Rural Development Ministry is learnt to have agreed to notify some works connected with the railways like afforestation and construction of approach road for crossings under its ambitious rural job scheme MNREGA.

Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh is understood to have agreed to bring works such as construction of embankments, developing waterways, constructing pathways, clearing vegetational growth, afforestation and construction of approach roads for railway crossings under MNREGA.

Ramesh today discussed the issue of convergence of schemes with Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge.

Kharge had requested Ramesh to resolve the stiff conditions that prevents application of the rural job scheme in executing railway infrastructure development projects.

Ramesh has already made it clear that no mechanical work like maintenance of railway track could be included in the job scheme.

During his tenure as Railway Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal had said deployment of rural population in schemes under MNREGA was quite similar to the requirements of railways for such specified works.

The Railway Ministry had sought cooperation of the Rural Development Ministry on a number of railway projects that require unskilled labour force.

The Ministry had suggested that these works can be undertaken in remote rural areas under MNREGA.

Indian Railways, with a huge network spread across the country, traverses through thousands of kilometres of rural and backward areas.

Rural Development Ministry officials had examined Railways' proposal in detail.

देवस्थान विभाग के अनुसार तीर्थयात्रा कार्यक्रम में परिवर्तन किया गया है। ज्ञात रहे कि उदयपुर से रामेश्वरम के लिए ट्रेन 11 अगस्त को जानी थी, जबकि भरतपुर से द्वारिका के लिए गाड़ी 12 अगस्त को जाने वाली थी। आवेदकों की वरीयता क्रम तय करने के लिए बुधवार को यहां संभागीय आयुक्त कार्यालय में लॉटरी निकाली जाएगी।

देवस्थान विभाग की सहायक आयुक्त डॉ. प्रियंका भट्ट ने बताया कि संभागीय आयुक्त की अध्यक्षता वाली कमेटी के सभी सदस्यों की मौजूदगी में दोपहर 12 बजे लॉटरी निकाली जाएगी। उल्लेखनीय है कि उदयपुर से रामेश्वरम और सम्मेद शिखर के लिए ट्रेनें निकलेंगी, जिनके लिए सबसे अधिक आवेदन विभाग को मिले हैं।

प्रमुख शासन सचिव के साथ होगी वीसी

देवस्थान विभाग के स्थानीय अधिकारी बुधवार को देवस्थान विभाग के प्रमुख शासन सचिव से वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग (वीसी) के जरिए चर्चा करेंगे। एजेंडा तीर्थयात्रियों को कार्यक्रम की जानकारी देना, यात्रा में चिकित्सा अधिकारियों की नियुक्ति, योजना की क्रियान्विति में प्रशासन, देवस्थान, आईआरटीसी के मध्य समन्वय, संभागीय मुख्यालय और बोर्डिंग रेलवे स्टेशन पर तीर्थ यात्रियों के लिए काउंटर लगवाने आदि विषयों पर चर्चा की जाएगी।

NEW DELHI: The Centre today earmarked Rs 600 crore for development of railway network in the north east and decided to set up an empowered group to ensure speedy upgradation of overall infrastructure in the region.

At a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to review infrastructure situation in the region, it was decided to expedite work on many hydro-projects which are held up due to various reasons and build strong transmission capacities on priority basis.

The Prime Minister directed the Planning Commission to call a meeting of all the Chief Ministers of the north eastern states to improve inter-state coordination for speedy completion of the infrastructure projects.

Accessibility problems emerged as a major issue at the meeting attended by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Railways Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia besides Chief Ministers of the north eastern states.

The review covered the railway, road, airport, power, and telecom projects in the region.

"The focus was on speeding up implementation of ongoing projects and also fill-in gaps to ensure full physical and electronic connectivity to and in the north eastern region," a PMO statement said.

"At the meeting, it was agreed that the Finance Ministry will provide an additional Rs 400 crore to complete three critical rail projects before March 2014," it said.

These include the Harmati-Naharlagun project to provide the first rail connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh and Dudhnoi- Mehdipathar to connect Meghalaya. Another project is the Rangapura-North Lakhimpur gauge conversion.

The Ministry of Railways committed that the first trial runs will begin on these lines in January 2014.

The Finance Ministry will also provide upto Rs 200 crore for two more projects -- the Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion and the Bogibeel bridge.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the purpose of jointly promoting tourism and facilitating tourists in the capital city.The MoU was signed at Metro Bhawan by DMRC’s Director (Operations), Sh. Sharat Sharma and DTTDC’s MD & CEO Shri G G Saxena in the presence of DMRC’s Managing Director, Sh. Mangu Singh and a host of other dignitaries.As per the MoU, DMRC and DTTDC will help and facilitate each other for tourist friendly information and promotion of tourism in the city through their services. As a part of this MoU, DMRC will undertake following initiatives:

1. DMRC will identify spaces/locations at 5 Metro Stations for opening up DTTDC information counters. Dwarka Metro Station has been identified as the station to start with the project.2. DMRC will publicize the products and projects of DTTDC through banners / standees. For this, DMRC will identify spaces / locations at prominent metro stations including Metro Museum at Patel Chowk Metro Station, based on operational feasibility. Display of publicity material on the advertisement panels inside the Metro Trains will be permitted subject to availability.

