LUCKNOW: A seven-member gang was busted by special task force (STF) sleuths on Sunday for allegedly leaking question paper of the exam for Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables. The seven were arrested from Muzaffarnagar and Delhi in separately held operations. The sleuths received a tip-off that some persons were in the process of providing solved question papers to candidates for money. The gang used to provide sophisticated telecommunication device to candidates before they entered the examination hall and told them the correct answers. Alok Singh, STF deputy superintendent confirmed that seven persons were arrested, including Abrar, Vineet, Kuldeep, Sandeep, SubhashTomar, VivekTomar and Rahul. The sleuths claimed that question paper, OMR (optical mark response) answersheet, admit card and some items related to the examination were recovered from the group. The sleuths were provided name of coaching centre owner from Meerut and said that further probe was on.

BANGALORE: Railways and Karnataka government today decided to spend an additional Rs 600 crore in the current financial year to expedite work on rail projects in the state.Union Railway Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge told reporters after a meeting with senior Railway and State government officials that the Centre would give an additional Rs 300 crore for the state, which would also chip in with an equal amount to take up those projects on a "war-footing"."It's now possible to spend an additional Rs 600 crore this year," Kharge, who hails from the State, said."We have decided to give more money to some urgent works and complete them in eight to ten months," he added.The State government has promised to resolve disputes relating to land acquisition that hampered rail expansion on a priority basis, the Minister said.Karnataka has a share of Rs 900 crore in the Union Railway budget 2013-14 for rail projects and if one were to include electrification and doubling of tracks, it would top Rs 1200 Rs 1300 crore, according to him.The rail projects which would be taken up for early completion include Kadur-Chikmagalur, Kolar-Chikkaballapura, Gadwal-Raichur, and Bidar-Gulbarga.Kharge also ruled out increasing rail fares this year in view of diesel price hike."There is no such proposal, and fares would not be raised. We will take on ourselves the burden vis-a-vis any amount of increase in diesel and petrol prices and will not pass it on to passengers. So, as of now, there is no increase in rail fares this year," the Minister said.

Meanwhile, a senior Railway Board official said server capacity of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is being increased so that the "problem of not getting connection (for ticket reservation) will get resolved".

Karnataka PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa, Chief Secretary S V Ranganath, Principal Secretaries of Finance, Revenue, Infrastructure and Urban Development, and key officials of Central Railway, South Central Railway and South Western Railway were present at the review meeting.

South Western Railways has increased the frequency of the following trains, but the actual dates of commencement of these services will be announced later.

*  Train Nos 12629/12630 Yeshwantpur-Nizamuddin Sampark Kranthi Express which is running two days a week will run four days a week with two services extended to Chandigarh.

* Train Nos 56221/56222 Bangalore City-Tumkur City Passenger and Train Nos 56525/56526 Bangalore City-Tumkur Passenger which has been running six days a week will run daily. Revision in timings with effect from July 1.

In the return direction, Train No.16557 will depart Mysore at 2.25 pm instead of 4.25 pm as at present and arrive Bangalore City at 5.10 pm instead of 7.20 pm.

* Train Nos.17303/17304  Mysore-Yeshwantpur Malgudi Express: Train No. 17303/17304 will run with the revised Train Nos. as Train Nos.16023/16024. Accordingly, Train No.16023 will depart from Mysore at 8.15 am instead of 12 noon and arrive at Yeshwantpur at 11.30 am instead of 3.40 pm. In the return direction, Train No.16024 will depart Yeshwantpur at 1.30 pm instead of 11.20 am and arrive at Mysore at 5 pm instead of 2.50 pm. 

*  Train Nos.16535/16536 Yeshwantpur-Solapur Gol Gumbaz Express: Train No.16535/16536 Yeshwantpur-Solapur-Yeshwantpur Gol Gumbaz Express will run to Mysore as a Special Train Nos. 06559/06560 Mysore-Yeshwantpur-Mysore Special. These trains will run in the path of extension of Train Nos.16535/16536 to Mysore. Accordingly, Train No.16535 will depart  Yeshwantpur at 7.30 pm instead of 7.45 pm, and arrive at Solapur at 1.30 pm (no change). In the return direction, Train No.16536 will depart  Solapur at 2.40 pm instead of 3.35 pm as at present and arrive at Yeshwantpur at 7.50 am instead of 9.15 am, the next day. 

Train No.06560 will depart Yeshwantpur at 7.55 am and arrive at Mysore at 11.15 am on the same day. In the return direction, Train No.06559 will depart Mysore at 3.30 pm and arrive at Yeshwantpur at 7.15 pm.

*  Train No 16591/16592 Hubli-Bangalore City Hampi Daily Express: Train No.16591 will run to Mysore as a Special Train Nos. 06557/06558 till extension of Train Nos.
16591/16592 is done.  The Train No.16591 Hubli-Bangalore Hampi Express will depart Hubli at 6 pm and arrive at Bangalore City at 6.10 am  the next day.  The Special Train No.06557 from Bangalore City to Mysore will depart Bangalore City at 6.30 am and arrive at Mysore at 9.40 am.

In the return direction, Special Train No. 06558 Mysore-Bangalore Special will depart from Mysore at 6.15 pm and arrive at Bangalore City at 9.50 pm. Train No. 16592 will depart B’ lore City 10 pm and arrive at Hubli at 11am, the next day.

*  Train Nos.17307/17308 Yeshwantpur-Bagalkot Basava Express to Mysore:  Train Nos. 17307/17308 will run to Mysore as Special Train Nos. 07307/07308 between Mysore-Bangalore-Mysore Specials till extension of Train No.17307/17308 is done.

