Passengers today halted two trains near Kesri village in protest against the withdrawal of two passenger trains from the Saharanpur-Ambala route.The railway authorities had recently decided to scrap two passenger trains between Ambala and Saharanpur. These trains were the lifeline of a large number of people residing between these two stations. After scraping of these two trains, only one passenger train was for commuting between Ambala and Saharanpur. This led to an unprecedented increase in the rush on this train thereby causing considerable inconvenience to the passengers. The protesters also included schoolchildren who used to travel in these trains to reach their schools. The protesters halted a passenger and a goods train for more than half an hour. Later, some railway officials reached there and pacified the protesters by giving an assurance that their plea would be taken up with officials.

The Southern Railways has cancelled and diverted a few trains from July 5 – 10 in connection with engineering works related to the commissioning of double line section between Valadi- Kallakkudi Palanganatham.

The railways has fully cancelled the train numbers 56806 / 56805 Tiruchi – Cuddalore Port Junction – Tiruchi Passengers and train numbers 56833 / 56834 Cuddalore Port Junction - Vriddhachalam – Cuddalore Port Junction Passengers from July 5 – 10. The train No. 76800 Tiruchi – Lalgudi Passenger will be cancelled on July 6 alone.

The train numbers 56706 / 56705 Madurai – Villupuram – Madurai Passengers have been partially cancelled between Villupuram and Tiruchi on July 10.

Three trains: Madurai - Chennai Vaigai Express; Chennai – Guruvayur Express and Guruvayur – Chennai Express have been diverted on the main line on July 10. These trains will halt at Thanjavur and Mayiladuthurai junctions in the diverted route.

The train No. 12636 Madurai – Chennai Vaigai Express departing from Madurai at 6.50 a.m. will leave Tiruchi at 9 a.m., Thanjavur at 10.10 a.m. and Mayiladuthurai at 11.07 a.m. and will reach Chennai at 4.15 p.m. The train No.16127 Chennai Egmore – Guruvayur Express leaving Chennai Egmore at 7.40 a.m. will leave Mayiladuthurai at 1.12 p.m., Thanjavur at 2.35 p.m. and Tiruchi at 3.40 p.m.

The train No. 16128 Guruvayur – Chennai Egmore Express leaving Guruvayur at 8.50 p.m. on July 9 and Tiruchi at 2.10 p.m. on July 10, Thanjavur at 3.35 p.m.; Mayiladuthurai at 4.47 p.m. will reach Egmore at 10.10 p.m.

The Railways has made alternative transport arrangements for the passengers with confirmed tickets for the above three trains.

It will operate special buses between Vriddhachalam and Villupuram, and Ariyalur and Thanjavur in both the directions on July 10, according to an official press release of the Tiruchi Railway Division issued here on Wednesday.

रेलवे ने रुड़की को एक और ट्रेन की सौगात दी है जो सप्ताह में एक दिन चलेगी। गुरुवार को चलने वाली यह ट्रेन (नंबर 22917) बांद्रा से हरिद्वार तक चलेगी। इस ट्रेन के चलने से केंद्रीय संस्थानों से जुड़े लोगों को काफी राहत मिलेगी।
रेलवे ने एक जुलाई से जारी नई योजनाओं के तहत कई रेलवे स्टेशनों को नई सौगात दी है। इसके तहत रेलवे ने रुड़की को भी चार ट्रेन दी हैं, जिससे रुड़की व आसपास के क्षेत्रों में रह रहे लोगों को यात्रा का लाभ मिलेगा। रेलवे की इस नई शुरुआत से कानपुर,अमृतसर, लालकुंआ, बांद्रा, पाटलीपुत्र, चंडीगढ़ आदि जगहों की यात्रा करने में यात्रियों को और आसानी हो जाएगी। रेलवे ने 18514 अमृतसर कानपुर एक्सप्रेस दी है। अमृतसर से कानपुर के लिए चलने वाली यह साप्ताहिक ट्रेन गुरुवार को 19:02 मिनट पर रुड़की पहुंचेगी। तथा 19:04 मिनट पर यहां से वाया कासगंज होते हुए कानपुर जाएगी। वापसी में ट्रेन का रुड़की में स्टापेज नहीं दिया गया है। बुधवार को सप्ताहिक ट्रेन नंबर 14606 अमृतसर लालकुंआ एक्सप्रेस चलेगी, जो 14:07 मिनट पर रुड़की पहुंचेगी। ट्रेन यहां से 14:15 मिनट पर लालकुंआ के लिए रवाना हो जाएगी। वापसी में यह ट्रेन 14605 बनकर आएगी। गुरुवार को यह ट्रेन 5:27 मिनट पर रुड़की पहुंचेगी तथा 5:30 मिनट पर यहां से अमृतसर के लिए रवाना हो जाएगी। रेलवे सप्ताह में दो दिन पाटलीपुत्र से चंडीगढ़ के लिए ट्रेन चलाएगी। ट्रेन नंबर 13255 पाटलीपुत्र चंडीगढ़ एक्सप्रेस सोमवार व गुरुवार को 14:10 मिनट पर रुड़की पहुंचेगी तथा दो मिनट बाद यहां से चंडीगढ़ के लिए रवाना हो जाएगी। वापसी में यह ट्रेन नंबर 13256 बनकर मंगलवार व शुक्रवार को 1:10 मिनट पर रुड़की पहुंचेगी व तीन मिनट बाद यहां से पाटलीपुत्र के लिए रवाना हो जाएगी। इन तीन ट्रेनों के अलावा रेलवे ने रुड़की रेलवे स्टेशन को एक और साप्ताहिक ट्रेन की सौगात दी है। ट्रेन नंबर 22917 बांद्रा हरिद्वार एक्सप्रेस गुरुवार को 14:48 मिनट पर रुड़की पहुंचेगी व दो मिनट बाद यहां से हरिद्वार के लिए रवाना हो जाएगी।वापसी में यह ट्रेन 22918 बनकर उसी दिन 19:40 मिनट पर रुड़की पहुंचेगी व दो मिनट बाद यहां से बांद्रा के लिए रवाना हो जाएगी।

