Kochi: The move by the Thiruvananthapuram division authorities to cancel about 40 posts of station masters may have stirred a hornet’s nest. But it is yet to implement a 2002 railway board order to post additional station masters to relive ‘stress.

The railway board order to all divisions to recruit additional station masters was taken after conducting a study which found ‘increasing stress’ due to work burden. The Southern railways was allotted 308 posts but not a single additional station master has been appointed in the Thiruvanantapuram division so far.

“When for years they failed to appoint personnel we resorted to protest and finally the order to appoint 55 ASMs was released in 2010. But the appointments were never made,” All-India Station Masters’ Association divisional secretary Udayaprasad said.

As a result the 371 station masters under the division are being denied leave even for urgent matters and many of them have to work for up to 16 hours at a stretch, going against the crux of the earlier study.

When contacted, a senior railway official said, there are not enough vacancies in the division. “There is not enough work to appoint 55 personnel; at the most 10 to 12 additional personnel are needed,” he said.

If all goes well, the work on the Piravom-Mulanthuruthy double line is expected to be completed this fiscal.Railway officials said that if no hindrances take place, the line can be expected to be commissioned by April next year. The work on this sector, which has been delayed for months, has picked up speed owing to administrative pressure. The officials with the construction department of the Railways said that they expect to complete the first phase of the project by December.  The first phase includes the completion of two railway lines from Piravom connecting  Mulanthuruthy. Also, the work on the Piravom station and the yard premises will be completed by December. In the second phase, the existing railway line will be raised by  six feet. “ A lot of technical procedures are involved in the lifting of the railway line. Also, it should be done in such a way that it does not affect the rail traffic. Once it is completed, we will focus on connecting the mid-section of the line between Piravom and Mulanthuruthy,” the official said. The `50- crore project covers 12-km stretch. Once the lines are ready, the signalling procedures will be carried out which may also take some time, officials added. Finding earth for the doubling process is also a problem, they said.

Currently, the work on the Piravom railway station platforms has begun.

Even as the work is progressing, passengers have raised concern that the Railways is creating a lot of hassles for the public owing to the work at Piravom railway station. They alleged that the trains in the section are getting delayed owing to the work.

In the wake of increasing Naxalite attacks on passenger trains, the Railway administration has started talks with the State Government to provide protection to passengers. About half-a-dozen trains of Howrah-Mumbai route are running through the Naxal-infested Dhur forest areas of Rajnandgaon during night hours.According to Railway sources, Ahmedabad-Howrah express, Geetanjali express, Wanganga express and Nagpur-Tata passenger of Mumbai-Howrah down route and Shivnath express, Geetanjali express, Korba Thiruvananthapuram express and Tata-Nagpur passenger of Howrah-Mumbai up route are passing through the Naxal-hit forest areas of Rajnandgaon.The railway administration is concerned about the security of passengers of these trains. Bilaspur, Raipur and Nagpur railway divisions come under the Bilaspur Zone and the railway track beyond Rajnandgaon comes under the Nagpur railway division. Because of which the Bilaspur zone is responsible for the security of passengers travelling in these trains, the sources said.

According to the sources, about three years ago Naxalites had targeted Gyaneshwari express at Midnapur area of West Bengal. They had blasted the railway track. Five bogies of the train had derailed in the blast in which more than 90 passengers lost their lives.

About two years ago the Naxalites had held captive the driver of a goods train near Rajnandgaon, but released him after a few hours. Recently, the Naxalites have targeted the inter-city express near Jamui railway station in Bihar. They had pumped bullets on the train in which two security guards and a passenger died.

Following the Naxalite attack on the Dhanbad-Patna inter-city express, the local rail administration has started exercise to provide security to passengers of trains passing through the Naxal-infested areas.

According to Security Commissioner of Raipur Railway Division DB Goud, RPF and GRP personnel were being deployed in some trains passing through Raipur Railway division during night hours. Discussions were on with the State Government about security in the trains passing through Naxal-infested areas, he added.

He said that secrecy was being maintained about security matters and because of which he could not reveal it.

PURULIA : To avoid any repetition of Jamui incident in which Maoists attacked Dhanbad-Patna Intercity Express, the Railway ministry has reportedly decided to tighten security even in the trains running through Junglemahal area during the day, besides intensifying security arrangements during night.  Sources said that the numbers of security forces have been increased in the trains under Adra division of South-Eastern Rail. The Divisional Railway Manager (Adra division) ~ Mr Arvind Kumar Mittal told The Statesman: “Security arrangement is going to be intensified.”
A top official of SE Railway, preferring anonymity, said that according to intelligence sources, a few Maoists had headed towards borders of West Bengal-Jharkhand-Orissa after being by security forces after the Chhattisgarh massacre.The railway administration does not want to take any risk with passengers'  safety, specially after the Jnaneswari Express tragedy in 2010.
A high-level meeting took place a couple of days ago at the office of DRM (Adra Division) to discuss the present situation. In the meeting ~ Additional SP  (Saraikela-Kharsoa), DSP (Headquarter, Bokaro),SDPO (Raghunathpur), Senior Security Commissioner of RPF(Adra Division), IRP (Tatanagar) and police officers of Bankura and Purulia discussed passenger safety after the two recent Maoist attacks.
After the Jnaneswari  incident, many trains running through the Junglemahal area at night were cancelled for around two years due lack of security.
Though those trains are now functional,  the intelligence sources have reportedly alerted the railway administration to take necessary precautions when the panchyat elections are just round the corner.
Sources said that Maoists can choose to attack the trains in the Junglemahal area  during this period.
Besides, the huge area of Bokaro and Saraikela-Kharsoa belongs to the LWE region where trains had already been attacked several times.
Though a section of railway sources said that the ministry is thinking of cancelling the night trains, Mittal truled out any such possibility .
He said that the use of pilot engine is not under consideration at present though security would be alerted for the safety of railway tracks in the division.
The superintendent of police, C Sudhakar said that the district police would extend its assistance.
However, besides increasing security forces in the train an officer would be in the charge of the ‘escort team’.