Accordingly, Train No.07308 will depart at Yeshwantpur at 10.15 am and arrive at Mysore at 1.50 pm on the same day. In the return direction, Train No.07307 will depart Mysore at 1.30 pm and arrive at Yeshwantpur at 5.10 pm on the same day

Services revision

*  The services of Train No. 12692 Sri Satya Sai Prashanti Nilayam-Chennai Express  from Sri Satya Sai Prashanti Nilayam will be revised to run on Saturdays instead of Sundays.
Cancellation

*  On increase in frequency of Train No.16315/16316 Bangalore City-Kochuveli-Bangalore City Express from tri-weekly to daily from Kochuv- eli end from September 4, 2013 and from Bangalore City end from September 5, 2013, the existing Train nos. 16321/ 16322 Trivandrum-Bangalore City-Trivandrum Weekly train will be cancelled, with effect from Trivandrum end from September 4, 2013 and from Bangalore City end from September 5, 2013.

Mohammad Sultan’s 30-year-old dream came to fruition, when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off the train between this highway town in Jammu region to Qazigund in Kashmir.Sultan, 80, whose wrinkled face bears testimony to his hard life, was among hundreds of eager residents of Banihal who had assembled at the railway station way before the scheduled time for the first passenger train to chug towards Qazigund.“The first time I heard that there is a possibility of a train coming to our town was back in 1983. I thought, if the tracks could be extended from Jammu to Udhampur, why not up to Banihal,”  Sultan told PTI during his journey to Qazigund.The Prime Minister, accompanied by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and a host of other dignitaries including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, inaugurated the 18 km long Banihal-Qazigund rail section last Wednesday. The rail link will provide an all-weather connectivity between Banihal and Qazigund.

The octogenarian said he had lost hope of ever stepping on a train, as the project was getting delayed.

“At my age, hopes are not fulfilled very often. But, I kept hoping that one day I will board a train here,” he said.

It was not the first travel to Kashmir for  Sultan, but as he puts it, “this is royal-class“.

“Whenever we would step out of Banihal, we had to look skyward for impending weather changes. While winters are harsh due to snowfall, summers can get tricky owing to landslides triggered by rains.

One was sure of leaving the town but not about the date of return,” he said.

Sultan is happy that travel to Kashmir will be a lot safer now than the treacherous bus journey.

South Western Railways has increased the frequency of the following trains, but the actual dates of commencement of these services will be announced later.

*  Train No 16591/16592 Hubli-Bangalore City Hampi Daily Express: Train No.16591 will run to Mysore as a Special Train Nos. 06557/06558 till extension of Train Nos.
16591/16592 is done.  The Train No.16591 Hubli-Bangalore Hampi Express will depart Hubli at 6 pm and arrive at Bangalore City at 6.10 am  the next day.  The Special Train No.06557 from Bangalore City to Mysore will depart Bangalore City at 6.30 am and arrive at Mysore at 9.40 am.

In the return direction, Special Train No. 06558 Mysore-Bangalore Special will depart from Mysore at 6.15 pm and arrive at Bangalore City at 9.50 pm. Train No. 16592 will depart B’ lore City 10 pm and arrive at Hubli at 11am, the next day.

*  Train Nos.17307/17308 Yeshwantpur-Bagalkot Basava Express to Mysore:  Train Nos. 17307/17308 will run to Mysore as Special Train Nos. 07307/07308 between Mysore-Bangalore-Mysore Specials till extension of Train No.17307/17308 is done.

Accordingly, Train No.07308 will depart at Yeshwantpur at 10.15 am and arrive at Mysore at 1.50 pm on the same day. In the return direction, Train No.07307 will depart Mysore at 1.30 pm and arrive at Yeshwantpur at 5.10 pm on the same day

Sowmya Ranjan Mahapatra, accused of duping two businessman of over Rs.1.32 crore, was detained by immigration authorities at Chennai airport when he flew in from Singapore

An Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer dismissed from service, Sowmya Ranjan Mahapatra, accused of duping two businessman of over Rs. 1.32 crore, was arrested by the city police on Monday.He had been operating from Singapore for the past few months.The Immigration authorities at Chennai airport detained him two days ago based on a look-out notice issued by the Hyderabad city police when he had flown in from Singapore. The Tukaramgate police of Hyderabad took him into custody from the airport authorities. He was brought to city and remanded in judicial custody after being presented in a local court.Mahapatra worked with the South Central Railway (SCR), Secunderabad, for some time in 2004 before being transferred to the South West Central Railway at Hubli. Following allegations about misconduct and corruption, he was removed from service there.

“Since he worked in a top position in railways in Secunderabad, he came in contact with many businessmen. Dropping names of some IAS and IPS officers, he used to claim that he was well-connected with people in powerful positions,” Tukaramgate Inspector B. Sudarshan Reddy said.

He lured two businessmen, Narsaraju of Saidabad, and Venugopal of Gandhinagar, to join his business leading them to believe that he was into iron ore trade and that they can make huge money in a short span.

According to the police, he had collected Rs. 70 lakh and Rs. 62 lakh from Narsaraju and Venugopal, respectively.

Mahapatra started evading them after sometime. When Narsaraju pressurised him to return his money, the accused sent his partners – the father-son duo of Ibrahim and Yasin of Banjara Hills, to forcibly collect the business agreement papers, promissory notes and other documents from the former’s and threatened to kill him if he approached the police.
