GORAKHPUR: The Railway Board has granted Rs 31 crore more to NER for the completion of the patch doubling work.The work will be completed by November, 2013. Patch Doubling work has been completed in Lucknow Division of North Eastern Railway but the work is still to be completed at Varanasi division of NER due to insufficient fund.Talking to TOI, KK Atal, GM, NER, said, "Railway Board has accepted our proposal and granted Rs 31 crore more for the completion of patch doubling work. In lack of sufficient budget, the station yard remodeling work was being affected and was causing inconvenience to passengers so we provided fund for remodeling from budget of other departments which in turn hit the patch doubling work. With the board having granted Rs 31 crore the patch doubling work will be completed on time."The yard remodeling work at Gorakhpur railway station has been completed and the work of non-interlocking will be done from September 26 September to October 6. During this period of 11 days, 107 trails will be cancelled and around half-dozen trains will be diverted.Most of the trains will be run through nearby stations. The GM, NER, also reviewed the remodeling work and non-interlocking work and had a discussion about the difficulties of passengers with head of departments and senior officials.On the issue of unmanned crossing, KK Atal said, "We have conducted a survey of all unmanned crossings. The traffic on various crossing between Deoria and Bhatni of Varanasi division has increased in recent years. As the chances of accidents at heavy traffic bearing unmanned crossing are more, we'll make them manned soon. We are also making efforts to organize all unmanned railway crossings by 2015 and we're also running various awareness programs in this regard." There are total 2,421 unmanned railway crossings in all the three divisions of NER including Lucknow, Varanasi and Izzatnagar.On Wednesday, the GM also inspected the newly constructed platform parallel to platform number 2, concrete sleeper at platform number1 and construction work at platform number 8 and 9. Anup Kumar, DRM, NER, RV Singh, COM and Amit Singh, GM, secretary were also present at the occasion. |

With an aim to provide better passenger amenities and comfort to the commuters and also to avoid rush in other trains, Railways have decided to run a special train between Hatia and Yesvantpur via Sambalpur and Rayagada.08637 Hatia-Yesvantpur special train will leave Hatia at 1815hrs on every Saturday between 7th September to 26th October 2013 and will arrive at Yesvantpur at 0500hrs on every Monday. In the return direction, 08638 Yesvantpur-Hatia special train will leave Yesvantpur at 0030hrs on every Tuesday (Midnight of Monday) between 10th September to 29th October 2013 and will arrive at Hatia at 1330hrs on every Wednesday. This special train has one composite coach of both First Class Ac & AC-2 tier, two AC-3 tiers, Seven Sleeper Classes, Three General Second Class Coaches and Two Guard cum Luggage Vans in its composition having stoppages at Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh Road, Bolangir, Titilagarh, Kesinga, Muniguda, Rayagada, Parvatipuram, Bobbili, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Duvvada between Hatia and Yesvantpur. |

The Ernakulam Permanent Lok Adalat (PLA) on Thursday directed the Railways and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation to file statements answering the allegations that Railways were not taking steps to prevent preparation, handling, and supply of food in an unhygienic manner at railway stations and on trains.The petition was filed by lawyer D.B. Binu. According to him, the personnel engaged in the preparation,and supply of food for Railways did not have health cards and even proper uniforms. |

With a view to provide more comfortable journey to the passengers and to avoid rush, Railways have decided to augment one AC Chair Car coach and one Second Class Chair Car Coach permanently in 12821/12822 Howrah-Puri-Howrah Dhauli Express w.e.f. 9th September from Howrah and w.e.f. 10thSeptember 2013 from Puri. After augmentation of two additional coaches, Howrah-Puri-Howrah Dhauli Express will run with 19 coaches instead of earlier 17 coaches. |

VARANASI: To facilitate the physically challenged passengers, Northern Railways will be constructing a ramp on each platform of Cantonment Railway Station for their convenience to commute easily between platforms. This was announced by ADRM, Northern Railways RK Lal and senior divisional commercial manager, AK Srivastava who inspected the Station on Thursday. The officials also said that the station will soon get Electronic Ticket Vending Machine (ETVM) in its premises. Passengers can avail this service for generating general tickets too.Meanwhile, officials also visited the circulating area, platforms, and inspected the cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the station premises. They emphasised on generating amenities including drinking water and good sanitary conditions in the station. |

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a bid to provide better passenger comfort to travellers and also avoid rush in other South-bound trains, the Indian Railways has decided to run a special pair of trains to Secunderabad and Kollam.Train number 08569 Visakhapatnam-Kollam special will leave Visakhapatnam at 9am every Sunday and Thursday between September 8 and September 29 and arrive at Kollam at 2.10pm the following day.In the return direction, 08570 Kollam-Visakhapatnam special train will leave Kollam at 9pm every Monday and Friday between September 9 and September 30 and arrive at Visakhapatnam at 1.35am every Wednesday and Sunday.This special train has one AC-2 tier and AC-3 tier coach each, seven sleeper class coaches, six general second class coaches and two guard-cum-luggage vans. The train will stop at important stations between Visakhapatnam and Kollam. |