New Delhi: The BJP on Wednesday claimed that the CBI move to give a “clean chit” to former Railway Minister PK Bansal in the cash-for-transfer scam by not naming him in the charge sheet is an attempt to protect the Prime Minister as the links would go all the way to the top, including the PMO.“CBI has given a clean chit to former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. New facts about all that is behind this are coming to light which should be made public. This clean chit establishes that CBI has now become a tool in the hands of the government. CBI is trying to protect the PMO and the PM,” BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri told reporters.The party alleged that like in the case of the coal allocation scam, ‘railgate’ also goes up to the PMO.“The clean chit to Bansal is an attempt to keep under wraps the role of the PMO in the appointment of the Railway Board member (Mahesh Kumar),” Shastri said.

He insisted that since the Railway Board member’s post is equivalent to that of a Joint Secretary, the nod for his appointment has to come from the DoPT which falls under the Prime Minister’s Office. Bansal has not been named in the charge sheet as this would lead the trail to the PMO, he said.

Hence, the transfer of Mahesh Kumar- for which the alleged bribe of Rs 1 crore was being paid- was done with the knowledge of the PMO.

Shastri sought to know if Bansal had opened the post of Railway Board member up for bidding. “The CBI report says there are records of 80 hours of phone conversations between Mahesh Kumar and Bansal’s nephew (Vijay Singla). These calls were made from the Railway Minister’s office and his residence,” he said.

Singla and Kumar have been named in the CBI charge sheet. “Either the calls were made in the presence of the Railway Minister (by Singla) or at his behest. The minister’s nephew was caught with Rs 90 lakh,” Shastri said.

BJP said keeping Bansal out of the CBI charge sheet appears to be an exercise to protect the Prime Minister and the PMO. The party compared this to coalgate and maintained that just as the then Union minister Ashwani Kumar had made changes in the CBI status report on the scam to protect the Prime Minister, Bansal’s name was not mentioned in the charge sheet for a similar motive.

The main Opposition said the files pertaining to the appointment of a new member of the Railway Board were first cleared by Bansal then sent to the PMO for its approval as the official is equivalent to a Joint Secretary.

“We demand that CBI name Pawan Bansal as an accused in the charge sheet. Only then the real truth will come out. This is a very serious matter. This case strengthens BJP’s demand that the Prime Minister should resign,” Shastri said.

The task of filling up vacancies for top railway posts is getting more curious, with the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) having “stayed” the railways proposal to issue orders for filling up the post of Member (Traffic).In a petition filed by senior officer NC Sinha, the CAT Bangalore branch awarded an “interim stay” on Wednesday. The CAT order has evidently upset the railways plans to appoint Devi Prasad Pandey as Member (Traffic), since Sinha has now emerged as a candidate for the post.The Railways will now need to get the CAT order vacated before issuing orders to fill up the post. With CBI naming suspended Railway board member Mahesh Kumar as an accused in the cash-for postings scam on Tuesday, process of filling up the vacancy to the post of Member (Staff) also needs to be initiated. Kumar will have to be adjusted against a “super numerary” (specially created post) for enabling his salary to be charged against the post, while the process of finding a full-time member (staff) can begin”, a senior official said.

Four of the seven posts in the Railway Board are vacant, with three of these on additional charge at present.

Member(mechanical) Arunendra Kumar assumed additional charge as Chairman Railway Board (CRB) on Monday, but hectic lobbying persists for top posts.

Railway guidelines are that an officer having one year experience as an open line general manager, with two years of residual service can assume charge as the CRB. Going by these criteria, RS Virdhi (general manager, Northeast Frontier Railway) remains the front-runner for the top job.

But if the norms for promotion as the CRB are revised, Kulbhushan (member, electrical) stands a chance – being the senior-most among the existing members at present.