EIEL is an integrated infrastructure company with its presence across the country. The company had reported 26 per cent dip in consolidated net profit at Rs 109 crore for the year ended March 31, 2013. However, the consolidated net sales for last fiscal rose to Rs 4,684.8 crore, over Rs 4,365.9 crore in FY'12. The shares of the company closed at Rs 143.60 a piece, down 1.34 per cent from the previous close.

Rayagada: The agitating villagers continued their rail roko for the fourth day today demanding halt for trains and construction of a station at Baharduluki in Rayagada district resulting in disruption of railway traffic between Rayagada and Koraput.

The agitators have felled trees across the route between Rayagada and Koraput for last four days throwing the railway traffic out of gear. Several trains have either been cancelled or short terminated due to the agitation.

Most of the trains are being short terminated from Rayagada and Titilagarh leading to the inconvenience of the passengers, railway authorities said.

Though district officials had visited the spot and hold discussions with the agitators, nothing tangible has been achieved so far to resume traffic on this track.

नई दिल्ली. रेल मंत्रालय का सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र उपक्रम इंडियन रेलवे केटरिंग और टूरिज़म कोरपोरेशन (आईआरसीटीसी) यात्रियों को और अधिक सहूलियत उपलब्‍ध कराने के लिए बिना इंटरनेट की सुविधा वाले मोबाइल फोनों से टिकट आ‍रक्षित कराने की प्रायोगिक परियोजना 1 जुलाई से शुरू करेगा. इससे जिन लोगों के मोबाइल फोन में इंटरनेट नहीं है, वे आसानी से एसएमएस या आईवीआरएस अथवा यूएसएसडी के जरिए टिकट बुक करा सकेंगे. इस सुविधा से कागज़ की भी बचत होगी तथा यह पर्यावरण के अनुकूल भी रहेगा.

टिकट आरक्षण को और सुलभ कराने के लिए रेल मंत्रालय ने रेल बजट में मोबाइल फोनों के ज़रिए टिकट बुक कराने के संदर्भ में घोषणा की थी. इसका उद्देश्‍य आम आदमी को कहीं भी किसी भी समय और बिना किसी परेशानी के टिकट बुक कराने की सुविधा उपलब्‍ध कराना है.

एक जुलाई से चालू हो रही इस नई योजना के लिए एक अलग नंबर होगा जिस पर एसएमएस भेजा जा सकता है.

ऐसे मिलेगी सुविधा

►आरक्षण, भुगतान, रद्द कराने जैसे किसी भी चरण में इंटरनेट की कोई ज़रूरत नहीं होगी.


►व्‍यक्ति को भुगतान हेतु अपना मोबाइल नंबर आरसीटीसी के साथ-साथ अपने बैंक में भी पंजीकृत कराना होगा जहां एक पासवर्ड भी उपलब्‍ध होगा.


►यात्री को मोबाइल के एसएमएस बॉक्‍स में ट्रेन नंबर, गंतव्‍य स्‍थान, यात्रा की तिथि, श्रेणी तथा नाम, आयु और लिंग संबंधी विवरण टाइप करने होंगे.


►उसके बाद उस व्‍यक्ति को ट्रांजेक्‍शन आईडी मिलेगी और उसके बाद उसे एक और एसएमएस भेजकर भुगतान करना होगा. एसएमएस में PAY लिखकर उसके साथ ट्रांजेक्‍शन आईडी, बैंक से प्राप्‍त एमएमआईडी और पासवर्ड टाइप करके भेजना होगा.


►टिकट बुक होने पर आइआरसीटीसी की तरफ से एक मैसेज भेजा जाएगा जो कि यात्रा के दौरान मूल फोटो पहचान पत्र के साथ मान्‍य होगा.


►टिकटों को रद्द भी इसी तरह से इसके लिए उपलब्‍ध विकल्‍प के जरिए किया जा सकता है.


►यह योजना प्रायोगिक आधार पर होगी और एआरपी या तत्‍काल अथवा सामान्‍य टिकटों की बुकिंग के लिए सुबह 8 बजे से दोपहर 12 बजे तक उपलब्‍ध नहीं होगी.

नई दिल्ली. रेलवे के राजस्व में गत अप्रैल-मई के दौरान 12.73 प्रतिशत वृद्धि दर्ज की गई. रेलवे ने एक अप्रैल में 31 मई के दौरान पिछले साल की इस अवधि के दौरान प्राप्त राजस्व 19905.32 करोड़ की तुलना में 12.73 प्रतिशत की बढोत्तरी के साथ 22433.30 करोड़ रूपए का राजस्व अर्जित किया है.
इस दौरान माल ढुलाई से होने वाली आय में 10.52 प्रतिशत की बढोत्तरी हुई है. पिछले साल अप्रैल मई के दौरान माल भाड़े में 14169.34 करोड़ रूपए आय की तुलना में इस साल अवधि मे 15660.11 करोड़ रूपए की आय हुई है.
इस अवधि में यात्री किराए से आय 4940.04 करोड़ रूपए से बढकर 5803.43 करोड़ हो गई. अन्य मदो से इस वर्ष अप्रैल-मई मे 696.12 करोड़ रूपए की आय हुई.
