IRCON ( Indian Railway Construction Company Limited) and RITES, the Railways' consultancy organisation, they are still waiting for being leased out.