In the allocation of additional duties on Monday, Kulbhushan was overlooked for CRB’s job ostensibly because of being under the scanner in Central Bureau of Investigation’s Preliminary Enquiry – even as he has been handed additional charge as Member (Traffic).

“If the CBI case did not come in his way of assuming additional charge as member (traffic), how could it have become an impediment for elevating him as the additional CRB”, asked an official.

अब चलती ट्रेन में आग लगाने से यात्रियों को कोई नुकसान नहीं होगा. आग लगते ही ट्रेन खुद रुक जायेगी. जी हां, रेलवे ट्रेनों मेंआग की घटना को रोकने के लिए नयी तकनीक का इस्तेमाल करने जा रही है. यह ऐसी तकनीक है, जो आग की घटना के तुरंत बाद यात्रियों को आगाह कर देगी. यही नहीं घटना के तुरंत बाद चलती ट्रेन में ब्रेक लग जायेगी. इसके सफल परीक्षण के बाद पहले चरण में देश की 20 ट्रेनों में इसका इस्तेमाल होगा. एक ट्रेन में इसे लगाने पर करीब 50 लाख रुपये खर्च आने की संभावना है.
धुआं उठते ही बजेगा अलार्म
चलती ट्रेन या प्लेटफॉर्म पर खड़ी किसी ट्रेन से धुआं निकलने का आभास होने पर बोगी में लगे उपकरण उसे फौरन रीड कर लेंगे. धुआं निकलते ही अलार्म बजने लगेगा और यात्री के साथ रेलकर्मी भी सतर्क हो जायेंगे. अगर ट्रेन चल रही है, तो वैसी स्थिति में अलार्म बजने के बाद गाड़ी रुक जायेगी.
ऐसे काम करेगा सिस्टम
ट्रेनों में लगनेवाली नयी तकनीक इंटेलीजेंट सिस्टम और वेरी अर्लीस्मोक डिटेक्शन एंड अलार्म सिस्टम है. यह सिस्टम डिब्बों से लेकर टायलेट में लगाए गये सेंसर के जरिए हवा में गरमी और धुएं के नमूने जुटाएगा, जिसका मूल्यांकन अलग यूनिट में होता रहेगा. हवा में धुएं और तापमान में बढ़ोतरी होने पर ट्रेनों में अलार्म बज जायेगा. इस सिस्टम से मिले सिगनल के आधार पर गाड़ी ऑटोमेटिक रुक जायेगी.

LUCKNOW: To prevent accidental fires on trains from turning catastrophic, RDSO has come up with detailed specifications on stain-proof and fire-retardant linen. Such linen will not catch fire easily and reduce the damage in onboard fire accidents.Lucknow division of Northern Railway will start the trial of the stain-proof and fire-retardant linen onboard Gomti Express. Since the train has one second AC coach, it will be easier for Railways to provide the new linen in limited numbers for the trial. "We have not selected trains like Lucknow Mail for trial because that would have required us to provide the material in one complete train," said sources.The tenders for providing new linen will open on July 18 and Railways will put it to trial after that.Though the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) has given the specifications, trial will put the specifications to test. It will also find out other things like durability and cost of the material. If the trial is successful, Railways will distribute the fire-retardant linen instead of the usual cotton fabric to passengers in trains.

Northern Railway had received the tentative specification on fire-retardant linen from RDSO in April 2010, but now it has got the detailed specifications.

The fire-retardant linen could be the first of its kind in Indian Railways. It will be manufactured with an inherent permanent flame retardant fibre whose flame retardant quality does not diminish with prolonged use or repeated washing.

At the same time, linen should be preferable, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and soothing to skin.

If a train coach catches fire, there is not much that Railways can do to control it. Railways, so far, tries to prevent such accidents by using fire-retardant material in floorings, berth covers and ceiling of the coaches. But now there is an emphasis on introducing onboard technologies that can stub out the flames and prevent fire accidents.

Fire-retardant linen is one such gear.

A day after seizing four trucks carrying 102 bags full of cash, diamond and jewellery from the Central railway station here, the Income Tax department made it clear that no terror angle had emerged yet and thus the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was no more involved in the probe.The department on Wednesday completed counting the cash. “We have completed the counting of cash and the total amount has come up to Rs. 10 crore. We have not found any fake currency,” said Swatantra Kumar, Director General (Investigation) I-T.He added that the department would take action under relevant I-T Acts and had not ruled out the possibility of hawala racket.Mr. Kumar made it clear that only 40 per cent of the seized jewellery and diamonds had been evaluated and the entire process would take two more days. Jewellery and cash would be returned to those who brought official papers, the department added.

NO ARRESTS YET

No one has been detained so far in the case.

In a joint operation carried out by the NIA and the I-T department late on Monday night, four trucks carrying 102 bags were seized at the Central railway station. The bags were being sent to Gujarat through Gujarat Mail. As per a tip-off received by the NIA, the money was meant for funding terror activities. The NIA roped in the I-T department since large quantities of cash were recovered.
