मुख्यालय रेलवे स्टेशन पर सोमवार को दिन के 12.30 बजे के आसपास शंटिंग के दौरान चौरीचौरा एक्सप्रेस के इंजन के पीछे आग लग गई। चालक ने सूझबूझ का परिचय देते हुए अग्निशमन यंत्र से आग पर काबू पा लिया। इसके साथ ही बड़ी दुर्घटना टल गई।
चौरीचौरा एक्सप्रेस दिन के 11.40 बजे प्लेटफार्म नंबर एक पर यात्रियों को लेकर पहुंची। गाड़ी खाली होने के बाद 12.15 बजे के आसपास प्लेटफार्म नंबर 2 से आगे वाशिंग पिट में धुलाई के लिए ले जाई जाने लगी। लोको पायलट शंटिंग खाली रेक को रेल लाइन नंबर 1 से होते हुए 2 की तरफ जा रहा था। बीच में ही इंजन और एसएलआर बोगी के पीछे इलेक्ट्रिक वायर से धुंआ उठने लगा। चालक को कुछ जलने का एहसास हुआ तो वह पीछे देखा। तब तक तार में आग लग चुकी थी। चालक ने आनन-फानन में आग पर काबू पाया और इसकी जानकारी स्टेशन पर संबंधित अधिकारियों को दी। मौके पर विभागीय कर्मी पहुंच गए। सूत्रों के अनुसार आग शार्ट शर्किट से लगी थी।

Balasore, July 2:Science enthusiasts got a scope to satiate their inquisitiveness about the world around them as they boarded the Science Express, an innovative exhibition train, which chugged here today.
The special train with 16 air-conditioned coaches will be stationed in Balasore for three days and visitors will have a chance to explore the country’s bio-diversity between 9am and 5pm.
The state’s science and technology department and the Union ministry of environment and forests have taken up the initiative of this mobile exhibition.
“This is the second edition of the Science Express. While the previous one had spread the word about pure sciences, molecular biology, microbiology and nano technology, this one is carrying information on the diversity across bio-geographical zones of India,” said a volunteer.
The exhibition targets a wide range of audience, including students, teachers and parents. One will get to understand issues related to climate change, energy conservation and wildlife.
A “kid zone” is the biggest draw, providing children a scope to make their own models in science, mathematics and environment.
“The wildlife display was interesting. Apart from the visuals, sound effects made the experience even better,” said Annapurna Panda, a Class IX student.
“This is a great opportunity to know about scientific notions and concepts. The train carries information for all age groups,” said district collector Ranjit Mohanty, who inaugurated the exhibition.
Additional director of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur Binay Das said: “Science has reached the common man through this train. Here, one can learn about many things.”
The special locomotive — an Indo-German joint venture — began its journey on April 9 after being flagged off from Safdarjung station in New Delhi to raise awareness among youths and rekindle interest in science.
The train arrived here from Kharagpur today.
From here it travels to Cuttack where the exhibition will be open to visitors from July 5 to 8.
It will also make pit stops in Balangir (July 9 to 11) and Rayagada (July 12 to 14) before leaving for Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Overall, the train will tour 62 places across the country and end its journey on October 28 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

नाशिकरोड रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या बाहेर अनेक दिवसांपासून मोठे खड्डे पडले असून या खड्डयांमुळे अनेकवेळा अपघात घडले आहेत . नाशिकरोड रेल्वे स्थानकात नेहमीच विविध भागातून पर्यटक येत असतात त्यांना रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या बाहेर पडताच या खड्डयातून प्रवास करावा लागत आहे . रेल्वेस्थानकाच्या बाजुला बसस्थानक असल्याने हा भाग वर्दळीचा आहे या स्थानकातून नाशिक , नाशिकरोड भागातील विविध ठिकाणी नागरिक प्रवास करीत असतात या स्थानकातूनच एसटीची प्रवाशी वाहतुक होत असते तेव्हा या खड्डयांचा त्रास बस प्रवाशांनाही करावा लागतो . या खड्डयांमुळे गाड्यांचे पार्ट निकामी झाल्याने अनेकवेळा वाहनांची दुरुस्ती करावी लागत असल्याचे टॅक्सीचालकांचे म्हणणे आहे . या खड्डयांमध्ये अनेक वेळा रिक्षा पडल्या आहेत . यामुळे याकडे लक्ष देण्याची मागणी नागरिकांनी केली आहे .

