THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Kerala Mono Rail Corporation Limited and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation today signed the contract for the proposed monorail projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.Both projects would be completed in a time bound manner, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who is also the Chairman of KMRC, said.DMRC Chief Consultant E Sreedharan, Speaker G Karthikeyan, State PWD Minister V K Ibrahim Kunju were among those present on the occasion.The agreement will make DMRC responsible for the design, preparation of the bid document, short-listing and selection of contractors, supervision, and quality certification for the 22.2-km monorail in Thiruvananthapuram and the 14.2-km project in Kozhikode, estimated to cost Rs.5581 crore.A single agreement will be signed with DMRC for the projects as the general consultant and the executing agency are the same.DMRC will be the general consultant of the project. Instructions to take the initial steps have already been given. Tender procedures will be the preliminary process and offices of the monorail corporation will start functioning in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode soon,official sources said.

जनपद में हाथरस जंक्शन, हाथरस सिटी और हाथरस किला तीन रेलवे स्टेशन हैं। यात्रियों की सुविधाओं के लिए यहां पर पूछताछ काउंटर स्थित है। जानकारी देने के लिए माइक आदि सभी सुविधाएं मौजूद हैं, लेकिन इन काउंटरों से कर्मचारी नदारद रहते हैं। ऐसे में यात्रियों को भारी परेशानी हो रही है।
सबसे अधिक समस्या हाथरस जंक्शन पर है। यहां पर दो रुट हैं। एक अलीगढ़ दिल्ली जाने वाली आदि ट्रेनेँ नीचे से होकर जाती है, दूसरी कासगंज मथुरा आदि जाने वाली ट्रेनें ऊपर स्थित रेलवे स्टेशन से होकर जाती हैं। यात्री को ट्रेन की जानकारी नहीं होने पर इधर उधर भटकते रहते हैं। इन हालात में उनकी ट्रेन भी छूट जाती हैं।

यमुना नदी में जल स्तर बढ़ने के कारण उत्तर रेलवे ने बुधवार से पुराने पुल पर ट्रेनों की आवाजाही रोक दी है.
इससे 50 से अधिक ट्रेनों की सेवाएं प्रभावित हुईं है.
उत्तर रेलवे के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने कहा कि दिल्ली और शाहदरा के बीच यमुना पुल पर ट्रेनों की आवाजाही बुधवार दोपहर 12 बजे से अगले नोटिस तक स्थगित कर दी गयी है. हालांकि ईएमयू लोकल ट्रेनों को तय समयानुसार जाने दिया जा रहा है. शामली पैसेंजर ट्रेन और सहारनपुर-फर्रखनगर एक्सप्रेस को रद्द कर दिया गया है वहीं 15 ट्रेनों की सेवाएं कुछ समय के लिए रोक दी गयी हैं.
यमुना में पानी का स्तर खतरे के निशान के ऊपर पहुंचने के बाद उत्तर रेलवे ने कालका मेल, टाटा-अमृतसर-जम्मूतवी एक्सप्रेस और हरिद्वार-अजमेर एक्सप्रेस आदि समेत करीब 38 ट्रेनों के मार्ग बदल दिये हैं.

The 12985/12986 Jaipur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Jaipur Double    Decker Trains will be augmented  by attaching o­ne additional Executive chair car from 21.06.2013 to 18.09.2013 from Jaipur and Delhi.

12059/12060 Kota Hazrat Nizamuddin-Kota Jan Shatabdi Express Train will be augmented  by attaching o­ne additional AC Chair Car from 21.06.2013 to 01.07.2013 from Kota and Hazrat Nizamuddin.

The other features like timings, route, stoppages, composition etc. will remain as unchanged.

MANGALORE: In its efforts towards promoting green solutions and providing eco-friendly transport solutions, Konkan Railway has taken a major step towards bio-degradation of night soil (human mull) by installing bio-toilets on its route.

Konkan Railway is the first railway in the country to have Bio-Toilets on railway station platforms. The technology while allowing eco-friendly and faster way of human waste disposal, is also economic. As a beginning, the Bio-Toilets have been installed by Konkan Railway at Chiplun and Kankawali stations on its route.

According to Vaishali Patange, Chief Public Relations Officer of KR, the Bio-Toilet is based on Bio-Digester technology developed by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization). The technology is 100% maintenance-free and allows complete elimination of pathogens without requiring the night soil to be disposed through sewage line and septic tank. Since it does not require septic tanks and sewage lines, the Bio-Toilets can be installed much faster than a regular RCC toilet. While the latter requires a minimum of two months for construction, the Bio-Toilet can be installed in just a couple of days. The saving in cost factor is also 70% less compared to a regular RCC toilet. While a conventional toilet would cost about Rs 1 lakh, the Bio-Toilet can be erected in only about Rs 30,000.

The Bio-Digester is charged initially with anaerobic bacterial inoculums and no further charging is required if the Bio-Toilet is in regular use. The bio-degradation of the night soil leads to generation of bio-gas which can be utilized for cooking purpose. The odour-less water extracted after bio-degradation can be used for irrigation of gardens etc.

The Bio-Toilets are being widely utilized by the defence forces in its remote areas and an MOU has been signed by Indian Railways in 2010 with DRDO to develop a Bio-Toilet system for use in railway coaches for improving environment around railway infrastructure. Konkan Railway is planning to cover other stations also with the technology.

