When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi will flag off the train from Banihal in the Jammu region to Qazigund in the Kashmir valley tomorrow, not only will the century-old dream of rail connectivity be fulfilled partly, but it will also bring in more cheer to people of Kashmir who travel by train daily.The Railways is introducing four new trains in Kashmir which will chug between Banihal and Baramulla on a daily basis from June 27.“We will introduce four new trains between Banihal in Ramban district and Baramulla in north Kashmir from Thursday,” said a senior official of the Northern Railway. “The total number of trains which will operate here will now be 14. We are already running 10 trains,” he said.The official said the more number of trains would help them to cater to a heavy rush.“The four new trains have eight coaches and they will be able to meet the heavy rush,” he said. — TNS

Hazaribag: BabulalMarandi on Tuesday flagged off the first passenger train between Koderma and Nawadih on Koderma-Nawadih-Giridih railway track under Dhanbad division. The railway network - the foundation stone for which was laid by former prime minister AtalBihariVajpayee in 2005 - will help people of Koderma, Domchanch, Markacho, Maheshpu and Nawadih .The Rs 371.36-crore Koderma-Giridih track project, covering 111 km, was sanctioned and supposed to be commissioned by 2005-06. However, work could not b started due to lack of funds. Later, the Babulal Marandi government agreed to meet 50% of the project cost, which was escalated to Rs 787.87 crore due to the delay. The JVM-P chief had said the project would create new avenues for employment generation in the mineral-rich belt on the Grand Chord section of the East Central Railway, which could not be exploited earlier due to lack of rail connectivity.

DRM Sudhir Kumar, Dhanbad division, said all efforts are on to complete the line by December. The passenger train will have five compartments and will be hauled by diesel engine. It will make two trips everyday except Sunday. tnn

He said he was happy since it was during his tenure as central minister for environment and forest that the project came up for forest clearance. But he said that he would have been more happy had the entire Koderma-Giridih(111 KM) route been completed.

Unused (unreserved) tickets on which no reservation has been made:

If a ticket on which no reservation of a seat or berth has been made is presented for cancellation, refund of fare shall be made on every such ticket after deducting the clerkage.

Railway Boys Club, Pune thrashed Rajesh Pillay Academy (RPA) 5-1 in the 31st edition of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial hockey tournament being played at the Major Dhyan Chand hockey stadium.

Rajeev Bhatkar opened the scoring for Railway Boys as he guided a Ashish Bhosale pass into the net in the 20th minute. Akash Khaire then added a second in the 24th minute, tapping in a Sanju Menon pass. Khaire scored a second, the team's third, two minutes later as he converted a Rajeev Bhatkar pass.

Ankush Kamble replied with a field goal for RPA but it turned out to be nothing more than a consolatory strike. Khaire completed his hat-trick in the 48th minute and Vinit Nimal added a fifth soon after.

In the second match of the day, Super XI recorded a 2-1 victory over Metro SC. Super XI drew first blood through Santosh Musale who converted a Sachin Kamble pass in the 11th minute. Prashant Bhokre then scored his side's second in the 40th minute off a Nitin Salvi pass. Shailesh Gavare pulled one back for Metro SC in the 48th minute but the Super XI defence held strong for the remaining 22 minutes to claim full points. By virtue of their victory, Super XI and Railway Boys Club qualified for the quarter-finals.

On Wednesday, Pune City Police will take on Railway Police Line Boys while SRPF, Pune will face PCMC.

NEW DELHI: You can no longer cancel a train ticket 24 hours before your journey and still claim a full refund.

The railways ministry, which comprehensively revised ticket refund rules on Tuesday, said the move was aimed at stopping touts from selling cancelled tickets at high prices at the last moment and at giving waitlisted passengers a little extra time to comprehend whether they could undertake their journey.

The new rules will come into effect from July 1.

The railways said it had also reduced the time wherein a passenger could claim back 75 per cent of the booking amount. For this, passengers will now need to cancel tickets six hours prior to departure, two hours fewer than earlier.