HYDERABAD: South Central Railway (SCR) has temporarily augmented trains with additional coaches to clear the extra rush and waitlisted passengers between July 1 and July 17.Kakinada Town- Bangalore- Kakinada Town Seshadri express will be improved with two AC-III tier coaches at Kakinada Town from July 1and at Bangalore from July 2.Hyderabad-Tiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad Sabari express will be augmented with one first AC and AC-II tier coaches at Hyderabad from July 1 and at Tiruvananthapuram from July 3. Tirupati-Adilabad-Tirupati Krishna express will be augmented with one chair car and one sleeper class coach at Tirupati from July 1 and at Adilabad from July 2.Kacheguda-Chittoor-Kacheguda Venkatadri express will be augmented with one AC-II tier coach from July 1 in both directions. Secunderabad-Rajkot-Secunderabad express will be augmented with one AC-III tier coach at Rajkot from July 2 and at Secunderabad from July 4. Secunderabad- Sai Nagar Shirdi -Secunderabad express will be augmented with one AC-III tier coach on July 5 and 12 at Secunderabad and on July 6 and 12 at Sai Nagar Shirdi. The augmented additional coaches have already been fed into the computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) making available 18846 additional berths.

Bengaluru: In an effort to accelerate the execution of some long-pending railway projects ahead of next year’s polls to Lok Sabha, the Union and state governments agreed to fork out Rs 300 crores each on Monday. Speaking to media persons after chairing a meeting to review the progress of railway projects in Karnataka, railways minister M Mallikarjun Kharge said “the allocation in this year’s budget is Rs 900 crore, and if the budgetary provision for electrification and doubling of tracks is included it will go upto Rs 1200 crore.Now, both the Centre and state government have agreed to spend an additional Rs 300 crore each to complete some of the projects which could possibly be completed within 10 months.

We have decided to take up these projects on a war-footing.” Kharge said though almost all pending railway projects were discussed at the meeting, the stake holders decided to release funds to some of them so that they would be ready in eight to ten months.

Besides, he also called some officers in-charge of these projects and made them commit to the deadline in the presence of media persons.

The projects which would be taken up on priority include include Kadur-Chikmagalur (deadline November 2013), Kolar-Chikballapur (deadline December 2013), Gadwar-Raichur (deadline August 15), and Kotagi-Gulbarga (December 15). Besides, land disputes would be resolved through Lok Adalat and designated land acquired as early as possible.

Doubling of tracks would be taken up if state government agrees to acquire land along Bengaluru-Mysore and Bengaluru-Mangalore tracks. The minister ruled out a hike in train fares following an increase in price of diesel. "There is no such proposal, and fares will not be raised,” he added.

Meanwhile, a senior official of the Railway Board official said the capacity of the server of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) would be incr­eased to overcome problems in securing tickedts over the internet.

On behalf of the state government, public works minister H C Mahad­evappa, chief secretary S V Ranganath, principal secretaries of finance, revenue, infrastructure and urban development, attended the meeting.

UDHAGAMANDALAM: The southern railway general manager RakeshMisra on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of introducing one more service on Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR), a long pending demand by the locals.
"With one track on the NMR, extra service will be impossible. After five in the evening, it is difficult to notice movements of wildlife on the track," said Misra.

The GM was here on an inspection tour of track and stations on the route from Mettupalayam to Ooty. In a specially arranged train which was stopped at all the stations, including Hillgrove, Kattery and Coonoor, the GM personally led the inspection at all points. "It is a routine inspection in the NMR section," Misra said. Apart from higher officials from the southern railway, a special guest from European Commission also accompanied the team during the inspection.

"Mr Bird, a railway researcher from Brazil, accompanied me on the trip. He is interested in steam loco production unit and it is a part of his research," said Misra. Mr Bird was amazed to learn that the southern railway is the only railway in Asia which manufactures steam engines that too only for the NMR section, Misra added.

Regarding the recent brake failure of a loco near Kallar station, Misra said mechanical errors are beyond human control. However, we are focusing more on the safety measures in the section".