NEW DELHI: Services of over 50 trains were affected due to rising water level in the Yamuna, with Northern Railway suspending train movement on the old bridge from today.The movement of trains over the Yamuna bridge between Delhi and Shahadara has been suspended from 12 noon till further notice, a senior Northern Railway official said, adding that "however, EMU local trains are being allowed to run as per schedule."While Shamli passenger train and Saharanpur-Farukhnagar Express have been cancelled, services of 15 trains were short terminated due to the flood situation.Northern Railway has diverted about 38 trains, including Kalka Mail, Tata-Amritsar-Jammu Tawi Express and Haridwar- Ajmer Express, because of rising water level in the Yamuna.

Jammu: The delay in the start of train service to Katra is hampering the up-gradation work of the Jammu Railway station. Neither the platforms nor the trains can be increased at the Jammu Tawi railway station till the train service reaches Katra.Train to Katra has been delayed by more than a year and the authorities are still not sure whether the July, 2013 deadline for the project can be met.Expansion of the Jammu railway station from three platforms to five has been rejected by the higher authorities, for which a proposal was sanctioned two years ago and funds were also released by the Union Railway Ministry.The only reason for rejecting the proposal was “when the train will go to Katra, three platforms will be sufficient for the Jammu Tawi railway station," said RN Meena, Divisional Traffic Manager (DTM), Jammu.He asaid the deadline may be extended as “the work on the a tunnel at Udhampur may take some more time,” he said.Meena admitted that the Jammu Tawi railway station does not have any off season as the trains from Jammu are always full of passengers. But the railways cannot increase the number of trains in Jammu as it has only three washing lines, and to increase the number of trains needs more washing lines. The railways are waiting for the Katra station to be functional as it has two washing lines."It takes more than six hours to check the train which needs to be parked in the washing line, if we increase the number of trains, we will have to increase the washing lines as well,” he said.“We have two washing lines at the Katra railway station, so it will be easy for us to maintain the extra number of trains when the Katra station starts funtioning,” he added.

Regular toilets will be replaced by eco-friendly bio-toilets for disposing human waste at all stations of the Konkan Railway (KR), an official said here Wednesday.Two railway stations, Chiplun and Kankavali on the KR route, had earlier been selected for installing the country's first green toilets to bio-degrade night soil through technology developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)."The technology, while permitting eco-friendly and quicker disposal of human waste, is also economical. Passengers and locals at both Chiplun and Kankavali have appreciated the efforts of the railways," the official said.Encouraged by the public response, KR has now decided to set up such toilets at all the major stations on its network.The bio-toilet uses the DRDO's bio-digester technology, which is economical and can be implemented faster than the regular RCC (reinforced concrete cement) toilets."The technology is 100 percent maintenance-free and allows complete elimination of pathogens without requiring the night soil to be disposed through sewage line and septic tank," the official explained.Since the need for septic tanks and sewage lines has been eliminated in this technology, the bio-toilets can be installed and ready for use within just 48 hours, compared to two months for the conventional toilets.Even the cost savings on bio-toilets are high, as much as 70 percent, compared to regular toilets. While a regular toilet costs around Rs.100,000, a bio-toilet can be put up at just Rs.30,000.The bio-digester requires only an initial one-time charging with anaerobic bacterial inoculums if it is in regular use.The bio-degradation of the night soil leads to generation of bio-gas which can be utilised for cooking.The clean, odour-less water extracted after bio-degradation can be recycled for irrigation in gardens and other such places.The DRDO bio-toilets are being widely utilised by the defence forces in remote locations.The Indian Railways signed a memorandum of understanding with the DRDO in 2010 to develop a bio-toilet for use in railway coaches to improve the environment in and around the railway infrastructure.

INTRODUCTION OF SILAMBU (BI-WEEKLY) EXPRESS BETWEEN CHENNAI EGMORE AND MANAMADURAI

As announced by the Hon’ble Minister for Railways in the Railway Budget    2013-14, new bi-weekly trains will be inaugurated between Chennai Egmore and  Manamadurai.

            Thiru P. Chidambaram, Hon’ble Union Minister of Finance will flag off the inaugural special of MANAMADURAI – CHENNAI EGMORE SILAMBU EXPRESS at Manamadurai railway station at 20.15 hrs. o­n 22.6.2013, Central/State Ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries will participate.

            The inaugural special Manamadurai – Chennai Egmore will leave Manamadurai at 20.15 hrs. o­n 22.6.2013 and arrive Chennai Egmore the next day.

            The regular service of Train No.16181 will commence from 26.6.2013 ex. Chennai Egmore and from 27.6.2013 ex. Manamadurai.

            T.No.16181 Chennai Egmore – Manamadurai (Bi-weekly) Express will leave Chennai Egmore at 20.20 hrs. o­n Wednesdays/Saturdays and arrive Manamadurai at 07.45 hrs. the next day. Train No.16182 Manamadurai – Chennai Egmore (Bi-weekly) Express will leave Manamadurai at 20.15 hrs. o­n Thursdays/Sundays and arrive Chennai Egmore at 06.05 hrs. the next day.  The composition of the trains will be          1 AC 2-tier,  2 AC 3-tier, 6 Sleeper Class, 6 General Second Class and 2 luggage-cum-brake van coaches. The trains will stop at Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Melmaruvathur, Villupuram, Vridhachalam, Tiruchchirappalli, Pudukottai, Chettinad, Karaikkudi, Devekottai Road and Sivaganga. T.No.16182 will stop at Mambalam also.