3. In order to help the people to know the latest information regarding both the corporations, DMRC will arrange to link its website www.delhimetrorail.com with that of DTTDC.

4. With a view to prevent the tourists from being overcharged by the auto drivers and as an added passenger convenience, the concept of `rent a bicycle’ will be explored for implementation at Saket Metro Station. People visiting major tourist attractions i.e. Qutub Minar, Garden of Five Senses (GFS) and Qutub Complex which are near to Saket Metro Station, will be benefitted. People can rent a bicycle at nominal rate with ID to visit these places and could also make use of the cycle track developed in GFS.

5. DMRC will arrange to make announcement in the Metro Trains, informing the commuters about the important events being organized by DTTDC in Delhi such as Dilli Ke Pakwan, Kite Festival, Mango Festival, Garden Festival, Itra Festival etc.

6. DMRC will facilitate tourists on Saturday and Sundays by providing seats etc. DTTDC may operate their transport services to help in this regard.

Similarly, DTTDC will assist DMRC by working on following initiatives: 1. DTTDC will arrange to provide safekeeping and distribution of DMRC’s publicity materials, pamphlets, route maps, etc. from its information counters for the information of tourists.

2. In order to help the people to know the latest information regarding both the corporations, DTTDC will arrange to link its website www.delhitourism.gov.in with that of DMRC.

3. To facilitate metro commuters, DTTDC will sell the Delhi Metro Tourist Smart Cards of One & Three days validity as well as Delhi Metro Travel Smart Cards through its outlets. DTTDC shall provide space at its sites to DMRC to set up stalls/kiosks during fairs/festivals organized by DTTDC such as Mango Festival, Garden Festival, Kite Festival, Itra Festival etc.

4. DTTDC participates in various National Events where the officials distribute literature on Delhi and publicize various package tours operated by the Tourism Division. DTTDC shall arrange for participation by DMRC in these national events for publicizing DMRC projects and its products.

Delhi Metro at present runs its services on seven Lines spanning around 190 kilometers. All prominent tourist attractions of Delhi like Qutab Minar, Jama Masjid, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Temple, fall on its different routes. National and international tourists can explore the city’s tourist destinations in a hassle free manner by using Metro services through Tourist Smart Card of one Day (Rs. 100/) and three days (Rs. 250/- ) validity, in which one can make unlimited rides for the given day(s).

For the convenience of passengers especially devotees and to cater additional rush on Sunavesha Festival tomorrow at Puri, East Coast Railway has decided to run special trains from different places excluding the existing trains coming to the holy town. Apart from this, some trains will be rescheduled, diverted and extended till Puri for the "Sunavesha" festival. The trinity - Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra - wear golden attires locally called "Suna Vesha" on the last day of Rath Jatra, the annual car festival of Lord Jagannath. According to ECoR sources, additional ticket counters, enquiry Counters and information centers, provision of additional temporary toilets/ bathing facilities, a temporary Mela shed covering an area of 1800 sqm, Catering and Drinking Water facilities, Sanitation arrangements, Medical Assistance, lighting arrangements have been made at different places in station areas, LC Gate Managements.

Safety and security have been provided for the convenience of the passengers, they said, adding mobilisation manpower has also been arranged for smooth running of train services.

A record 12,384 students of 120 schools visited the Science Express on Wednesday and the general visitors were 14,017.A total of 42 children, including 22 girls, studying in 4{+t}{+h}and 5{+t}{+h}classes at the Fishery Primary School at Vasavanipalem, Lawson’s Bay Colony, visited the Science Express Biodiversity exhibition at the Railway Station here on Wednesday.The students were thrilled on going through the exhibits on display at the expo. They spent about two hours going through all the coaches as the volunteers explained to them about the various aspects of the models and charts on display and the need to conserve biodiversity.The teachers also explained to their students quoting from the relevant chapters in their EVS (Environmental Science) subject. Some of the students were keen on telling what they had seen at the expo to the students of lower classes.The students had a gala time in the 12th coach where they answered questions and played some puzzles. Some of them won prizes for their correct answers.

The exhibition will conclude on Thursday evening.

Guwahati; July 17:The NF Railway today said the persons who was killed and those injured yesterday by a goods train at Gandhibasti violated rules by not getting down from the train at Guwahati station.
NFR public relation officer Nripen Bhattacharjya said according to rules, passengers should get down from the train only on the platform. “Yesterday, the passengers were at fault,” he said.
GMCH superintendent Ra-men Talukdar said the four injured were discharged to-day.
Bhattacharjya said trains slow down and stop for some time in areas like Fancy Bazar, Gandhibasti and Chandmari before entering the station.
One person was killed and four others were injured when a goods train hit them at Gandhibasti while they were trying to cross the tracks last evening. They were coming from Nagaon to Guwahati in a passenger train. They got down at the level crossing when the train had slowed down. When they tried to cross the tracks, a goods train, which was coming from the opposite direction, hit them.