On June 15, a steam loco pulling goods wagons from Coonoor to Mettupalayam developed a brake failure and could not stop at Kallar station. When asked why Kallar station doesn't have 'catch-siding'-a safety measure system meant for ghat section railways- Misra said Kallar was located at the tail portion of the ghat section. Even otherwise, NMR does not require 'catch-siding' as the gliding was not very steep, he said.

In the first quarter of the current fiscal, Bhubaneswar-headquartered East Coast Railway (ECoR) accounted for 49 per cent of the total incremental traffic of the Indian Railways. ECoR thus emerges as the fastest-growing freight-loading zonal railway.

During the period, ECoR handled 37 million tonnes (mt) of originating freight traffic, up from 31.35 mt in the same period last year, marking an incremental traffic of 5.65 mt.

GROWTH IN JUNE

For the Railways as a whole, the freight traffic was 256.31 mt (244.81 mt), or an incremental traffic of 11.5 mt. ECoR posted more than 18 per cent growth against the national average of 4.7 per cent. In June alone, ECoR’s growth was 22 per cent at 12.28 mt (10.04 mt).

Indra Ghosh, General Manager, ECoR, would attribute this to system improvements achieved through a slew of measures entailing strict monitoring and improvement in working.

Ghosh, however, conceded that in terms of actual volume, Bilaspur-headquartered South East Central Railway (SECR) topped among the zonal railways.

TO YIELD RESULTS

During the period under review, SECR handled 37.18 mt (32.37 mt), posting a growth of 2.23 per cent. “In July, the performance should be much better as the steps recently initiated will start yielding results,” he observed. Ghosh is also the General Manager of SECR as an additional charge.

During the period, ECoR’s daily average handling of wagons was 6,152, which was more than 300 wagons handled by SECR, he pointed out. In other words, SECR’s wagon utilisation is better, as it handled more cargo with fewer wagons.

यात्रियों की सुविधा के लिए रेलवे ने नई दिल्ली से पटना के बीच चलने वाली एसी समर स्पेशल को एक पखवाड़े और चलाने का फैसला किया है। 04040 नंबर की स्पेशल ट्रेन नई दिल्ली से दो, तीन, पांच, छह, आठ, नौ, 11, 12, 14 व 15 जुलाई को रवाना होगी। जबकि 04039 नंबर की स्पेशल ट्रेन तीन, चार, छह, सात, नौ, 10,12, 13, 15 व 16 तारीख को पटना से चलेगी।

Activists of the Uttariya Railway Mazdoor Union (URMU) met the Station Superintendent and discussed the issue of duty roster with him.Leaders of the URMU alleged that the stationmasters did not have any authority to make duty roster of employees.The competent authority for making the roster was the Divisional Personnel Officer.ML Prasher, assistant divisional secretary of the Uttariya Railway Mazdoor Union , said carmen were surplus at the Railway Station, Ludhiana, so officials take there services when required.Satnam Singh, a carman, had been deputed at the booking office for the past two years.

Now, the Station Superintendent deputed a train disperse peon at the booking office.

“We have the objection that why the train disperse peon has deputed at a place where surplus carmen are serving well. We met the Stationmaster and he agreed with our point,” Satnam Singh added.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides (BS&G) of South Western Railway (SWR) has started collecting flood relief materials from the railway staff in Hubli, Bangalore and Mysore, to help the people stranded in Uttarakhand.

A press release from the SWR said the flood relief materials include rice, atta, dhal, sugar, tea powder, biscuits, toothpastes, soaps, utensils, blankets and towels.

The flood relief material will be sent by a parcel van that will be attached to train No. 06948 Hubli-Miraj Link Express, that is scheduled to leave Hubli at 5 pm on July 4

This van will go up to Madgoan, from where it will be attached to train No.12287 Kochuveli-Dehradun Express and will be handed over to the district magistrate and the person in charge of flood materials at Dehradun by the rovers team.

Special trains
The South Eastern Railway has decided to continue running an express special train between  Hatia-Yesvantpur-Hatia (train Nos. 08635/08636). The train will be run from Hatia end on July 4 and from Yesvantpur end on July 6 ( one special only in each direction), to clear the extra rush.

Train No. 08635 will depart from the Hatia station at 9.40 am on Thursday and arrive at Yesvantpur at 10 pm the next day.