If a ticket is presented for cancellation within six hours before the train's scheduled departure and up to two hours after the actual departure, the cancellation charge will be 50 per cent of the fare, subject to a minimum charge. Exiting rules allow the cancellation of tickets up to 12 hours after the train's departure if the journey distance is 500 km or more. Under the new rules, no refund will be granted on a reserved ticket surrendered for cancellation two hours after the train's actual departure.

The time for the filing of refund claims in case of unforeseen circumstances like a strike or any natural causes such as floods has also been reduced from 90 to 10 days of the train's departure.

According to the new rules, even those with waitlisted or RAC tickets will have to cancel their tickets three hours before actual departure to get a refund after the deduction of a clerkage charge of Rs 30.

No refund will be allowed two hours after the train's departure. Existing rules permit cancellation till three hours after departure.

Justifying the revision, the railway ministry said: "Railway Passengers (cancellation of ticket and refund of fare) Rules, 1998, have not been substantially revised in the last 15 years, during which a large number of changes have taken place in the ticketing system of Indian Railways."

Eastern Railway posted 19 per cent growth in passenger earnings to nearly Rs 321 crore during the first two months of this fiscal.

According to a press statement, ER earned Rs 269 crore from passenger traffic during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, ER registered about 6 per cent growth in earnings from penalties, to a little more than Rs 7 crore, as against Rs 6.75 crore, during the corresponding period of last year.

बुंदेलखंड के पिछड़ेपन को रेलवे भी अपनी योजनाओं से दूर नहीं कर पाया। मानिकपुर से झांसी व कानपुर को इलेक्ट्रिक लाइन से जोड़ने व दोहरीकरण के लिए सालों पहले सर्वे हो चुका था लेकिन बजट न मिलने के कारण यह कार्य अभी भी अधर में लटका है। ट्रेनों की संख्या बढ़ने से अब ट्रैफिक दबाव भी बढ़ गया है।
उत्तर मध्य रेलवे के अंतर्गत आने वाले मानिकपुर-झांसी के बीच की दूरी करीब 300 किमी. है जबकि मानिकपुर से कानपुर की लंबाई लगभग ढाई सौ किमी. है। इन दोनों लाइनों पर इलेक्ट्रिक ट्रेनें दौड़ाने के लिए पिछले वर्ष सर्वे हो चुका है। इसके पहले भी दो-तीन बार सर्वे कराया गया। रेलवे ने कार्य शुरू कराने की मंजूरी भी दे दी लेकिन अभी भी इसकी शुरुआत नहीं हो पाई। इसके पीछे मुख्य वजह पैसे का अभाव बताया जा रहा है। रेलवे अधिकारियों का कहना है कि कार्य की स्वीकृति तो मिल चुकी है लेकिन पैसे के बिना अभी भी इलेक्ट्रिक लाइन व दोहरीकरण का सपना पूरा नहीं हो पा रहा। जबकि पहले की तुलना अब सवारी ट्रेनों की संख्या भी बढ़ गई है। साथ ही मालगाड़ियों का भी आवागमन रहता है। ऐसे में अब रेलवे लाइन की दोहरीकरण की बेहद जरूरत बताई जा रही है।

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet is likely to consider the case of setting up of a company to implement the ambitious Rapid Rail projects in the national capital region (NCR), on Thursday. The proposal has been pushed by the Union urban development ministry. According to the proposal, the company will have a seed fund of Rs 100 crore. As reported by TOI earlier all four NCR constituent states - Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan - will contribute 50% of this seed money for NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) whereas Centre will put the rest. Sources said NCRTC will also reduce burden on Delhi Metro Rail Corporation as it would take care of creating facility for similar type of long-distance rail service across NCR.

Formation of the company on the lines of Delhi Metro is crucial to expedite the project work. Ministry sources said that within two months after the Cabinet decision the company would come into existence with a full time managing director and other officials.
